I have two I am interested in getting. Milk Street season 1 and 2 combo but am waiting till it comes out in paperback. Almost ruined my wrist looking at season 1, hardcover, from the library.
Jamie Oliver has a 5 ingredient PBS cooking show...loved the first episode; second was so-so. If it turns out to be some great ideas, I'd be interested in that one too.
Off to look for SK spinach quiche.

I would like to spend some time with the new book by the chef/owner of Zahav called Israeli Soul and Rene Rezepi's tome on fermenting. I just finished paring my cookbook collection down to one small shelf of books, so I plan to see if I can get these from the library.

I looked through Everyday Dorie: The Way I Cook by Dorie Greenspan over the weekend., There are lots of great sounding recipes, beautiful pictures, and I've always been a fan of her writing/style. Just keep me away from the dessert section -- the temptation might be too great.
I just added to my library request list. My cookbook loving friend raved about it.

.epub is the format that can be read on Apple devices through iBooks. .emobi is an open source digital format that can be read on Kindle Of course one can download Kindle on your iPhone, iMAC or iPad and read Kindle books directly.
I just discovered an App called Libby which is now used by a lot of public library systems. It really simplifies borrowing digital and audio books from the public library.
I have a very large library of digital food porn if anyone is interested in checking out a specific cookbook or type of cuisine :-).

Blazedog -- I love getting books for my Kindle from the library. No clutter and its automatically returned. I just need to work on how to copy a recipe (other than writing it down of course). I haven't tried (or even read) many new cookbooks lately. Perhaps in the fall. Thx for the reminder about audio books -- I've never tried that and have been meaning to. It could be great when on the train, doing things around the house.. I've been trying to get rid of some cookbooks --- and went to a local bookstore that buys back used books, and they only wanted one. I've been soooo good about not buying books, but sometimes tempted! So getting them from the library allows me to check them out for free and no storage needed. And back to the topic ...... this sounded good. Sababa: Fresh, Sunny Flavors From My Israeli Kitchen by Adeena Sussman here's just a cut and paste from the description..... In Hebrew (derived from the original Arabic), sababa means "everything is awesome," and it's this sunny spirit with which the American food writer and expat Adeena Sussman cooks and dreams up meals in her Tel Aviv kitchen. Every morning, Sussman makes her way through the bustling stalls of Shuk Hacarmel, her local market, which sells irresistibly fresh ingredients and tempting snacks--juicy ripe figs and cherries, locally made halvah, addictive street food, and delectable cheeses and olives. In Sababa, Sussman presents 125 recipes for dishes inspired by this culinary wonderland and by the wide-varying influences surrounding her in Israel. From Freekeh and Roasted Grape Salad and Crudo with Cherries and Squeezed Tomatoes, to Schug Marinated Lamb Chops and Tahini Caramel Tart ...

Applecrisp and Blazedog: Those electronic library books don't let us copy and paste out to our text editors, etc., however, if you are willing to download a free program, there is a solution. I use Calibre (might be only for Windows users, I don't remember). It's a free program. It's awesome. I've mentioned it before. Been using it for several years. Once you load your ebook into Calibre you can then copy out what you want. Whatever you copy, goes into your Windows clipboard...so it's ready to paste into any text editor you use. (It also has a conversion feature, so let's say your ebook is a .mobi and you'd rather it be an .epub, just press a button and it's converted for you; say, for instance, you need to read the book in a non-Amazon device like a Nook.) Another thing I like to do: highlight text (using Calibre), press 'copy' and let it open and paste into my read out loud program: Text Aloud. (I adore that program and have used it for many years. It costs under $50 I think and it was worth every penny for me. I use it to proof-read stuff I scan, recipes I'm prepping to put into Mastercook, things I already have in Mastercook, etc. It's a huge help for me. Lately, I find myself letting it read first pages of books aloud to me because I want to test out books before I invest time reading a waste of a book in my Kindle at night. Gives me just enough to let me know if I'd even be interested in that book at all. Some books (all or part of) I let it read out loud to me as I clean house, cook, etc. So, the free Calibre program is the best thing since ... since before.... INSTANT POTS!! And Text Aloud (for some money) is awesome, too. Both can open up whole new worlds to you. I'm addicted to both! HAPPY READING!! PS: I've asked my two (different) county library systems to order Sababa -- so I am now on waiting list if they purchase. Due to be released to public Sep 3 (per Amazon). Looks so good. I'll bet it's from the restaurant in San Fran. (I haven't taken the time to read the fine print yet, but saw mention of rest with similar name in an article.) SO THANKS FOR MENTIONING AND SHOWING IT TO US, APPLECRISP!

What is it about cookbooks? I've sworn off buying any, have barely used the ones I have recently, and just sold two on Craigslist yesterday, but I still like to flip thru them, learn about new ones etc. When I was visiting family. I couldn't help look at my mom's cookbooks and they weren't really my type and they were a good 20-30+ years old. Ok,I might take one of the Silver Palate cookbooks that I don't have. But with that said ... I've always liked Ellie Krieger's cookbooks and noticed that she is getting on the one sheet pan, one pot bandwagon. Whole in One: Complete, Healthy Meals in a Single Pot, Sheet Pan, or Skillet (and props for a cute title!). Out in October.

Good news for anyone who has Amazon Prime - Once Upon a Chef is free to download on a Kindle. I love her website and her book recipes look very inviting. I'm looking forward to trying them.

I was looking for a gift for a friend and saw this online.... I'm going to see if my library has it --- I need some train reading. The Joys of Baking: Recipes and Stories for a Sweet Life The Joys of Baking is a sweet meditation on why we bake, on how what we make with our hands changes us, soothes, comforts and inspires us. Sam's generously personal stories and the collection of recipes she braids into them encourage us to bake, to pay attention as we stir and knead, and to reap each of the many pleasures she describes. The book is a delight.―Dorie Greenspan, award-winning author of Everyday Dorie and Dorie's Cookies The Joys of Baking bursts with ripe fruits and berries, dark, bittersweet chocolate, buttery tarts, whole grains, and creamy custards - in short, all of my favorite things to bake... and eat! Sprinkled with personal stories, Samantha Seneviratne's gorgeously photographed cookbook will fill anyone's sweet spot.―David Lebovitz, author of My Paris Kitchen and The Perfect Scoop "Seneviratne interweaves the personal with the practical, often poetically, to show us how a simple baking project can help us find "joys, plural" even - and perhaps especially - when life gets messy."―-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution About the Author Samantha Seneviratne is the author of The New Sugar and Spice, nominated for a 2016 James Beard Award, and Gluten-Free for Good. A frequent contributor to the New York Times and Food52, she has been an editor at Martha Stewart's Everyday Food, Fine Cooking, and Good Housekeeping, and her blog Love, Cake was a finalist at the 2015 Saveur Awards. Sam lives in Brooklyn with her son Artie.

I finally ordered Milk Street as an e-book; 3 seasons. It is hard for me to adjust to the e-format vs. holding a book and paging through it but I guess I need to move to the 21st century. THe Once upon a chef is no longer available free...drat. I am scared reading these posts. SO easily tempted to get more books!!!

I received the Milk Street Annual (Season 1-3) for Christmas/Birthday, then caught a Milk Street marathon on PBS and now my cookbook looks like a colored porcupine from all the tabs sticking out! I've made a handful of recipes and enjoyed every one. Also received Milk Street Tuesday Nights, I've only made two recipes from there but both were excellent. AND I have this one on pre-order Milk Street Fast and Slow: Instant Pot Cooking at the Speed You Need I just received an email stating delivery has been moved up to April 5. YAY!

Catbatty --- I didn't look to see if my library has Cool Beans yet in e-book form. I hope they do! Who knows might cave and buy it. Wallycat and Varaile -- I don't think I ever looked at the Milk Street cookbooks. Yet! Thx for the suggestions. I just heard about this cookbook (NYT best seller too). I'm not familiar with the author/website but will absolutely look it up. From just taking a quick look online, the book has great photography too. I pre-ordered this plant based ebook (La Vida Verde) and will get it TOMORROW! I'm excited. We love Mexican food. (Born and raised in Southern California, I practically teethed on burritos. In fact, we have a pot of pinto beans on the stove right this minute!) www.amazon.com/Vida-Verde-Plant-Based-Mexican-Authentic/dp/1624149723/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=La+Vida+Verde&qid=1586814731&sr=8-1La Vida Verde: Plant-Based Mexican Cooking with Authentic FlavorJocelyn Ramirez Kindle Edition Sold by: Macmillan {UPDATE: EBOOK ARRIVED, i LOOK THROUGH IT, NOT SURE I LIKE IT. USES MANY INGREDIENTS I'VE YET TO TRY OR FIND, PLUS GUESS I'M NOT READY TO GIVE UP CHEESE. i'LL UPDATE FURTHER WHEN I HAVE MORE TIME TO LOOK IT OVER. WRITTEN FOR SERIOUS VEGANS, I THINK, AND I'M NOT YET ONE. OTHERWISE, SEEMS LIKE A QUALITY BOOK.]

Applecrisp, (Update: caution, please read my edits below] I have the ebook ( Bigger Bolder Baking) and OMG it looks fantastic. Has weights, too, optional. Love that! Sheesh, the book has all kinds of different recipes. Wow. Yes, I think this would be a dream gift for your friend. If you want me to send you some samples, holler. I sent you an email awhile back, did you get it? If so, you have my address OR you can always message me here. The table of contents alone makes my mouth water lots. MY GOSH. OH, BTW: I would love to know which other of her recipes you tried and liked, if you get time. (This would be a fun cookbook to work on as a group!! Even has puddings. Even has a 'no oven needed' section...I'm thinking of hot summertime.) EDITING TO ADD: I just now took a look at Amazon for book. At first I was thrilled to see such high stars. But then, I read the lower star reviews and the accompanying photos of damage: www.amazon.com/Bigger-Bolder-Baking-Fearless-Approach-ebook/dp/B07LC88JZN/ref=sr_1_2? NOTICE: several reviewers at Amazon rec'd hardcover books in very, very poor condition. I did not read the majority happy reviews (91%), only the few who gave book low stars. But, I've never heard of new books arriving in such bad physical condition. Weird! Applecrisp, you might want to take a look before you purchase.
Might give this as a bday gift to one of my friends since she love to bake .... Bigger Bolder Baking: A Fearless Approach to Baking Anytime, Anywhere. I have made a couple of her recipes over the years that she has posted on her YT channel/website and they were all very good.

As a caution and in case you didn't notice, I've updated my response to you about gift you thought of getting your friend (Bigger Bolder Baking). Several reviewers reported getting really damaged hardcover books. It's so strange.
