July only...Mastercook 15 for Windows is half price! Reg $29.99....sale is: $14.99 (Use this code: MCFORHALF)Comes with 30 cookbooks, 8k recipes, one-year free Mastercook.com and Mobile App, etc. $14.99 is a very good price; they seldom do sales. So, if you've any interest...beat feet! To learn more about Mastercook, go to: www.mastercook.com/learn-more To purchase: Go to the website...click on shop...click to order MC15, page changes...shows how many copies you are ordering, etc...and add to shopping cart...and THEN you will see the line that asks about coupon code, click the white area underneath that...and type in the code 'MCFORHALF' (without the quotes) ...the page will instantly change the price to $14.99! I should mention also that they are going to be up'ing the price on the online stuff...you get one year free when you buy MC, and if you want more time, THAT is the price that will be going up to $24.99 a year, I believe. Well, it's on sale for, I believe, $9.99...so, how long that will be, who knows? But you might want to look into extending your online account. (PS: Honest and true: I've no gain to be had by telling you, but I do use Mastercook (all version since 1996, and like it. And also, sharing one or more recipes at a time...even whole collections of recipes, is a breeze with MC. My first ever download of an MC collection was back in 1996. I found it on AOL and hadn't a clue what it was. At the time, I didn't even own Mastercook. Long story short, eventually I did own Mastercook and the first thing I did with it was to point it to that download...1836 was name of it. I thought it might be a historical collection?? BOOM! I hit IMPORT and instantly 1,836 recipes loaded into my Mastercook...all sorted by alphabet...and had more sort choices depending on what I clicked on in MC (e.g., source...or author...or etc.) Blew me away. I'd never seen anything like that before. Now, that's nothing to me. Each 'cookcook' can hold thousands of recipes. (PS If the maker of the collection uses MC to do the Nutritional analysis, those items are sortable, too...like Calories, Calories from Fat, etc.) IF you want to see the email they sent me, send me a private note...or respond here and tell me you want to get a copy of it (has more details) and I have your email address...so I can forward you the exact email. Brenda Made some edits...see above. Thanx

Thanks for this great info. I'm still behind the times, using MC 11. Think it's worth it to upgrade? I imagine it's only a matter of time before my current MC becomes incompatible with some eventual operating system on a future laptop. Sell me on the upgrade, O Wise One. (Or maybe I just did.)

To all: Anyone want to view the latest discussions at the Mastercook Discussion group or to join the group... read on.I belong to the Mastercook Discussion group (a Yahoo email group) where MC management hangs out. All members can ask questions and get answers there...or if you prefer, privately mail support(from website). The group discussion is a great place to get all the latest news about Mastercook. To view discussions or to join, go to: groups.yahoo.com/group/Mastercook and subscribe from there. (PS: this group doesn't overwhelm you with email most months--if it gets super busy you can always go to site and switch to Digest that groups posts together and sends out once or twice a day.) There is another way to join, just send an email to: mastercookdiscussion-subscribe@yahoogroups.com no subject or text needed...just the addressed email (from whichever email account you want to get email at) The latest posts there have been from PamE at support. Things have changed greatly in the last few years. Used to be that recipe programs were something you ONLY installed on your computer. Mastercook is still that...but more. Nowadays people own all kinds of electronic devises...and they want all kinds of features...and some people want all kinds of ONLINE features. Professionals and institutions of many kinds are now using Mastercook and the entire scene has changed. So, the Mastercook people, after perfecting the desktop application, have been working with the pro's on the online stuff and that involves lots of new features. NUTRITION is a huge feature...and Mastercook always had it...but now the pros (dieticians, etc) want really involved nutritional analysis abilities--really, really involved and MC techs are intensely working on that and much more. (There is plenty already for us 'normal' folks online, speaking just for myself. But there will be much, much more once all the development is finished. See Pam's most recent posts.--she gives details. As I understand it, even if you don't buy the Mastercook program itself, the online account can be purchased and used by any type of computer/devise. (That is my understanding from reading PamE's posts.) The Mastercook program itself, the one we download on our computers...so far that is only for Windows. The big priorities come first (for all the pro users) and then, someday, a MAC version for computer will come. Anyway, checkout the discussion group if interested. PERSONALLY, here's what I've always thought about Mastercook: They have always sold it to the public for peanuts. I've seen it be this way for over 20 years. And the odd thing to me is: it's worth so much more! There is a learning curve, but there are so many people over at the discussion group ready and eager to help. Feel free to ask questions over there...even if you feel dumb doing it. There are no dumb questions and trust me, every one of us has had those same questions or stumbling blocks at one time or another!! PS: The online account, I believe, is still FREE if you want to check it out. It only holds 25 recipes, however...but you can get an idea of what you can do, build your online shopping list, etc. Catbatty

Thank you again for sharing the coupon code. I am still trying to get my cooking mojo back after several years of being physically & emotionally worn out thru elder care (my mom was ill for a number of years); I still haven't gotten back in the groove yet & feel as if I've forgotten most of what I knew about cooking well & taking the time to plan interesting meals. Am looking forward to figuring out how to install the new MC I downloaded, & maybe getting more inspired to cook creatively, as I used to. Appreciate your little "push"; it helped!

I'm glad that my post helped you, Testkitchen! Don't worry much about the install. It's pretty easy PLUS once you own the program, if you need to, you can always download again to any of your Windows computers. I've done it myself several times. Be sure to turn off any virus program, like Norton, just for the few minutes you install MC. I use Norton and I just click on it's icon and tell it to turn off...and then, soon as I install, I turn it back on. (You have Windows 10?) I let my install do its thing, let it do 'default' stuff...like where it wants the program to install and where it wants to put the cookbooks. (Those are optional...in fact, you can keep your cookbooks anywhere.) It's just easy to let it decide. I have never been a meal planner...not that I haven't wanted to be. But there is just the two of us and we live fairly spontaneously. I never know when HE will feel like cooking, which he does a lot. But anyway, there is a built in Meal Planning feature. But you probably know about that already. The program itself is going to look pretty similar to your older MC11, I think. (it's been awhile for me.) One new feature I like is that we can now, in Preferences, set the Recipe Edit window to larger fonts (up to 14pts). And of course, as always, the normal window (I forget what it's called) lets you change it to larger fonts and colors of each section, etc. One thing I don't think you had earlier was .mz2 -- Say, for instance, that in the old days you wanted to email me a recipe that had a photo. You would have had to send the photo separately...and then on my end, I would have had to import the recipe and then go back and manually add the photo to the recipe. Newest MC's now have .mz2 export feature...meaning you can send the photo right along with the recipe...and all I have to do is click on the mz2 and it automatically imports the recipe AND the photo. Done. Goes right in perfectly...to my 'cookbook' of choice. PLUS, you now have the online account, which is a whole new world of things. Make shopping lists and view them on portable devise, etc. I'm happy that you are excited to get back to doing things you enjoy. I'll send you some stuff privately soon as you tell me you are loaded up. (I have a zillion 'cookbooks' n stuff.) Catbatty

Baby steps:
Bought--check! Downloaded to laptop--check! Installed--check!
Moving MC11 info to the new one, or using the new one at all? Not yet, but I'm excited to try it soon.

Grasshopper... you have made successful steps so far. The hardest part is over. Now comes the moving folders part. You have choice of letting MC do it or you can just do it yourself. I always opt to do it myself. (I can't help you if you decide to use the MC migration tool...because I'm not very familiar with that method, but PamE at Support can give you instructions on how to.) Manual migration is easiest for me, so: First: in your MC11, have you ever used the My Collections folder? Have you ever used the My Recipes Cookbook? If yes to either of those questions... make sure to empty them. (Move their contents into new folders/cookbooks.) Why? Because they don't travel... The newer MC will have empty ones in place. I *never* use the My Recipes cookbook, because of that. I don't want to risk losing them. Those are the only two places I make sure to empty BEFORE I move my folders (called Collections) and that one cookbook "My Recipes." Are you familiar with DRAGGING AND DROPPING? I just go to my existing folders...and drag them into the place where I will be keeping my new Mastercook cookbooks... Usually in Users/username/Documents/Public/Mastercook15. (Going from memory.) You can ACTUALLY keep your cookbooks ANYWHERE on your computer. But anyway...keeping them all in one spot is best... SO, you just drag all your stuff EXCEPT THE TWO THINGS I MENTIONED ABOVE) into their new home. From there, you open Mastercook 15 and make it SEE the folders (Collections) you want it to 'see'. (To have active) To do this, you go to Cookbooks. See the "Cookbooks" thing at top of your screen? THAT takes you to a list of your cookbooks. NOW...once you are there in front of your cookbook list....LOOK UP AT TOP LEFT of your screen. See TOOLS? Press on that. A dropdown menu will open. Go down to "Manage Collections." THIS 'MANAGE COLLECTIONS" is where you can awaken or put to sleep your Collection folders. To make MC 'see' a collection, press the Manage Collections...and you will see ALL YOUR FOLDERS LISTED THERE. Select the ones you want active.... (if, like me, you have hundreds of folders, you probably don't want ALL of them active at once... slows down the action...so I let some of them sleep and I don't activate them.) It may ask you to point to the MC15 section again...there in the Public Documents section...no biggy. Point to MC15 and the list of your collections will open. Press on one of them...and see to the right...it says ADD... press that. Do that for any folders you want to open automatically when MC opens. Well, not OPEN...but 'be available' would be better wording. It sounds hard...but all of this is VERY ROUTINE... Brenda
