MIGRATING... ? WANT TO MOVE TO ANOTHER RECIPE SYSTEM? WANT TO GET YOUR RECIPES OUT OF AN OLD PROGRAM'S CODING?
Help is here if you need...for free, I might add.
Let's say you have some recipe software that you no longer use or that has gone out of business ... AND you want to retrieve your recipes and put them into a different recipe software system. So your recipes are locked up in some coded format that you cannot read and you don't want to lose them, but HOW are you gonna get them OUT of that coding? Or how can you load them up and into some OTHER program you have bought? I think I can help you.
As you may know, I've been hanging around computer and recipe related stuff for many years. I am exposed to all kinds of free and good stuff... I have friends who have held my hand through many a saga and I've been exposed to and helped with all kinds of software. SO, this is how I know about this stuff....I'm certainly not a techie, but I do know folks who are and I know about some very cool tools.
One of these tools is called CB2CB. It's free. It converts our stuff from most all recipe programs to most all other types of recipe programs. (Example of its use: my friend, PamE, is customer support for Mastercook recipe management software. She uses CB2CB pretty much daily. People come to her when they want OUT of their present recipe software and into Mastercook. She converts say their old Living Cookbook stuff into their new Mastercook program. She does this for all kinds of people who have old or dead recipe programs and they want to put their coded recipes into Mastercook.)
Background: Many recipe software products are gone now...such as Living Cookbook. You may own a copy but you can't get the program anymore (when it was a viable product that you could buy, you could only put it on ONE of your computers...not all of your computers), so you can't install it on your newest computer even if your COULD buy it now, which you can't. So you are stuck. (The owner is not responding to letters from owners...no word really for a coupla years now. People are NOT happy!)
Or, say you own and have used some OTHER recipe software that has changed its policies...and now wants huge fees for use. And you want out. But you have all your collections of recipes inside that program (and they are coded so that leaves you not knowing how you can migrate them (move them) into some new program you want to use).
Like I said in my rambling here, it doesn't really matter what you have...or what you want to migrate to.... the program that both PamE and I have access to (CB2CB) can switch the recipes to whatever you want. Heck, YOU can even do it yourself, if you are computer literate and want to load up CB2CB--it's a free program.
SO, email me or post here or send me a private message if you are trying to get your stuff moved to another software and I'll see if I can help you. IF I can't, Pam will probably volunteer to help and failing that, I know of another person who knows all about CB2CB and can help. IT's REALLY NOTHING FOR US TO HELP GET YOU FIXED. SO...go look for your recipes...in whatever extensions they are now in. LAY HANDS ON THEM...and that's all you need to do. If you can get those to me, I can convert them to anything you want. I can probably even convert them to plain text for you.)
Laying hands on your oddball extensions ain't easy, I know. But here is another helper:
I suggest that you download the free program called EVERYTHING! for quickly finding your stuff. (I use the program everyday, on all 3 of my computers. Could not get through LIFE without it!!)
It will instantly show you where your files are and help you to get to them. Everything is available here: www.voidtools.com I am constantly raving about Everything for good reason. It's one of the best free things I've ever found in my computer world. I have many computer friends who feel same. If you want to always know where you put something on your computer, this program can sure help a ton! (And it does it all FAST...and once it shows you where things are, it also has right-click features that allow you to DO stuff with what it finds) ...It's bloody amazing, that's all. I love it!!! I have over 20 years of files on my several laptops...it takes me right to whatever I want...and does even more.
I have no affiliation with any of the above other than as a user. I'm just happy to be able to offer help to my friends here.
