On a whim, I checked out the May 2017 issue of CL from the library, the first issue I've read in quite some time since the overhaul. I have to say that I was quite pleasantly surprised and found a number of recipes that I would like to try. Some features I liked were recipes featuring more unusual pantry ingredients such as tahini and hoisin sauce. Has anyone else been reading CL recently and if so, what are your thoughts?

gobluem82 --- I haven't looked at an actual CL mag in years, but I think I will check it out the next time I'm at the library, or flip thru one at the store. I stopped all mags a few year back but Time since I didn't want the paper/clutter, but hmm, now that I have a Kindle Fire.....
I don't think I've made a newer CL recipe in a couple of months but while some don't really appeal to me, there are more than a few that do --- I get the recipes from their website. I've tried a few that I've really liked ... but no clue what they were off hand. I did make an old CL recipe a few days ago that I liked, Cilantro-Serrano Pesto with Grilled Chicken and Penne (with bunch of changes)
Thx for the suggestion.

I still have a subscription that expires this fall, but I am not sure if I will renew. I don't end up looking at it (and others that I still get with the lure of $5 per year subscriptions). I just don't like magazines like I used to. I don't even look at them at the hair or nail salon either.

I just don't like magazines like I used to. I don't even look at them at the hair or nail salon either. Me, too. I received a free sub to Bon Appetit, & still have the stack of unread mags. It's not like me to keep stuff around--I'm pretty anti-clutter--but this (neat) year's worth of BA still says, "don't throw me into the recycling bin, yet! what a waste; surely there's SOMETHING in here you'd enjoy? For me, the problem is lack of time. I used to find about 10 recipes per BA that I'd love to give a whirl, but available time puts a bit Nope! on that & I end up feeling guilty that I got soooooo close to all those great homemade goodies . . . But as for CL (back on topic), I'm pleased by the positive review but am unlikely (for the same reasons as w/ BA) to buy an issue. Checking out one from the library sounds like fun. At least the library copy can keep my BAs company.

Interesting news--the current editor of CL will be taking over as editor of Food and Wine Magazine as described in this article. It doesn't mention who will be taking over for Hunter Lewis at CL; it will be interesting to see what impact, if any, there will be on the format.
