Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the price of food at the market has doubled and almost tripled in the last month or so?
I first noticed a package of sliced cheese 8 oz had gone up dramatically, then all foods even frozen followed suit. Fresh fruit and veggies seem to have skyrocketed as well. A little roma tomato is almost 1 dollar, avocados are way up, and all down the line. The prices are high for everything here in so cal, but the biggest quickest increase I noticed was at the market. Seems like it happened almost overnight.
What say you?

Portland, Oregon here...I've noticed for last several weeks that frozen prepared things (ok folks...I have, yes, a few addictions) haven't gone on SALE at all. Like Nancy's products, which I love. My husband said that things seem normal to him...except there for a bit organic eggs shot up and now are back down. I suspect drought. Or too much heat?? I don't know...but it would be interesting to know.
My husband just got back from Winco and found my Amy's frozen enchiladas for $3.77. That's amazing good price here. Most markets aren't budging on their price of...about $5.39 or more. (Edited to clarify: Amy's used to go on sale all the time. Lately, last few weeks, no sales on it or any of my fav things in frozen prepared dept of any of our 'usual' markets...but have not looked at places like Safeway, Albertsons. So, for now, looks like well have to go Winco...big box stores...to get the deals. Else, I usually walk right past the item, figuring I can live without em at those higher prices and no budging on them. Sniff.)

I noticed the price jump across the board - even paper goods, cleaning products -- everything at once. Over the years prices go up on one product at a time, but I noticed a big jump/increase on everything.

I'm in WA and OUCH on the prices. Even the sales prices and frequency with which they are offered are paltry compared to previous years. And I would love to support our local farmer's markets, but the prices there are double and triple what they are..even at the health-food-type co-op we have here.

SE VA here and I've noticed prices have increased steadily in the past few years. Even the farmers market and farm stand prices are up significantly over last year. I still buy fresh produce, but am more judicious about what I buy and pretty much only what's in season.

Yep, prices are up all across the board. The local farmer's markets used to be the affordable option- I could take $20 and buy a TON of fresh produce. Right now that would buy me a 5 pound bag of apples, a bunch of carrots and two bundles of herbs. If I'm lucky. I just put in a order for a "fall share" at a local farmstand. I pay $80 for two weeks of what is supposed to be a good size farm share- including plenty of winter squash and new honey. We'll see if that's worth the investment!
I have a vegetable garden, but have been battling with voles this year, so I haven't gotten what I would have liked. We're lucky that DH has co-workers who raise chickens and pigs for us- and those prices haven't gone up at all.

With the combination of rising prices and decreasing quantities, it's getting crazy out there. I was just saying to DH yesterday that I didn't stock up on butter (unsalted sticks) b/c I think they've gone up by maybe 50c or 60c/box, and that's for the store brand. I'll wait for a sale in order to buy a bunch of butter to keep in the freezer for upcoming baking extravaganzas. So I think butter had a jump; I don't recall it being so high even the last time I bought it (a few weeks ago, maybe?).

Honolulu, Hawaii here. You can imagine the cost of living in paradise, everything is expensive here as many things have to be shipped in from the mainland. I was told that Whole Foods automatically puts a 30% markup on every single item they sell. I usually try to buy most of our stuff at Costco since their prices are the best value. I also try to shop at the Farmer's Market fr things like herbs since they a re more than double the price in stores like Safeway, and I like putting my money directly in the farmers hands.

I bought salted butter the other day because it was on sale and about a buck cheaper than the unsalted.

I don't find prices all that bad, but probably because I buy butter and such items when on sale. Might be regional too. I have a lot of different stores close by to choose from, so with so much competition, there's always a sale on something some where. Looking at flyers, I noticed a store has Honeycrisp apples for 99 cents/lb, which is a fantastic deal.
