After 20+ years now of belonging to many recipe groups and recipe software groups, and hanging out in cookbook groups of different kinds...some books REALLY stand out in my memory as impressing folks for the goodness of the recipes within. The one book that, in my memory, seems like every recipe was raved over at one time or another (to the point where I was really becoming quite impressed) was a Junior League of Houston book: Stop and Smell the Rosemary...(you Texans should be very proud)... www.amazon.com/Stop-Smell-Rosemary-Traditions-Remember/dp/0963242121/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1489310828&sr=1-1&keywords=stop+and+smell+the+rosemaryIt's nowadays to the point that if I see a copy of it at the Goodwill, for instance, I begin talking to anyone nearby and pointing it out to them. (I'm a cookbook isle stalker...if you show the slightest interest in cookbooks...lookout for me, I'm right on it and going to help you whether you want help or not. LOL) I typed up some recipes from this book...if you'd like a sampling, contact me privately. I just love finding a book that has so many tested recipes!! OH one more book comes to mind: Cafe Beajolais (I also have samples from that book) www.amazon.com/Cafe-Beaujolais-Margaret-S-Fox/dp/0898151341/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1489311741&sr=1-1&keywords=cafe+mendocinoPrior to Smitten Kitchen, these two books were the two that seemed to get an awful lot of happy talk. Just sayin'....

I've heard of the first cookbook you mentioned and remember it being mentioned on the CLBB many times. I think that Tortilla Soup (that was on the main page for the old CLBB for years) was from that book I've never heard of the other one. Thanks for the suggestion.
I am trying not to buy any cookbooks (regardless of format) since I have way toooo many recipes, whether from cookbooks or on my computer. I still seem to add recipes to my computer, although I try to cut back. And, I'm not being very successful at that.
But there is always the library!

Applecrisp, You have Mastercook I think. (?) If you like, I can send you some already done up and can tell you how to put into your MC. These and all the wonderful books from the last 20+ years...I hope they don't just fade away. Some were really good. These are two good examples of books that should remain.
