Are you dining in or dining out? Any new dishes you're planning on making,, or any old favorites that are always requested?

Steamed artichokes as a starter/nibbler. Linguine and clams with garlic, butter, white wine, parsley and lemon juice. Flourless chocolate cake from the Bakery, with Fresh strawberries, Coffee or Salted Caramel Gelato and whipped cream.

Have you seen the chocolate cake thread?
I've been very good about staying away from sweets since Christmas, but I am going to make an exception and make chocolate cake. We don't even celebrate Valentine's Day, but we will celebrate Chocolate Cake!

Two menus kicking around here. Menu 1: chicken cutlets, mashed sweet potatoes, broccoli. Menu 2: pork cutlets, creamed cabbage, garlic mashed potatoes. I was thinking of trying these Cream Cheese and Poppy Seed Cakes, but that chocolate cake thread is tempting! And so are the tahini swirl brownies--just for something different.

I don't think I've ever gone out to eat on Valentine's Day other than one year that I was entertaining clients who were in town for a hearing the next morning. We've done a favorites request from the boys or for years I made homemade heart shaped pizzas for them. Tomorrow, DH and I are going out to a restaurant owned by a former neighbor of our -- the one our son worked at over the summer. We went there for Thanksgiving dinner (I made a turkey over the weekend), and it was one of the best meals I've had out. The special menu looks really good -- except for the oyster amuse bouche. Neither of us are oyster fans, but we may have to try it. DH wants to trade his for an extra dessert. There are three offerings and we will only get to try two. Sigh. Hope you all have a good meal and meaningful time with someone you care about and who cares about you (even if for some reason you are on your own -- it happens, so be kind to yourself).

Thought I would mention, If you're looking for a unique, quick Valentine's dessert, this strawberry angel food cake is an idea (sans the cool whip). Nothing fancy here. We're forecast for another day of possible 70 mph winds, hail, tornadoes and flooding (yeah, just another day in Houston) so it's some chicken Italian sausages with pasta, and a simple salad with lettuce harvested from my neighbor's garden. She plants her front and side yards with edibles and invites one and all to harvest. Right nowthe arugula, and red and green leaf lettuces are at their peak.

I never like dining out on holidays like Valentine's Day or Mothers' Day--it's so crowded and overpriced, and they're always trying to rush you out. We opt in for a quiet dinner by the fire every time. This year I think I'm going to defrost some Beef Bourguignon that's in the freezer and make some stuffed artichokes to serve alongside. And this awesome Thomas Keller dessert is our Valentine's Day tradition. Enjoy everyone!

Nothing special here. I'm going to make slow cooker split pea soup to use up some refrigerator and pantry items. I'm going to Jazzercise from 5:30 - 6:30pm so dinner will be ready when I get home - no fuss, no muss .

goblue - you totally inspired me! I saw that these are from Classic Home Desserts, which I have and love. I had all the ingredients, and am working from home, so just made them.
Question - I filled my 8 oz ramekins to 3/4 of the way, and still had enough to fill 4 4oz ramekins... Does that sound right?

Sally, You didn't mention how many of the 8-ounce ramekins you filled, so I can't really say. I usually make 2/3 of the recipe, which fills four 8-ounce ramekins roughly halfway. Really, though, I don't think you can go wrong with this recipe--just make sure to remove the ramekins from the oven when the outside looks set but the middle is not. I have never bothered with removing the dessert from the ramekins before serving but just put the ramekins on a plate with some whipped cream on top. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Hi goblue - when I inverted the ramekins, it's more like pudding than in the photo? that's a good tip to make 2/3 of the recipe... Thanks!

Yes, it's a little hard to tell since the photo doesn't show what the inside looks like, but the middle is definitely more like pudding than cake. I must also be using a larger ramekin since mine is not as tall as the photo.
I originally got the recipe from an article that Richard Sax wrote in the April 1989 issue of Bon Appetit, and I've probably made it for Valentine's Day every year since then.

We are traveling, and decided that the best plan would be dinner at our Airbnb. Got some steaks and pre made salads at trader joes, roasted potatoes that I bought last week at the Santa Monica farmers market. Easy peasy and delicious. Salted caramel ice cream for dessert.
