Remember the good old days on the Food Network when the chefs actually taught you how to make a dish? Before the days of reality shows and cooking competitions? I long for those days and recently discovered a tv channel affiliated with my local PBS station called Create TV. The channel includes viewers' favorite public television series on cooking, travel, home improvement, gardening, arts and crafts and other lifestyle interests. Cooking shows available feature Rick Bayless, Sara Moulton, Jacques Pepin, Lidia Bastianich, Steve Raichlen and others. These programs are commercial free because they were developed for public television. Check createtv.com to see if it is available in your area. This programming is so much better than the majority of what is on tv these days! Hope you can enjoy some quality cooking programs. Carole

And chef Ming Tsai, as I recall. Although I've had a little trouble finding the recipes on their websites from time to time.

I have Directv but look like it's part of PBS. I've seen Martha on there when channel surfing, but I rarely watch things live (DVR everything). I too miss the old days of Food Network - used to watch Sara Mouton and Emeril all the time. I also remember Gail Gand having a baking/dessert show on one of the channels.

Love to Run -- I'm with you, I've watched Create TV many times, usually Americas Test Kitchen....
And don't start me on the junk (IMO) on FN. Sometimes I think they should change the FN name to the Guy Fieri station. Ugh. And I' won't watch those Cutthroat Kitchen type shows, but they must be hits for them.

I LOVE the Create channel! Just caught a few of my favorites this weekend: America's Test Kitchen, Martha Bakes, Martha's Cooking School, Cooks Country, Lidia Bastianich... My only tiny complaint is some of my other favorites aren't on a regular schedule, and it can be hit or miss if I catch them, like Nick Stellnos - he'll be on for a month, the poof! Gone. Husband and I will watch the cooking shows in between college football, regular football, and college basketball.
