I stumbled upon the fact that Amazon is opening brick and mortar stores (bookstores) in some cities. We went to see the one they recently opened at Washington Square Mall (1 mile from my house). Reporting back: it was more than I expected. I went expecting few books and not many cookbooks. But no! Lots of cookbooks. I think I saw 3 large long isles of the most popular. They honor the prices that are at Amazon.com. I don't know if I will be able to stand this. Very exciting for a book addict. 
We bought a paperwhite...a white one. My original Kindle can barely hold a charge these days. Wanted the non-glare screen of the paperwhite for a long time. It is a bit smaller-sized (the screen) however. I crawled into bed with my old one last night...I'm gonna miss that thing.
