I killed my immersion blender last night. I thought I could use it to stir up a jar of tahini that had separated and I blew the motor. So now I'm on the market for a new one. Last one was decent but nothing special about it (except it was cherry red and she was very pretty!) Mostly I use it to puree soups or make mayo. I think it was a kitchenaid and thought I'd do a quick poll to see what you all had before I made a purchase. I'm leaning toward Cuisinart, Braun or KitchenAid again. Thoughts?

I have a braun that I have had for many years and love. My one big requirement is that the shaft be metal, not plastic. I think those ones are sturdier and don't stain either. All the previous ones that I had did not have metal shafts and died after 1-2 years. This one has been going strong longer than I can remember now!

I have a Breville and have been happy with it. My only issue is that the release of the attachments from the main handle/motor can be a bit tricky, but that may be my grip strength. I just saw that KA has a new one -- candy apple red, an extra long blending arm, no cord (rechargeable battery) and good reviews -- and a $239 price tag ON SALE! I didn't know there was such a thing. Think I'm going to have to wait for my Breville to die before I can lose the cord.

I have a Cuisinart QuikPrep Blender (this is the same model number, but mine is pretty old). I use it for soups and for canning. It's not fancy, but it does what I need it to do and I've never had a problem with it.

I have the Cuisinart Smart Blender There is nothing wrong with it but I don't use it nearly as much as I used to use my old white plastic Braun that I loved, loved, loved. I don't think they make the model that I had anymore. My MIL gave it to me about 20 + years ago and it was by far my fave. Loved that thing.

I have a Cuisinart Smart Stick I bought about 5 years ago (with a coupon of course!). Metal shaft, only one speed but powerful. We use it for soups a lot. Easy to disassemble and clean, gets the job done in a hurry. I used it at Thanksgiving to puree carrots, celery, onions and mushrooms cooked with the turkey breast into a great gravy that didn't require thickening with cornstarch or flour. DH loves it for cream of cauliflower soup. Current model is $34.95 at Sur La Table in two colors.

I was given a Bamix as a gift. It came with a stand and mini processor. I don't really use it that often, but it has been great each time I have used it. The Bamix replaced a giant old school immersion blender that I inherited from my Grandma. I had named that blender Big Bertha. 😊

Thanks everyone! Your posts made me realize I need to think about features that are important to me, eg. shaft, # of speeds, corded or cordless, and release of blade from motor (my old one was very easy!) soupandstew - did you want to share that gravy recipe that didn't require a thickener?

My KA is 8 years old. I only use it to blend soups. It's corded and has a metal shaft.

I did not even skim the gravy because there just wasn't that much fat. As the recipe says, it's not as thick as a conventional gravy, but very rich and creamy.

I recently had to replace my very old (probably 15 - 20 years old) Cuisinart stick blender. I purchased a Breville model and it is much more powerful than my old one. Have used it twice and each time it performed beautifully. But, it is also much larger and heavier than the old one. The old one, btw, was chopping some whole tomatoes (from a can) and the blade just fell off in the middle of this task.
