I just don't know what to get mine. I did have an Apple gift card so purchased an iPad cover for him - holy moly are those things ridiculously expensive. Other than that I'm at a loss. He's not into mustards, jams, salamis or that kind of stuff so probably no foodie gifts. I wouldn't get him anything but it is fun to open at least a couple of presents on Christmas morning. Love to hear what you're all doing.

DH and I wrestled with this again this year. He has everything he needs, 95% of what he wants, and is impossible to fit. And the same goes for me. I could get him another sweater but it would not fit and there's nothing to exchange it for because everything is sold out after Christmas. He's happy with his current IPhone, he got an IPad when they were on sale mid-summer. We decided on a commitment to one another to be more aggressive in exploring stuff in our community so I purchased memberships in several local museums and signed up for their newsletters. Last week we went to an amazing fish hatchery working to improve the Gulf populations of red snapper, flounder and sea trout (hint-if you can figure out why male flounder will not release their sperm in captivity you will be a national hero and very rich). In February we've scheduled tour a Ridley sea turtle hatchery program which we'll combine with a seafront lunch somewhere. At our age and stage, experiences together are waaaaay better than stuff. Although we did go together to buy our new Prepara oil mister at Sur La Table and were both so excited you would have thought it was gold.

We don't do gift exchanges. Makes life so much easier. No Channukah exchanges either. DH has recently purchased a revolver and fun stuff for it. He's a hunter so any type of hunting gear is great for him.

Soupandstew - love your idea. I'll look into some local attractions. We're new to this area so I should find something that we'd both enjoy. Oceanjasper - LOL, DH certainly doesn't need a chainsaw but you made me think of a Weber Kettle. We haven't had a full size BBQ for a long time and I've been wanting one for our new house so that might be the ticket. It's something I probably want more than him but a good gift just the same . Wallycat - we exchange gifts just cuz it's fun. We're not talking anything expensive. Two years ago I got him a little calculator because he was always borrowing mine when doing the bills. So it was a practical yet fun gift (he never expected a calculator so he got a good chuckle).

Got it. Sounds romantic and sweet! Does he use any special grooming products? WOuld he do a manicure/hand massage somewhere? New electric toothbrush? Shaver? Fancy razor? or shaving cream? If you knit, you could make a nice scarf for him...but probably not a secret if he's watching you.

Flannel lined jeans...a sweatshirt, guitar strings, some gadget-y things he wants.

DH likes Alton Brown recipes so I bought him EveryDayCook. I think he will like it and I know I appreciate the meals that he prepares.

We don't exchange gifts either. Instead, we're going for a dinner at a little Italian cafe we love and will spend the night at a hotel at the marina just to get away from it all.

We stopped exchanging gifts long ago. I do put things in the stockings though - fave chocolates, scratch lottery tickets, etc.

I bought DH a Rough Linen robe when they were on sale at Thanksgiving (had been planning on getting a pair of pillow cases, but decided to wait on those when the bath items were on sale and DH had seen and commented on the robe), but I may save that for his birthday in January. I bought him a flannel shirt, a dress shirt and a sweater. I'm trying to improve his casual wardrobe with him spending more time at home and eventually retiring. Give me a couple of years for that project and we may change our practice. I like Gail's approach, but for now, I am enjoying the boys at home rather than getting away.

In addition to the iPad cover I got him a wireless mouse and a Weber Kettle so I'm done shopping for him unless I buy some accessories for the grill.

Possible change of plans. We were going to go out for breakfast this morning (birthday treat) but discovered DH's jacket had moth holes in it. We went through the closet and one of his new suits as well ass that jacket I got him last year for Christmas got hit -- as well as a suit for each of my sons. We had a bad outbreak of moths in some bird seed this summer. I froze the seed and cleaned out the container, put traps in the kitchen and utility room which are nearest the garage, but never thought to be concerned about the far away closets. They always go after the best stuff.....

We don't usually do much gift exchanging, but I got DH a some surprises this year: an In/Out alarm clock since he never seems to set his correctly:)) , a device to transfer all of those VHS tapes of the kids onto DVR's, and a night's stay at a nearby lighthouse right before Valentine's Day.

The lighthouse trip sounds like fun. Hope you both enjoy that one.

I was really stumped for DH this year, but I finally settled on some new grill tools. I bought him a cast iron box that holds wood chips for smoking, and then some unique varieties of chip that we can't get around here- peach and hickory. I also added an LED light for night-time grilling. We'll be stopping at a local store this week to buy some new hand tools for grilling. I've bought too many online that have been really cheap and I'd like to get some heavy duty ones that will last more than a season.
I would like to find a TV series to buy for him on DVD, but I'm not finding something that screams to me. He's working out of town this winter (usually he's laid off) and is back in a hotel room by about 6:00pm at night. He takes a laptop with him, and I thought he'd like to spend a few months binge watching something, but he's kind of picky so it's hard to find something.
At the very least, a trip to World Market will also be happening for some unique beers.

BTW - I know it's older but if your husband hasn't seen The Wire, it is well worth the money.

Thanks for the recommendation!

For $9.99 a month, he can stream a lot of shows and movies, whenever he wants. Netflix has so many original series such as House of Cards, Narcos, Orange is the New Black, and so many others that I haven't even looked at lately. The good thing is that you both can use it. If you subscribe to HBO or other movie channels, you can watch on your computer or phone for free and you can watch all the recent and old shows on it, including The Wire, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Boardwalk Empire, etc. It comes out cheaper than buying DVD's. If you don't subscribe, I think it's $14.99 a month and I think they are promoting free trials now. There Just a thought. Best thing is that you can sign up for only the months you want. There are so many options besides DVD's where he can watch whatever he wants.
