I'm down to only subscribing to one food magazine these days (can only store just so many). And so, I'm excited that the latest Martha Stewart magazine arrived yesterday. Do any of you like or use or subscribe?

I had sworn off magazines. Then the grandkids started selling subscriptions for their school and I got hooked on Fine Cooking. I know it's pricey but I actually find recipes I like. We're extremely short on storage space so I tear out the pages I need and toss the magazine. Sacrilege - I know! Eventually the recipes get copied and pasted off the website or I type them up.

I love Fine Cooking, too. I buy those at the market. <Who can resist?> I know of a way to capture the recipes, month by month, page by page. Fairly easily. Well, it was...back when RecipeFox was operational that I could grab a month-at-a-time within a short period of time. But even so, the method still works for saving myself from scanning or typing a recipe. I found that, at Eat Your Books website (I pay a yearly fee...not much...but they might have free to test trial) and I put up a 'bookshelf' -- a list -- of all the cookbook, magazines, blogs I have or subscribe to...or even just buy regularly. Eat Your Books keeps track of various book, mags, blogs...and will post the index of what's in them; the recipe names, links to where to find the recipes online (if poss) by month's issue. SO, say I want to have a text copy of a recipe from June Fine Cooking issue, I see if they have the contents 'indexed' (OH and they notify me by email when something that is on my bookshelf is recently indexed !!) and i open to see, for instance, the index they have provided of the June issue of FC...which will tell me the names of the recipes, which pages number inside mag, a list of ingredients for each recipe...AND a link to the FULL recipe at Fine Cooking's website (for June). Not all things are indexed yet. You can click a button to ask that something *be* indexed. I found that the most popular mags are indexed! (It's a good thing and reasonably priced... as I recall, maybe $25 a year...or less. 2 gals started the service several years ago. Again, that service is online Eat Your Books. You can also share your own reviews there and see other peoples'. If you are trying to capture recipes from magazines, that is one easy way. PS: I take no responsibility whether or not this post, or any I make this week, make sense or are concise enough. Far too much excitement, far too little time--living on coffee and nerves...little sleep. But hey, it's a good thing.

I am a magazine and cookbook junkie. It is my one vice, although I have cut down a lot over the past two years. I have subscriptions to a couple of Australian magazines - delicious (my hands down favorite magazine) and Taste as well as Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Martha Stewart, and Redbook. I recently re-subscribed to Fine Cooking because they had a one year for $6.00 special. Two baking magazines I have recently started enjoying are Sift from King Arthur Flour and Bake From Scratch. I like Eat Your Books too, but haven't fully subscribed as yet.

PS: Gecko -- Sure happy to see you are back with us. You have been missed. Welcome and hugs. I would love to sub to Fine Cooking, come to think of it. Any more news of deals like that? I wouldn't be able to resist. Please share if you know of any, thanks. (I think we all share your same vices in some fashion or another.) (And www.cookbooker.com I still love that FREE place and the member's reviews of books/mags/blog recipes. Too bad the owner couldn't stay with it and it kinda just sits there, but people still post. I mean, it exists. Owner/maker must be paying for it to remain there. Love that.)

The only magazine I am contemplating subscribing to is "Wine and Spirits." There are so many magazines at the two libraries out here, that it isn't even tempting for me. If I find a great issue, I cough up the big price on a single issue. Can you believe I have not purchased a cookbook in YEARS?!!

If I find a great issue, I cough up the big price on a single issue. Can you believe I have not purchased a cookbook in YEARS?!! Tears in my eyes!! Wha? No buy cookbooks? What about ebooks? I cannot resist them either...especially if they are ebooks. (If there were quality done-up Mastercook books, I'd buy those, too! Course, I don't *have* to buy em, people send them to me free...my recipe buddies. hehe) Hmm.... I will buy whatever comes along. My husband doesn't mind because he says it keeps me busy... (off the streets and outta the bars...LOL) I have great libraries here, too. I check out...and renew and have shelves for them here, etc. I get cooking ebooks from the library, too. I am really, really, really, seriously an addict. But I love it somehow. It's what I do.

I get it. I'm 800+ in the books and I think the relocation gave me a rude awakening. That and the internet. I started cookbook collecting when I was 19....I may donate my 800 to the library and let them store them for me

I no longer get get any food magazines (I have to check, I think I might have FN Mag on hold). In fact I think the only mag I get is Time. I just don't want to deal with the clutter and the waste of paper. When I get a tablet, I might subscribe to a magazine or two. : ) I was on an airplane a few weeks back and the man next to me was reading a cooking mag, I loved the feature that you could click on the recipe and it would save it for you.
I do check the CL site and since it has the recipe index for reach issue -- and I still try some CL recipes that way.
I know with me, if I got a magazine, I would cut out recipes that looked interesting, and the pile would get bigger and bigger, and barely be touched. Been there, done that. : )
This is not saying I haven't been tempted. And I have caved, especially when I can get some mags free thru using airline points/other offers.

I get WAY too many food magazines, but as due dates are coming up, many of them will not be renewed. These are in my current pile" Vegetarian Times Cooking Light Every day with Rachael Ray Food & Wine Saveur I greatly dislike the pretentious tone of Food & Wine and Saveur and those won't be renewed. I never have liked Rachael Ray, and am on the fence with CL. The issue I got this week actually had several recipes that looked do-able for me. I will always get VT, as it gets me out of my box sometimes. I am currently not subscribing to Eating Well, and that's another favorite of mine. Better Homes & Gardens, Real Simple and Southern Living all get delivered to my mailbox, and I flip through them mostly for the recipes. These were all free subs and I will not be renewing them. Mother Earth Living isn't really a cooking magazine, but there are often healthy recipes and creative uses for herbs, so it's keeper for me along with Mother Earth News. WAY too many periodicals and I hardly read any of them right now.

It was a one day special that Taunton Press ran at the end of August. I did see this deal recently that lets you subscribe to BH&G, Martha Stewart Living, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and Family Circle for $14 for one year of each magazine - here.

I was skimming through an Eating Well magazine at the library this weekend and was re-impressed. They are embracing that meat and fats are not evil and I saw almost no low-fake-food/fat in the recipes I skimmed.

I subscribe to Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking (added the $6 deal for myself and my Mom) and Food Network. I used to subscribe to more magazines, but I can't part with them easily and after moving over 1000 lbs of cookbooks and magazines (twice!) DH suggested I might want to dial it back a little. LOL.
I will pick up random issues of other magazines if they look interesting, e.g. Eating Well, Saveur, Cooks Illustrated, etc. LOVE the Australian magazines, such as Delicious, Taste, and Donna Hay, but they are hard to find around here and subscriptions from Canada are super expensive. Probably a good thing!

I am so inundated with recipes from blogs and pages I follow via email and social media I have stopped subscribing to magazines. I miss the days when my new Cooking Light would arrive and I would relax in the evening devouring every page! But I simply don't enjoy it that much anymore. However, I was at the library last week and they have a room filled with books and magazines you can buy for very little and they happened to have the July and August, 2016 issues of CL so I bought them for 20 cents each. :-) Since I stopped subscribing years ago I'm looking forward to seeing how they have evolved.
My cooking style has changed so much since DH's heart attack that few cooking magazines or cookbooks work for me, but there are exceptions. My favorite cookbook by far is The Oh She Glows Cookbook by Angela Liddon. Every recipe has been a winner. I love it so much I bought her new book Oh She Glows Every Day which just arrived last week. I believe all of her recipes are vegan, but I have a dear friend who is anything but and she also loves this cookbook.

My favourite cookbook is also vegetarian (with vegan options) and I am as far from vegetarian as it gets. You might enjoy the Rebar Modern Food Cookbook, if you like vegetarian recipes. There used to be a love thread for this cookbook on the old CLBB. Might have to start one up over here now. 😄

I'm going to go hunt it down. As far as OSG's recipes, my friend loves the Maple-Cinnamon Apple & Pear Baked Oatmeal. In fact she's making it for her housewarming this weekend. She also loves the Crowd-Pleasing Tex-Mex Casserole as well as the Sweet Potato & Black Bean Enchiladas with Avocado-Cilantro Cream Sauce. The Taco Fiesta Potato Crisps are to die for and so easy! Also the Oil-Free Baked Falafel Bites are super yummy. The Lentil-Walnut Loaf is good but I personally think the Tempeh Meatloaf on my blog is better . And speaking of the blog, I posted the OSG's Present Glo Bar and it is the most viewed page on my blog. The bars are really good and the recipe is super easy. Oh the Quick & Easy Chana Masala is also delicious. Every recipe I've tried from her book has been great so far.

I love checking out cookbooks from the library (in print or for my kindle) -- and ok I have caved a few times over the years and buy the book if I end of loving it.

And oceanjasper the Quinoa Corn Salad with Cilantro, Chives, and Lemon-Lime Dressing recipe from the Rebar Cookbook that you posted on the CLBB years back is one of my all time favorites -- so a big thanks to mentioning that one. I've made it so many times. And, Julie thanks for the recipe suggestions from the Oh She Glows book! I copied those down since hoping to get the book from the library. I've been getting a bit bored with some of my go-to meals so using some new cookbooks will be a great way to add in some more variety.

Thanks, Oceanjasper. I haven't gotten Fine Cooking for a while.
Wallycat, beffore you donate books to your library, mmake sure you know what they will do with them. I was told ours would review used books and devcide whether to keep them or put them in the book sale. I was fine with that for the used books, but I walso talked to them about and donated new books to add to the collection, including one ai had checked out once, wanted to look at again and noticed it had been "lost." Between people not returning books and budget cuts from the year Texas officials couldn't do basic math, the once really good cookbook selection has dwindled. I wanted to help boost and restore it. As far as I can tell, none of the boooks I donated wound up on the library shelves. They don't even get my used books now. I hope other libraries are not as bad.

Well, drat. Missed the FC offer. Oh well, probably for the best anyway. I currently only subscribe to CL. I used to get America's Test Kitchen but I found I wasn't really cooking anything from the magazines. I bought their cookbook, transferred the notes from the recipes I had made, and passed on the magazines. I subscribed to Rachel Ray and Eating Well when they first came out, also Martha Stewart for a couple years but eventually let the subscriptions lapse. Being a family of two, I find CL generally has plenty for me to choose from, and if I need a bit of inspiration or something specific, there's always the internet and/or Pinterest. What I HAVE found lately with cooking light (since about Sept? Oct?) is I'm cooking my way through the magazine. I just got my Jan/Feb issue, and I'll be working my way through this one too. Yay!

I'm down to only a subscription to Eating Well, which has been pretty good lately. I make several things out of each issue. Not having too much to choose from is helpful. fewer magazines makes for better focus. I tried Fine Cooking for a while but I never found things I would eat in there, and then they did a peanut butter rating. (many years ago) I was so disappointed with their results, I stopped reading it right then. It's funny what can be a turn off sometimes. it was as if it hit me... no wonder I don't like their recipes! they like peanut butter with sugar in it! No wonder.
The newspaper runs a few food columns weekly. that has been a good source for me too. I haven't bought a cook book in years. I like the seasonal quality to magazines & newspapers and like to be reminded of what's in season now and what new things I can do with it.

Ooooh, I would love to hear results of this 'cooking my way through' magazine talk. I'm fascinated, in fact. If anybody ever wants to post results of a mag or book's list, holler and I'll be happy to see if I can come up with the INDEX of said book or mag. (I have my ways...sometimes.) SPEAKING OF WHICH...I found a Facebook page devoted to ONE COOKBOOK. They cook their way through. I'll have to post about that in another thread...since this is mag thread. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

So I really don't want to subscribe to any more magazines, but I got an offer for a year of Allrecipes, 6 months of Taste of Home and two cookbooks (Slow Cooker Favorites and Family Favorites) for $7. Now for $12, they double the length of subscriptions. I'm really considering this, even though the ones I already get I rarely look at. But they are so cheap.
