I'm making pies to take to my parent's house for Thanksgiving. My father mentioned how much he enjoys a rum sauce on spiced/apple pies. I have never made a rum sauce and I don't cook with rum often. I would appreciate any tried and true recipes or suggestions on the type of Rum to buy. Feel free to be detailed! Thank you!

I had this recipe saved because of the Banana Bread Pudding recipe. I had it at a cooking club dinner and it was great --- the recipe for the bread pudding had a warm rum sauce that was supposed to be served along with it. I don't remember if I had the rum sauce. www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/reviews/banana-bread-pudding-with-rum-sauce-509One of the comments was ... the rum sauce, which, like others said before, would do well on top of ice cream or any other dessert. It's more like a buttery-rummy sauce, like a caramel sauce with rum. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but thought I would mention. And sorry I'm no help with rum. Happy Thanksgiving!

Well I can certainly help with the rum part It's only 2 Tbl and since you clearly don't drink it, I'm assuming you're going to be trying to find a miniature bottle at the liquor store. Your first and best choice would by Myers dark. They do make a mini, but few places carry it. Failing that, most liquor stores should have Bacardi mini, and you'll want the darkest of those that they carry, which will likely be the golden. You don't want the light or white rum for this sauce. You also do NOT want the Captain Morgan's spiced--that's going to be overwhelming in this sauce and bring in lots of flavors you don't want.
