Hi everyone! I'm not sure anyone will remember me after all this time. I joined the CLBB in July of 2001 and only had about 1600 posts. I've been away from the chatting for a long time but I've visited a number of times when looking for recipes and advice. I logged in yesterday to look for a recipe and was surprised to see that they are going to close.
I know I should be finding and saving recipes but instead I've been walking down memory lane. I've been reading the old Friday Coffee Klatch threads and remembering how much I enjoyed them. Maybe bringing those back would be a good way to get to know each other here again?

I'm trying to remember when I joined CL but memory fails. I may take a trip down memory lane and find out before the board closes. Anyway, I'm not a frequent poster but do read fairly often. Thanks for this great board.

I am a CLBB member since 2001! A sometimes lurker with periods of activity - had 1000+ posts... I have learned so much from the CLBB over the years - in both recipes and advice. It's been a really long time since I've logged on to this board, and, as I did so today, was sad to see that it was closing.
Thank you to everyone active in opening a new opportunity for all of the old members to stay connected! I look forward to continued good recipes...

I was shocked to hear the CLBB was going away. The notice had been in my spam folder. I'd been on CLBB since 2005 I was BucknellAlum on the old boards but I hated that screen name so here I am as DecafPlease! I live outside Philly. One of my best CLBB was arranging a meet up of some local folks a few years ago in my area. Lately I'd been more of a lurker than poster, but I have a lot of memories of CL people and recipes! Gecko, aka Felice. I want to say I joined the original boards some time around '97, and they went through a re-design (?) and we all had to re-register around 2002. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii with my husband of 27 years, and I have four amazing daughters. The boards were a lifeline for me when we first moved to the US as I had two small children, my husband worked long hours and we had no family nearby. It was so funny back in the day that you could be friends with someone you had never met in person, but no it is so commonplace. I am an avid baker and have a baking blog that is a great hobby for me. I also have a bit of an addiction to magazines and cookbooks. Soon it will be Cookbooktober, so I am looking forward to adding to the collection. I was just clipping the remainder of old threads I wanted to save/reread and ran across one called "Our Oldest Member" in which I was trying to ascertain who'd been around the longest. Best we could figure at the time (it was then 2002), the boards had been created around 1998. Sounds like you may have taken the prize! Oh, but I'm being rude, not introducing myself (or reintroducing myself to those of you who may remember me). I'm Gail. I'm 63 and live in Southern California, a bit south of LAX. Best I can figure out (with the format changes and all) is that I joined CL's BB around March or April of 2000, slightly before they switched software in June, 2000.

Hi all! I am Sally posting as Zackaboo...which was my CLBB screen name for over 10 years. I haven't been around much in the last few years but credit the CLBB for many great recipes, a lot of wonderful advice, some amazing friends that I got to know in real life (including 2 supper clubs), and great companionship when we were moving around a lot and I didn't know many people where I lived at the time. We currently live in Plano, TX and I still have a passion for cooking. I don't know that I will post a lot but I am happy that this forum exists.
Just a note...I was on the CLBB this morning as it was still active but it looks to now be officially gone. So very sad. It is like losing a good friend.

Just a note...I was on the CLBB this morning as it was still active but it looks to now be officially gone. So very sad. It is like losing a good friend. I just saw that - boohoo. I noticed that Southern Living is still up. While I'm sure they're going to kill that board too, why kill CL's first since it was at least active. Anyways..... I'm mcgee, same as on CLBB. I became an official member in 2003 but had been a lurker long before that. I think I had sweaty palms the first time I posted something because I was sooo nervous. I'm thankful for this new board and all the hard work Bev and Catbatty have done in such a short amount of time to make it a reality.

It seems I have been a member of CLBB forever and I'm 93! I have a copy of the CLBB Cyber Kitchen Cookbook that some kind soul was selling for $10 and use it frequently - though now mostly browsing. I'm with Seronsong -way too many cookbooks! Now I am in an apartment with limited space - fortunately my daughter lined one wall of the entryway with bookshelves! Havent looked at that cookbook in a long time - now I see old friends Mamasue, Lindarusso, Valchemist - so many. I hope we can all stay together on the new board. madpots

I'm here as cafelatte as I was on the other board. I can't remember exactly, but I joined around 2002 but wasn't always posting a lot. I live in the Indy area now, having moved here a year ago with my DH. I have two boys, one a senior in college and another who graduated a few years ago. Looking forward to no more tuition/college costs - it's been 8 years!!

I used to be SandyM on the old boards - I thought I joined in 2000, but that's when Gail joined, and I'm certain I was after that. I've met many CLBB members IRL who have become life-long friends, and some on here that I have not (yet) met but still would like to some day. I'm 53, originally from the Buffalo area but I've lived in Michigan for 32 years GO BLUE!) I'm married for the 2nd time to the best guy on the planet. No children by choice, but his adult daughter has given me grandchildren, and they are the BEST. While I took a long hiatus from the old CLBB, I remember several threads fondly, and I'm sad I didn't save some of the more memorable ones - too many to mention. Thanks to the admins for setting this up.

Gail, I was probably the newest of the old group as there were quite a few members when I joined. I know that I was still living in Guam when I first joined. I can actually still remember exactly the room I was in, sitting down, and thinking should I or shouldn't I? Back then there were lots of stories about not using your real name, and as I was thinking about it a gecko chirped, and that is how I got my screen name. And as they say, the rest is history.

I saw that Hammster posted back at the CL site--it would be great if he joined us too. I learned a lot from him as well! I hope so, too. Talk about ripple effect--he helped me whip my Thanksgiving turkeys into shape, so now all of my kids will have my copious notes for that daunting first T'g turkey someday, plus when I was searching my old CLBB posts, I came across one where I had gone to someone's house (I didn't even remember that) to help her with her T'g turkey. I am still so grateful for Hammster's help after all these years.

Hi everyone! I am 44 and live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. I have been a member of the Cooking Light community since November 2003 using the same user name oceanjasper. I had subscribed to the magazine for a few years before I discovered the online community. I used to be quite active, but have since been caught up in life changes including the birth of my baby girl last week. I look forward to connecting with everyone here in this new forum. Take care!

I have enjoyed reading everyone's intros. It has been great to see some older (CLBB tenure old, not old old;)) folks too. oceanjasper, congratulations! I am Natasha here, on the old boards, and in real life My husband and I live in Canada and have a young son and an older dog. We love to cook and stay active (running, biking, etc) though with my son some days exercise is more about running to keep up with him, or playing soccer with him, than it is about a more conventional "workout" It's all fun though. On the cooking and baking front, I also haven't spent as much time in the kitchen lately as before, but hoping to do more in the fall and winter.

Beth here. Finally made it over. I thought about changing my name since I never really thought about it way back when. I think I most likely joined in 1999, possibly early 2000. We moved in Nov '98 and I beleive it was after that but long enough before the CLBB reformatted and everything was lost in 2000 that I was thinking "OMG!" Little did I know how much more would be lost 16 years later. IIRC, they gave us more notice then than they did this time. There was less to grab and we had at least twice as long to do it -- and they talked to us about it. Sigh
Melman, I wonder if they did an archive for their own purposes. I also dont' understand why they would keep SL up for so long with essentially no activity and take down CL -- unless it was beccause of the renewed activity and they just wanted it gone. I think it had more to do with effort and liability in keeping it running. They went through many periods of spam and hacking. I think it is less likely that any copyrighted materials posted were at issue (folks were pretty good about giving credit and recipes are such a difficult area to begin with - blogs and even Amazon (copied books with changed recpes that don't work) would be much bigger concerns. More likley that the BB was an vulnerable spot in their data network and put other Time data at risk. DH questions whether they were already hacked.
I think you all know I am the mom of two college men, both studying music. One has become a bartender and foodie too - the other one is finally getting past french fries and corn as the limits of his vegetable world. My nest is nearly empty and DH is nearly retired. He went to half time last fall and as planning on retiring next spring. He just returned from a meeting in which an arbitration was scheduled for next September, meaning he will need to spend about 3 weeks in Paris. I think retirement may be pushed off a year, but at half-time, that's manageable.
I'm in the greater Houston area, though outside the city. I have 2 large dogs (lab mix and border collie/retriever mix), miss having cats (used to have two and two before them) and have been tending Monarchs more than my garden lately (we built an enclosurwe to protect them from predators and released about 30 butterflies this week. I don't cook as much as I used to, thought DH and I joined a CSA, so my limits keep getting stretched. We both cook and can, I bake. In fact, I just volunteered to bake a wedding cake for a young girl and may have gotten myself in over my head (the family is doing a 3 girl birthday party in December and they have a very specific cake in mind. Not sure about that one.
Swedishcook, I used to live in a older part of Dallas. My house there was built in 1927. I love those older neighborhoods.
Good to see so many familiar faces here.

Hi Beth, southwest Houston here. So glad you are doing the Monarch thing; I have a very dear friend who is doing it and has lots of eggs/caterpillars to share and I can be a mid-point meet-up site. I had 60 or so cats all going here the last couple of weeks and have released 30 butterfliles in the last week or so. Things were especially busy just as the BB was coming down. That was one of three time sensitive and time consuming things taking all my time. I still have chrysalises and two that just hung to change today. A few more cats still munching and butterflies laying eggs. We aren't goin to be able to feed many new cats, so I hope these butterflies will be moving on. It is time to migrate. A meet up would be fun, but I don't need more mouths to feed right now. I am planning on planting some more milkweed seeds and having more plants for spring. Maybe I will be able to pass along some young plants then.
