My avatar is of Bandita, lone female from a feral litter of five that we rescued in WI...she is now 11...she wishes we had no other cats in the house! I'm Andrea, and from the Chicago area. I joined the CLBB in 2002. Prior to that, I didn't do a whole lot of cooking. My mom bought me a subscription to Cooking Light one year though, and I got really into cooking after that. I never thought it would happen, but I eventually stopped making CL recipes for the most part, and I now cook mostly from Fine Cooking, Bon Appetit, Food Network, etc. If there is one good thing about that board closing, it is that I no longer feel guilty about using that board while not subscribing to CL or making many CL recipes anymore. Here I feel more free to post about recipes from any source.

Soupandstew, Pat, 68, Houston (Go Texans!). I joined in 2011 and the CLBB is still one of only two forums I participate in. This board helped me discover my love of cooking. Like Andrea, I haven't subscribed to CL in years and stopped even looking at their recipes although I have many CL pages in my binders. Hubby and I are owned by Dewey, a 12-year old Maine Coon cross with a personality as large as his 18-pound body

Sugarbetty, Heather, 35, living just outside Boston. I joined the CLBB in 2005 as a newlywed non-cook. Ten-ish years later (and two sons) and I'm known for my cooking skills and recipes (thanks to all of you and your knowledge.) I read more than I post.

Hi -- I'm Alicia AKA gobluem82 (I'm a University of Michigan alum). I'm 56 and live in the beautiful Hudson Valley area of New York with my husband. One of my kids just graduated from college and the other just started his junior year (at Michigan!!) so we are mostly empty-nesters. I retired almost a year ago and love having the extra time for volunteer work, running, tennis, and of course, trying new recipes! Thanks to Catbatty and everyone else who worked on getting the new board set up!

Erin, here. I live in NE OH. My parents own a certified-organic veggie farm so I have access to great vegetables though I do have to help in exchange for them I joined CLBB in 2003 and just resubscribed to the magazine. I still get Bon Appetit and go through cycles of getting Cook's Illustrated, Cook's Country, etc. Still go through my mom's Food Network Magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray, Better Homes & Gardens, etc. What can I say? I like my media the old-fashioned way. Also love visiting Daily Waffle and Smitten Kitchen.

mrswaz (Erika) checking in from NE Wisconsin.
Member at CLBB since 2002 with 4700+ posts. But if I'm remembering correctly, many of us were on the boards longer than that. Wasn't there a re-boot of the forums along the way where we lost all our information and basically started over?
Anyway, I'm thrilled to have found the gang over here! I've bookmarked the site and I will give a shoutout on my blog for any old CLBB members who pop in from time to time. But of course, it will also be wonderful to welcome in any newbies along the way. So exciting to be a part of something new!
I've been food blogging for over ten years now, though not much as of late. My beautiful babies are now 16 and 12 1/2, though my 12 year old is inches taller than me and eating me out of house and home! We're still homeschooling, and my kids are competitive dancers, so I'm a dance mom and all that goes with that. I've also passionate about vegetable gardening and manage two 500 sq. ft. garden spaces in my free time.

I still get the magazine and started a Supper Club with a couple of friends, one of whom I met through CLBB. I am really glad I will still have a place to meet and share ideas with a wonderful group of people.

Testkitchen45, checking in. I can't remember when I joined the CLBB, but yes, there was a reboot--I just skimmed through my old CLBB posts & nothing pre-2009 is still there. Am trying to regain my cooking mojo (it's slow going) after several years' worth of being sidetracked by Life Happens; I'm so appreciative to catbatty & anyone else who is getting this new board going. Looking forward to using & contributing to our new site!

I'm Leslie and I live in southern NJ on a farm by a small river. I don't know how long I've been here because I was locked out in 2014 and had to re register. All of my posts were deleted and except for a couple of cases where someone else quoted me in a reply, it was as though I had never existed on the board. I'm retired as a psychologist but I still paint - portraits and local and French scenes. I love cooking, especially French country recipes, and go to France as often as I can. I get several French recipe feeds via email, as well as the NYTimes cooking updates. I subscribed to Cooking Light briefly and more recently to America's Test Kitchen, but I don't get any cooking magazines now. I comb the web when I want to try a new recipe or ingredient, and I use Paprika on my devices.

YAHOO IT WORKS! Joanie b/ Joanie B here! Officially my CL registration says 2005. But I was one of the earlier boarders, back when it was quite active, who got locked out during some weird board snafuiness and had to re-register I guess around '05. Born and raised in NC, Tar Heel basketball fanatic, love to bake, have an embarrassing number of cookbooks THANKS TO THE CLBB, and have stacks of old CLBB recipes printed off. I gave up CL when they reformatted the magazine, just wasn't a good fit anymore. But I never gave up popping on to check the CLBB for reviews and new recipes and ideas, so many ideals. Retired from UNC 5 yrs ago and thought I'd have so much more time to cook and bake! Have a hubby for 41 yrs, a 3 yo male cat that is going to give me a stroke due to his behaviors, and I remember so fondly when my Sweety girl left us 4 yrs ago, soo many of you were such a comfort. No kids, but have a beloved nephew who is son-like who loves my baking. Became a Le Creuset cookware fanatic THANKS TO THE CLBB (and our local outlet, whew!).
The board has been such a MAJOR part of my cooking life for sooo many yearsn, I truly cannot imagine not being able to search for fave recipes or even my own (quicker than digging thru a pile of paper). I'm sure someone has asked about them just archiving and leaving stuff even if they shut down commenting. Oh my. Btw, I have a notebooked copy of the old 2004 board "CLBB cyber kitchen cookbook," if we can figure out how to share it!! It's about 1 1/2--2" thick!
So very thankful many of you will continue on here thanks to quick thinking by those who got things going on the new home!

Hi, Melanie here....joined CLBB in July 2000 and have 5,369 posts! I'm very disappointed CL can't bother to archive the BB. I think it can be done. It's really a shame to lose to much valuable information.
I can attribute at least a portion of my cooking enjoyment to CLBB or the magazine itself. If nothing else, I learned various techniques, learned about products that took forever to be found in my local stores (had plenty of trips to Atlanta and Charlotte that included shopping at grocery or kitchen stores), and got advice (or offered advice!!) on countless subjects! I joined in on many holiday swaps (and reusable bag swaps...anyone remember those? :-)) and can still remember where I got quite a few things that often pop up during the holiday season. You guys helped me plan quite a few of my annual Bunco meals! So far, those are the only threads that I've snipped here and there.
Oh, and on 9/11/2011, I learned more (in a timely manner) about what was going on by refreshing the CLBB forums than I learned from the national news. Many of you had information long before it was broadcast nationally. I was extremely thankful to everyone posting. (I have a friend whose daughter was in NYC that day. I was able to provide updates to her from CLBB than she was getting anywhere else. It was a huge peace of mind to her as the news unfolded!)
I'm very sad about CLBB going away, but at least thanks to everyone involved with setting up this site!

Joanie - I sure hope you can figure out how to put it up too...there were some really good recipes in that book!! I had a copy and somewhere through the years I lost it...is there anyone who can provide some assistance in getting this up and shared? Please?....

So glad for the opportunity to continue the BB in this new forum--thank you catbatty and BevE. I joined the bb in 2004 and did more lurking than posting. I enjoyed reading discussions but mostly found that what I would have added, had already been said...I guess I didn't visit often enough. I live in northeast central Florida, not too far from the ocean...hence Beachside. I have tooooo many cookbooks--thanks to the enablers on the clbb I still enjoy cooking but don't cook as much since my DH of 42 years passed in 2011. I am a cancer survivor--in remission for 16 months from stage 4 melanoma--and so grateful to still be around to make new friends, do some cooking, and find a new passion--quilting. Recently I started volunteering for breakfast preparation at a local hospice care center...not much cooking though, but I am glad to do that. And yesterday I bought another cookbook.

Hi everyone! So happy we're all still together. Julie from VA and S. Florida, 61, member of CLBB since 2001. I subscribed to Cooking Light for decades until DH's heart attack which completely changed the way we eat. The people on the board have helped me countless times with everything from a recipe fix to sharing info on a serious medical condition. Or just giving comfort when I needed it.

VAcooker here....member of CLBB since 2006. My kids were so little when I joined and now I have one in college and one in high school. Gosh, where did the time go? I lurked on the BB more than I posted but in the height of the BB's popularity, I checked the board multiple times per day. I too own lots of cookbooks that I never would have thought to buy were it not for the BB. And of course there's the Le Creuset. I blame that on the BB too! ;-)
It's funny that when I first joined the CLBB, I only joined to ask a specific question on a recipe that I had wanted to make and I had not intended to stay. But then Canice responded to my post so kindly and thoughtfully, that I decided to give being part of a BB a whirl. I miss Canice! I remember what an amazing writer she was...
I think I will miss the Thanskgiving threads the most because I used to prepare the entire Thanksgiving feast for my extended family all by myself (well DH deep fried the turkeys) and there's no way I would have had the confidence to do that without the support of the other CLBB members. I remember when we would post updates on what we had made and what still needed to be made for our feasts. It was comforting and nice to feel part of such a great group of cooks, all trying to do our best to serve our family and friends great meals.
I also remember looking forward to reading ChristyMarie's New Year's Eve party threads--she made some fabulous sounding meals. I wonder how she is doing?
I am so grateful for this site and I hope more CLBB'ers and others join. I saw that Hammster posted back at the CL site--it would be great if he joined us too. I learned a lot from him as well!

Gecko, aka Felice. I want to say I joined the original boards some time around '97, and they went through a re-design (?) and we all had to re-register around 2002. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii with my husband of 27 years, and I have four amazing daughters.
The boards were a lifeline for me when we first moved to the US as I had two small children, my husband worked long hours and we had no family nearby. It was so funny back in the day that you could be friends with someone you had never met in person, but no it is so commonplace. I am an avid baker and have a baking blog that is a great hobby for me. I also have a bit of an addiction to magazines and cookbooks. Soon it will be Cookbooktober, so I am looking forward to adding to the collection.
