Interesting. But my question becomes why? Because it's a hot day, you want to make pizza but the thought of turning on the oven to maximum is totally unbearable? Not sure I see the allure. (but I'm open to learning.)

(but I'm open to learning.) That's my thought exactly. It takes longer to do it this way than in the oven. Also, doesn't the crust get soggy? The pictures do look good though.

Those were both my first thoughts, so I watched the links. In the second one, the woman makes the crust thinner and cuts it on camera. You can hear that it crunches. (surprisingly) If it does that also on the deep dish, perhaps it has some merit-- though if I have a working oven and it's not a hot day, I'd be far more inclined to go that route. ...but maybe there are other merits we're missing.

Maybe if the oven is broken? I can't see a time when I'd actually want to do this, but I'm filing it away in my brain as something that could be done if needed. Though, a pizza the diameter of a crock pot wouldn't even make a dent in my tweenage son's belly, let alone our family of four.

... a pizza the diameter of a crock pot wouldn't even make a dent in my tweenage son's belly, let alone our family of four. Especially if you have a crock pot the size of mine (I'm guessing it's got maybe an 8 inch diameter maximum)

I agree! Not every recipe is for everyone -- so I pass by the recipes I don't care for. Using a slow cooker to make pizza interests me, for many reasons. If I feel a recipe has no merit, etc., etc., etc., I don't bother. I shared a few different videos and methods to compare, as well as a link to Pillsbury's site for a deep dish pizza. I like that the dough is folded in half and pressed up the sides of the cooker. I have a Rival programmable slow cooker that I like, and used for about the last decade or so. It does get hot, so I adjust cooking time. Keep in mind that it is a SLOW cooker recipe, and wouldn't expect food to be ready in 1/2 an hour. Again, if I feel a recipe has no "merit" or doesn't interest me, I move on. Apparently, one can cook bread in a slow cooker, as well. I'm always open to new cooking ideas. Hope you give it a try. calcook, I still appreciate the posts. As you said, all recipes are not for everyone. I don't personally don't use my crockpot much, or keep it out, so it just seems like more trouble to make pizza in it. However, interesting you mentioned making bread in it. I didn't know that. I know you can bake a cake in it, but again, not something I have done.

SaveSaveOh dear, I hope my post didn't come across as anti "pizza in a crock pot". It's not something that makes sense at this stage of life, but there was one time where I was making pizza for dinner and the oven quit working. I ended up doing grilled pizzas, but this would have been a fun way to use some of that pizza dough too. If I was cooking for one, I would definitely try this.

And it's less a matter of a recipe not interesting me than it is a matter of honestly not understanding the benefit in preparing a pizza in a crockpot. In a crockpot the size of the one I have, it would be out of the question-- but I understand that the vast majority of crockpot users don't own one that's Hobbit-sized, like mine. Anyway, I'm not trying to be contentious in any way, simply trying to gain a better understanding of some of the reasons for using a slow cooker in this case. I think the other posters were trying to understand as well. No one, I believe, is ever too old to learn something new. I hope you'll forgive us if we sounded like we were being critical and share your points of view with us as to what about this method for pizza making happened to spark your interest. Inquiring minds DO want to know.

I was finally able to view it. I prefer thin, crisp crusts, so odds are a crock pot won't work. I can see where having to run errands and needing a few hours vs. minutes with the oven can lean someone towards the crockpot. Always enjoy viewing posts/recipes, even if they don't immediately apply to me because it gives fodder for tweaking future recipes!

With 2 pizza stones, a pizza steel, deep dish in a cast iron skillet and also in a spring form pan, a baking box for the grill and 1 attempt at a wood fired pizza, I don't really need another way to cook pizza, but I wouldn't say never. It strikes e as something that would appeal to the dough-intimidated -- or for folks who don't have an oven. We take that for granted, and it is standard in Amerrican home kitchens, but ot everyone has one. And they can go out and be a while until the replacement arrives. Or something safer for a kiddo to make than working with a 400- 500 degree or more oven. -- or you get creative when remodeling a kitchen. It does look good, and my crock pot (a larger oval one) would probably be okay for DH and me. I do hope that anyone who tries this will come back abd post about their experience. I'd like to know how it works.
Maybe my avatar should be a pizza? LOL

It's never too late to read a thread!! LOL Thanks for sharing this video, Calcook!!! I think it's a cool idea! In fact, I am now HANKERING for that pizza! We travel often in a motor home. This method would be FUN. I had never EVER thought of something like this! It sure looks delightful! (I might make my own crust. I also like to buy dough at our local market...they sell it...yes, the dough in a ball. For motor homing, I think the purchased one in the video would be great, too!!! I can't wait to try this.) I love new ideas and ways. And I would have passed right over the thought of it had it not been for the video you included. I'm "in" now, too. I might even do it at home. I am beginning to think that my Instant Pot is the most useful (and used) thing in my kitchen! When my hubby goes off back-packing, as he does so often for a week at a time, I might use my Instant Pot's slow cooker feature to make a pizza! What fun! Thanks again. You always come up with interesting ideas!
