Earburns--Is there a way to have people notified that they've been quoted,
Whenever you "Quote" someone (click on the 'Quote' button, instead the 'Reply' or 'Quick Reply'), if they have
set up their Notifications to be notified, then they will be notified. THEY have to desire the Notifications; you cannot push Notifications to them.
a way to reply just to one person without quoting, vs. replying to the whole thread?
Not sure if I understand this clearly... if you are reading a particular post and you want to reply to that person's post privately, you'd have to send them a Message. There are two things available to help you do this efficiently.
1) On THEIR post, look to the far right for the little cogwheel icon and click on the little triangle and from the pull-down menu, choose 'Link to Post'.
-- A window will pop up and show you two links.
-- Use your mouse to select the text from the bottom link labeled 'Link to only this post', and copy it (I use 'Ctrl-C' [hold down the Ctrl key and leave it down while you hit the C key with another finger], or you can right-click the selected text and choose 'Copy' from the menu).
2) Again, on THEIR post, look to the far right for the little cogwheel, click the little triangle and select 'Member' , then move your mouse cursor over and click 'Send Message'.
--You will be taken to the message composing window, already addressed to the user.
--Start typing your private message to that user and when you want to indicate what post it is that you are referencing, you can click on the 'Link' button on the edit toolbar.
--A window will pop open with two fields. In the Text field, delete the text that's there and type something that makes sense in the context of your message like
your post about the apple pie and in the URL field, delete the text that's there, and do a Paste (of that link you copied a few seconds ago; to Paste, I use 'Ctrl-V', or you can right-click and choose 'Paste' from the menu).
--Finish typing your private message and scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the lower right click 'Create Message'
On another board I'm on, if people reply to you directly, whether or not they quote you, you get a note in your inbox (here, it could appear on the "participated" drop-down).
You will get that note (in email and/or Forum Notifications) if your
Notifications are set up to tell you when you have a Personal Message.
You can also type a user's name in such a way that it creates that earburn. For example, if I had a question for Beth in the middle of my reply to you, I could tag Beth in my reply & she'd know she has been called to the red courtesy phone.
This is called 'Tagging'. See this
TIP.
Recipe titles--This is a suggestion, not an enhancement, but at least on my screen, the boldface isn't very bold. It's wonderful when recipe titles are written in all-caps; makes it easier to pick out the recipes in a thread or a long post. Just food for thought. (I'm still figuring out the formatting, & will try to remember to all-cap my own recipe titles.)
Sounds reasonable... perhaps think of leaving the case normal (Camel Case, I believe it's called - ups and downs) and use a color to make it stand out. Some people don't want their recipe titles in their recipe programs all in uppercase.
To format with color easily, first make sure you are using the "full editor" (don't use the Quick Reply box; instead, click the 'Reply' button), then
--use your mouse to highlight the desired text
--click the rainbow-colorwheel icon on the edit toolbar and choose the color for the text by moving the vertical slider to the hue you want (which color of the rainbow) and then click in the colored square to pick the intensity of color you want).
Thanks again for all you do!
Happy to help! Love all the great discussions here!
ETA: I just got an unrelated message & was notified thru email. Do we get a pop-up over here, as we did on the CLBB? Or maybe a notification on the "Participated" box? (I can't tell b/c I already opened my message--but I don't think I had notification here.) -- UPDATE: I accidentally moused over my username & got a drop-down notification box; I think I used this on Day 1 but forgot about it. Oops. Not firing on all cylinders today.
Aha ! You found it!! Just run your mouse over that username on the upper right from time-to-time while you are on the forum. You should also review your
Notifications settings in your Profile to make sure you are getting all the Notifications that you wish to get.
