TIP - for those who might lose electrical power - It's called *The One Cup Tip*. Put a cup of water in the freezer. Freeze it solid and lay a quarter on the ice. Leave the cup in your freezer. If you have been hurricane evacuated, or have been on vacation. can visualize if the food thawed and refroze, or if it stayed completely frozen while you were gone.
If the quarter falls to the bottom of the cup that means the food defrosted and you should throw it out. But if the quarter is either on the top or in the middle of the cup then your food may still be OK. It is a great idea to leave this cup in the freezer permanently, if you lose power, for any reason. use this tip.

Great tip about using a quarter to gauge whether the freezer has lost power at some time--that would have been great during Matthew--like cookieee, I had never heard of this. Thanks!
