I read somewhere that Instant Pots don't replace SLOW COOKERS or CROCK POTS...because the sides of the IP don't heat up.
SO, I picked up a big, red, Rival Crock Pot at a thrift store ($12)...and now wondering what I'll make (that will be mostly vegetarian). (We also have a smaller one that we used to take in our now gone Tiffin motor home. Used it once while camping. Think that was back when we ate chicken and we did make something chickeny that was successful.)
I'm excited to now have this big one. (I am so nuts.) It thrills me to think that I can have something going in it and STILL be able to use the Instant Pot...which gets a daily workout pretty much.
I recall that back in the really old old old days, we used to be able to leave in the morning and come home to wonderful things hot and ready for us in the Crockpot.
But THEN, I believe, the makers changed the models to some other heat level...(trying to recall now...it's escaping me)...they made them cook FASTER -- right? So, they no longer could be counted on the cook slowly all day. (Fire risk??)
Anybody remember? I am hoping this red oval Rival will be like the old days. (No, I won't leave it alone and go off. I've read that, espcially with used ones, you have to be careful that way because you never know - the previous owner might have immersed the entire thing in water...and mucked up the unit to where it might not be safe to use.) I think mine looks like it's barely been used...but I'll stick around anyway when it's in use.
Anybody still using a Crock Pot? Any good ideas for recipes? (We mostly eat vegetarian...with some bacon at times...thinking about buying some boneless ham...it's been a long time. Doc says to stick with meatless. We don't eat seafood or fish. Love spicy.)
Garden is bursting. Can't wait to make some good stuff!
Hmmm... I could get out both slow cookers and make some sauces...and them freeze them! LOVE sauces!! OMG, I love food.
