I've never done it. If it were me, I'd cut portions and microwave those. My favorite way to make ham these days is to boil it. It gets rid of a ton of the salt and makes it plumper and juicier because in theory, it's been brined.
Editing to add, I assume you mean a traditional style ham and not a country ham. I've only had country ham once and not sure I did it any favors.
