*sigh* My laptop died this week and I lost ALL my files. So many files. All my lists of books and meals and presents and poems. I am heartbroken. So, I don't recall what I had in August! But, two recipes.
Delish. I added a bit more broth and cooked some ramen noodles in it before adding everything back.
This was good, but did not appear like the picture or description. My filling was not a filling--too thin. And my cake was not at all dense--really good cake. The star was the frosting though--amazing. Not too sweet.
I hope you all had better months.

I'm so sorry, Erin. Do you know any techie people that can "find" lost files? Did you back anything up in a cloud or external drive? (probably not from the sound of it). Best buy has a geek squad that may be able to do that stuff...how dead is it...did it have blue tooth?
The last day of August, I made a wonderful enchilada sauce that I used to marinate venison neck, then shred the meat and use it for tacos. I wish I had written it down; it was my best sauce to date.

Thanks, wallycat. I IMMEDIATELY took it in for repair, but the guy said I had a bit lock on my HD that prevented anyone from recovering any files. I had no idea--must have been a factory thing. What's funny is I always backed files up on a USB when I was using my work computer for personal stuff and then when I got let go I got my own laptop and thought "Hey, it's mine!" Plus it was only 2 or 3 years old. But going to do it now! Also funny: I might have one of the old USB drives still around so I might be able to get really old stuff, but not new stuff.
Anyway, I love enchiladas and never make them! Glad to hear it was good even if it was a one-off recipe.

Erin, that must be SO SO frustrating. So sorry this happened to you. I haven't been keeping track of my recipes lately but I recall a few good ones including the following: Cheesy Eggplant Zucchini Bake-Claire Saffitz. Layers of eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, herbs, and cherry tomatoes with cheese. Light, filling, seasonal and delicious. www.bonappetit.com/recipe/cheesy-zucchini-eggplant-bakeMutabal-Baba Ghanoush "like" eggplant dip from Milk Street Kitchen Homemade Fig Newtons-Cookie Madness (found some figs cleaning out the freezer!). Tasty but not an easy recipe to assemble. Monster Cookie Bark-Cookie Madness (made as part of care package for peanut butter loving child #2 and sneaked a few back for me!!) Cheesy Marinara Beans-Eating Well. Good flavor but very "saucy" and that was not necessarily a bad thing either! Fruit and Nut Energy Bars-I don't remember source but a moist chewy bar with lots of oats, dried fruits, and nuts bound with a lot more peanut butter and honey. And yes, I also add chocolate chips! All of the following were from Milk Street Kitchen which I made for some dinner guests. They were all delicious but the chicken, eggplant, and potatoes were exceptional. The zucchini salad and tomato salad were also worth repeating but did not hold up as well as leftovers which was not to surprising: Jerusalem Mixed Grill Chicken Spicy Lebanese Potatoes Egyptian Harissa Eggplant Tomato Salad with Pomegranate Vinaigrette Raw Zucchini Salad with Chickpeas and Tahini Yogurt Raspberry Walnut chocolate chip Rugelach-this was dessert with some fresh strawberries and ice cream but not a Milk Street recipe. It was Cook's Illustrated.
