I love the idea of cloth vs paper towel but I also worry about how often/how much I'd have to wash stuff and the health of my septic.

We use 12x12 dishcloths for most kitchen cleanups. But I opt for a dark color (dark green) so that stains won't show as much and I don't have to bleach them to get them to look clean. A dishcloth hangs over the sink divider and is washed out in the sink with dish soap whenever used to wipe up something gross so we aren't creating a lot of extra laundry.

I will be interested to see how these white ones hold up to stains. So far, we haven't seen any. Green is smart. (For some reason, I associate the white ones with professional look and they blend right in so go pretty much unnoticeable. I am very very happy using them. Even now, I have one in front of me on my table holding my coffee. I never thought I would love a WASH RAG look...or use...but I do. For some reason, these just delight me. Well, they might anyone who is married to a person who inundates counters with WATER like mine does. He is a peices/pieces.) Catbatty We use 12x12 dishcloths for most kitchen cleanups. Catbatty Three of my kitchen walls are yellow and one is green, so the green works well in my kitchen. Our dish towels are white and after trying to keep them white for a while, I gave up. They are clean, but they are also stained because they also get used to wipe up messy counters and hands. Dish towels live on hooks under the sink so it doesn't matter so much if they are stained. Since the dish cloths are out in view, the green works for me. I'm the one in our house who makes all the puddles and messes on the counter. LOL. I am looking forward to the day when we do some remodeling in the kitchen and I get a deeper and undermounted sink. But even that will probably not contain my water spillovers. I think I got the 12x12 dish cloths after knitting some cotton dish cloths but we didn't like the feel of them and the cotton yarn took a very long time to dry.

I am so tempted to try cloths and cut down on my paper towel use. I see Consumer's Report gave a good rating. I am hesitating due to reviews that say the lint is excessive and fraying. Has this been a problem for anyone who has bought this product?

I've only washed once or twice, so far. No problem. Came out like new. I wonder if that person got a bad batch? These look like good quality to me. Wonder how that person used them? So far, we've only used ours for kitchen countertops...mostly water and some veggie bits. Pure white. (If they don't last for years, I won't mind buying more.) I really like these. I was impressed that my husband, once again, pulled off a good one. (This month he also bought a new, small freezer to replace our dying one and I love it! Usually I am the one to make the main household buys. Guess I can stop being such a control freak, yes? LOL He does good!) Catbatty I am so tempted to try cloths and cut down on my paper towel use. Years back I wanted to cut back on my paper use (and to save money and cabinet space!) --- so I started to use cloth napkins. I think that is a super easy way to start with cutting back the paper. I just toss the cloth napkins in the wash with my laundry load. I think it has been at least 15+ years. And I actually get to use those pretty cloth napkins that I hardly used (the ones that I saved for having people over).
I still use some paper towels for big messes (cleaning up after working with chicken etc, but try to use cloths/rags etc as much as I can ---- especially for simply wiping down the counter. I just haven't figured out what to do with the cloth if wiping up a mess, like messy spills, since I don't do laundry every day.

This thread inspired me to buy 2 pks of the Quickie microfiber cloths. They are in the kitchen and I've only used 2 paper towels, which is a huge cut in usage for me. DH is going to have to be trained on this. Slow and steady....
