Started 2022 with TWO Excellent recipes! That's an auspicious beginning
Excellent
1/23 Blueberry Biscuits (CC April/May 2021) SO good. Would adjust a tad: a little sweeter? A little more salt? Amazing texture and lovely browning.
1/1 Chocolate-and-Vanilla Pudding Cake (MSL 12/21) Delicious and fairly easy and make-ahead. My buttercream—overbeaten? Underbeaten? IDK, but was still tasty.
Make Again
1/28 111 Words on a Bubbly, Cheesy, Oniony Dip (BA 11/20) Delish and easy. Used shallots and garlic, cheddar.
Good
1/20 Easy Cinnamon Bread (KA/VaCooker) Tasty and easy, just don’t love cinnamon chips.
1/9 Buttermilk Marble Cake (NYT) Sweet. Nice texture. Needed parchment in bottom.
1/9 Keema with Peas and Rice (FNM 10/21) Definitely needed the oomph of the lime.
1/15 Sweet and Spicy Pecans (Alton Brown) Really good spice mix, but I didn’t like the pan roasting. Used fresh orange peel in with the sugar. Make again, but try in oven then stovetop?

I made all tried and true recipes in January. The only new thing I made was during the snowstorm last weekend - Bon Appetit's Best Bolognese Sauce. Paired with homemade pappardelle, it was wonderful!

I did not keep track but I just wanted to mention one that I made this past week that was really really tasty. It was based off the following 2 recipes. I put together grain bowls with the miso salmon from Milk Street over cooked farro. I mixed some of the leftover miso glaze into the farro and then made some soy braised baby bok choy to go into the bowls with a bit of edamame leftover in my freezer. Then I topped the bowls with a creamy sesame vinaigrette I made, some hot sauce, some pickled red onions and crushed up sesame crackers. IT WAS DEEE-LICIOUS!!! www.177milkstreet.com/recipes/miso-glazed-broiled-salmonwww.foodnetwork.com/recipes/miso-salmon-grain-bowls-12178358

These are from Dec.-Jan. I only tried a couple of new recipes – until our granddaughter came to town and cooked up a storm. She’s vegetarian. My recipes, both Very Good/Keepers: Quick & Easy Chinese Chicken and Broccoli www.melskitchencafe.com/quick-and-easy-chinese-chicken-and-broccoli/*I reduced water to 2 cups, as Mel suggested, for a thicker sauce *I added a few dashes of cayenne for heat Cranberry, Feta and Roasted Walnut Salad www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/118/Cranberry_Feta_and_Roasted_Walnut_Salad49810.shtml*I used romaine and green leaf lettuce (4-5 cups) and cut back on cranberries (to save calories) Granddaughter’s recipes, Excellent/Very Good: Spaghetti Aglio E Olio - a perfect recipe www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/spaghetti-aglio-e-olio-recipe-2043225*We made one batch using Sprouts “vegan Parmesan” and another batch using real Parmesan cheese. Both were great. Vegan Pasta Salad with Creamy Lemon Tahini Dressing - This was a favorite plantbasedrdblog.com/2021/06/vegan-pasta-salad-with-creamy-lemon-tahini-dressing/Roasted Cabbage Wedges with Onion Dijon Sauce – Very tasty anoregoncottage.com/roasted-cabbage-wedges-with-onion-dijon-sauce/Deviled Chickpea Bites- pretty and delicious www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/deviled-chickpea-bites-from-thug-kitchen-party-183048578.html?fr=sycsrp_catchallWe love a kale salad recipe from the New York Times. But the dressing is kind of plain. I wanted to try a new dressing recipe from Mel’s Kitchen Café; it goes with her Crazy Good Kale and Wild Rice Salad. My GD and DH dislike wild rice, so we didn’t make Mel’s salad. We made her dressing (which was awesome!) and put it over the NYT kale salad. So, try Mel’s salad or try her dressing or both! WILL REPEAT:*Coconut Milk + Crispy Cauliflower = A Dynamic Taco Duo (used only part of the recipe--the cauliflower crispy balls or bites) AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN - we watched on tv and dh said: to heck with the tacos, I want to make those Crispy Cauliflowers and just eat those. So, he did. He used milk instead of coconut milk. He used Panko and a bit of our own bread crumbs, too. He forgot to put the coconut into the panko, so he just sprinkled on half of them before baking. Daughter was here and inhaled them. Left a few for me. Good. (I made several dips to dip them in.) www.americastestkitchen.com/articles/4284-coconut-milk-crispy-cauliflower-a-dynamic-taco-duo*Lemon Meringue Pie - Alton Brown - Good Eats episode - (WE HAVE ENJOYED THIS PIE TWICE! I WANT TO CUT BACK ON THE SUGAR IN THE CURD JUST A VERY WEE BIT NEXT TIME...OR NOT. IT'S GOOD AS-IS AND NOT TOOOO TERRIBLY TART AS SOME RECIPES ARE)
for the pie dough, we use King Arthur Whole Grain Cookbook, Whole Wheat Pie Dough, page 444 ON REGULAR ROTATION (ALL ITEMS BELOW):*Polenta aka Cornmeal Mush (made in 6 quart INSTANT POT)www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/instant-pot-polenta-5449734(we don't add Parm and often only butter as a topping and not in the mixture as it cooks) FROM - KING ARTHUR WHOLE GRAIN COOKBOOK:*Whole Wheat Pie Dough, page 444
*Classic Apple Pie, page 444
*Carrot Cake, page 419 (always cupcakes)
*Chewy Oatmeal Cookies, page 314 (often add flaked coconut)
*Sugar and Spice Drops, page 325

Your fav recipe there gets RAVE reviews, even from folks who change out the meat to make vegan. www.bonappetit.com/recipe/bas-best-bolognese?mbid=synd_msn_rss
I'm going to try it! Thanks Reb.
