I am nutty about Amazon for books, ebooks... cookbooks and art books mostly.
I just did something...I wonder if I will get slapped or bombed. I fell madly in love with one gal's reviews...and I responded to one of her reviews that mentions her bread making perfect bread in a certain pan. I said I would love the recipes AND THEN I ADDED OUR FORUM URL HERE...inviting her to come here.
I wonder how Amazon will take that? I wonder if NOT HER people will come here (for good or for bad). I'd be THRILLED if she joins us.
Let's see what happens. OH BOY.
So, do you love Amazon? Do you buy? Do you go there to read reviews?

Could be good; could be bad. Hope not a lot of spammers.....
I have a love/hate relationship with Amazon. Just returned something because it was a fake (olay complete spf15). Now it is making me second guess a lot of stuff I purchase on there. Read a review that people were selling fake sports-named clothes. Why must people use their skills for evil.
I buy if I have no other option, otherwise I try to avoid them like the plague. My first clue I was losing "the love" with them was when I see them charge double and triple for stuff.

Wallycat, I often wonder if some items are the real thing given the price (often when I'm looking at higher end hair products). Also for items, especially those perhaps not super popular -- I wonder how new/fresh it is. I've received a few items that had a shorter than usual expiration or best by date and returned them (or in some cases they just credit me). Was the Olay shipped from another vendor? How did you know it was fake? I've seen examples when bottles of items, not even close to looking like the real thing. I hate that people are some dishonest that they sell that crap. Catbatty, I order from Amazon -- in fact I just got a box yesterday. And it is sure is convenient and sometimes the price can't be beat or they have an item (say a color of sneaker) that I can't find elsewhere. I don't have prime so I always wait to get to over $25 to get free shipping. But I do try to order from other companies too but sometimes its just so easy since they sell pretty much everything -- it sometimes seems to me that Amazon owns the world and I don't like how so many businesses are being hurt/closing etc. Ideally I would shop locally but sometimes it is just great having a big bulky item shipped to your door. And I don't want to trek all over my city on public trans to get something that I need if super inconvenient to get there. And, I will say their customer service is great. The other thing for me, is just the waste of ordering online --- the boxes, energy to ship/deliver, packaging. All that waste and environmental impact plays a role -- so I'm trying to be more selective on what I order online in general. I'm far from perfect with that. I live in in a large apartment building and the amount of packages each day is mind boggling. I do read the reviews, but like at so many places online, I wonder if they are all legit (some often seem just a bit sketchy just by the wording). But I have certainly tried products that were new to me based on the reviews, and many times have been quite pleased.

Applecrisp, the top on the bottle was rectangular; olay uses (for the spf15 complete) round caps. Everything else looked nearly perfect. Since I am using it for the spf, I wanted to make sure that is what I was getting. It was "from Amazon" which I took to mean amazon vetted them. Clearly not. It could have been from a different country and still fine, but then, why not SAY that!
A price example was for a greenworks handheld vacuum. I bought it at 49; a few weeks later it was listed at 89. Really??!!!! for months it was listed at 89 and just yesterday, the price is 44. You wonder if someone is selling refurbs without disclosing. Again, nothing wrong with that but just TELL US! grrrrr.

Thx for the info. There is some shampoo that I wanted to get online, at a decent price, but some said it was a fake, Who knows if they are right, but not worth buying it. I know the price for some items jump around, even many times the same day. All those weird algorithms I guess. I was looking at hand held vacuum and it dropped by a good bit -- it looked like they just price matched what Target was selling it for that week. (total aside, I've seen on Nordstroms site that they mention that they just price matched x item). I've used the camel camel camel website before (a free Amazon price tracker, monitors millions of products and alerts you when prices drop, helping you decide when to buy). You just paste in the item info and say you want to be notified if the price gets to $100. Then they send you an email alertl. It is also interesting to look at the graph they have for that item showing the price fluctuation. I think almost all of the items I wanted to price watch, they handled.

Wow catbatty! Let's see how it goes. I love Amazon because I save money - gas money - and whatever price I put on my time. By now I'm sick and tired of searching all over for the products I want just to find that they've been "phased out". My standing joke is that I've bought everything - like underwear, food in cans or boxes, generator, things for the kitchen, prescription free medication and of course innumerable books. We have a Prime membership since several years back. Not everyone is enchanted by Amazon, but it works for us.

I've used Amazon for books, toys, and things like that. I've heard that there are problems with the beauty products (hair products are not the same quality as those purchased elsewhere) and recently heard that people had problems with dog food purchased through Amazon (we recently adopted a shelter dog, so I was interested in purchasing). So far, I've continued to buy food from the pet store.
