DH and I decided to have a party on the 21st, just drinks and heavy apps, probably 30-36 people. Friends and I are driving the 2 hours to Trader Joe’s the week before and I want to buy some food items from there for the party. Any suggestions??

Love your kitty avatar. Mine are pretty basic ideas....cheese (love, love Huntsman (layers of stilton and cheddar); jars of black olive tapenade; I bought an interesting pumpkin seed salsa last time I was there but not sure if that's seasonal; chocolate covered coffee beans and their huge Belgian chocolate block. I'll be curious to see others' suggestions.

I buy a lot at Trader Joe’s but probably not what would be considered party food. DH does love their Restaurant Style White Corn Tortilla Chips w/Lime but they’re a little too salty for me. I’ll have to give this some more thought as I’m going to be heading to TJ’s in a short while.

If you want to set out little bowls of nibbles they have a snack mix out right now that we like called, “Step Up To The Snack Bar” mix.

I had the vegetable samosas at a friend's and they were good. I LOVE the Some Enchanted Crackers. The prices on the nuts and dried fruit are good. It would be really easy to do a cheese tray with all the accoutrements. I have not heard a bad thing about any of the TJ's freezer products. You could also check out the Daily Waffle blog or Instagram page--she reviews TJ's products.

I would peruse the latest fearless flyer and see what seasonal items they have. I was so happy to finally get a TJ's here. Cheeses, marinated artichokes, olives, all that kind of stuff is so much cheaper than at our regular grocery store. The only freezer product I ever got from TJ's that I didn't like were the crab cakes, but that really isn't a party item since there are only 2 to a box. I would make sure to go at a slow time. Here that is usually in the morning during the week (or during a Hawkeye game - ha), so you can browse. A TJ's run is on my agenda for tomorrow for Christmas.

Well, we took the 2-hour trip to TJ’s, filled 2 coolers and many bags, and are now set for a couple of months. Can’t wait to move back where there is one closer!
Anyway, the Vegetable Samosas were awesome! I also bought a chutney (mango, I think) and they disappeared. I also bought veggie “nest” things (kale and carrot strips in a nest shape, very flavorful and crispy), bacon wrapped scallops (the hungry locusts took care of those quickly), as well as marinated artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, and other such things. I bought coconut shrimp at Sam’s (Sea-Pac brand) and was unimpressed, but their Franks-in-a-Blanket were crowd pleasers as always. I did get lots of cheeses at Aldi’s, too, and crackers. Too much food, but that’s what Christmas parties are for!
Thanks for your suggestions!!!
