Cooking Light is merging with Eating Well! There will still have separate on line areas...and Cooking Light will become a “special interest” publication that comes out several times a year available at news stands... it has been around since 1987...I have had a subscription since about 2000...I guess it hasn’t been quite as interesting for quite a few years but I still enjoyed looking through it every month... if if you want to read about the change you can do it HERE (unless I did something wrong!)

Wow.
I have preferred Eating Well over Cooking Light for years, but I still enjoy my issues of CL. I currently subscribe to both, so I wonder how that will work?

That's quite a change but it's a tough market and industry.

That is very interesting. I am an Eating Well subscriber long term. I dropped CL when they did their major change several years ago, and dumbed it down. also felt I didn't need multiple food magazines. not even sure what is still out there in print. now there are all the niche mags for the ketogenic people and anti gluten people clean eating people etc. I have dropped most other mags due to diminishing content, like Sunset. I recently extended my EW subscription for another 2 years. I still enjoy a print magazine especially if there are articles about food related topics and not just pages of recipes. I had not heard this, so thank you for posting.

I hadn't heard about this change. I think I gave CL a try once since the big change and let it go again, but I have been a long time subscriber to EW. I hope they keep the quality of EW and don't junk it up with the mess that took over CL.
Thanks for the update

I've been a bit behind on reading posts and just saw this thread. Wow! That's interesting news.
I was an early subscriber to Eating Well when it showed up in my area, then dropped it and continued my Cooking Light subscription (also since about 2000). I had a Cooks Illustrated and Rachel Ray subscription and dropped those too. Mostly because I realized I can only cook and eat so many recipes in a week/month, and I seemed to gravitate to CL more often than not.
I was there for the Big Change that CL did, and it didn't bother me overly much - I knew it would change again. Lately, I've been really happy with CL and the recipes they've been offering. I think I made 8-10 recipes out of the Sept issue?
It'll be interesting to see what happens - I liked Eating Well, I like CL, hopefully that means I'll like what comes out of the merger. I guess I'll find out in a couple of months.

The one thing I'm not excited to read is the mention of the advertising space in EW in its current format. One of my favorite things about EW has always been that the advertising seemed so much less to me. It definitely was less intrusive to my enjoyment of the magazine. With CL there has always been pages upon pages of ads. Crossing my fingers that Eating Well will not be ruined by this merger!

Same here. I will drop EW if they follow the CL revamp model.
