I've had these Crate & Barrel glasses for years (the large size). They wore great, no breaks, chips, look brand new until... Just recently I noticed what looks like a really light blue'ish line maybe an inch or so from the top (maybe its how the light hits it) on a few. Could this be hard water stain or? What is strange is that I see that faint color only on top (kind of where the water is poured up to). I only noticed when I was putting away the glasses. I usually use Finish dishwashing tabs, but for the last few months, sometimes used Cascade tabs just to use up. Any ideas?. Time to get my eyes checked or ? I'm going to try some vinegar to see if that makes any difference. Thx.

Did you add a finishing rinse? Maybe it has been there awhile but you simply noticed it this go around.
Maybe something else you had in the dishwasher put a mild tinge on it and will wash out the next time (red cabbage, blueberries).
Love the glasses!

Have a dozen of the short, wide ones to the right and love them. No problem with those - yet. However, another set has occasionally shown that sheen on the rim. I just place the glass upside down in a small glass bowl with vinegar for a while and that does the trick. The "why" remains a mystery.

Thx Wallycat. I'm not sure why some of the glasses look that way. I didn't add anything new. I've had them for years and I really like them (sans blue tint : ). And I can't tell you how long I looked for a good everyday glass that felt good in the hand/good weight.....
swedish cook -- i'm hoping the vinegar does the trick. It is weird that it is only on one part of the glass (about an inch or two down) --- which is where the glass is often filled to. What am I drinking. Ha. I'm with you -- I really like the glasses too
Thanks again.

Well the vinegar didn't work, but I might give it another try on a glass (perhaps it needs a longer soaking).
I did add some rinse agent just in case that would help (and might have been low/empty).
I just noticed it on some of the glasses a few weeks back but perhaps it just got really noticeable them. I did some searching online and some mention hard water and that filming can be removed, but sometimes can be permanent etching, perhaps low temp of dishwasher, and read that your dishwasher detergent actually works better if you don't rinse off all your dishes, but I'm not sure if this is relevant -- since they are referring to cloudiness and I'm not sure if that is same. But I have a feeling it is -- just etched now? Still weird on where it is.
It seems strange that it is just a "stripe" and inch or two from the top and my other glassware seems fine (all my pyrex storage bowls, ball jars). swedishcook, I've had that sheen on the rim on some old small pyrex bowls, but never this random stripe.
I was trying to insert a pic that I took from my phone but it has no IMG address or an address to copy once in my "photos" on my computerr (or at least what i can see). I'm stumped. I do see a long address stuff when I preview in m email. I'm thinking it needs to be saved to a photo program. I know how to insert a pic form online, just copy image address info, insert.....
thx

Can't help you with picture. Never masted that art. Thinking of the long CLBB thread "Picture I took today". Have you tried using a plastic mesh scourer after the glass has been soaking in vinegar overnight?

I think it is permanent. I did take a look at the reviews on the Crate & Barrel site (I just sorted by those not satisfied since overall it got rave reviews) and few commented on the cloudiness, but no one said they had a weird stripe of it.

Hard water etching sounds different than what you describe. I have no clue what the blue line would be from - are all the glasses like that? Is it possible they were always like that but you never noticed? Maybe it's the tint of the glass? I can't see finish rinse cause a discoloration and if it did, I would think it would be all over. I'd try soaking with some bleach rather than vinegar, since that didn't work. You should call C&B and see if anyone else had that issue. Strange.
