Our toaster is dying. Anyone have one they love? I did a Google search and the Breville 2 slice toaster gets good reviews. Not sure I want spend that much on a toaster but I do love Breville appliances so I’m tempted.

Wish I could buy a toaster. My husband pooh-poohs the idea. To him, the Breville oven we have...mini oven...whatever it's called...is good enough for toast. Well, yes...it's fine. But I think it's a bit messier. Crumbs on the bottom removable tray, crumbs on the door. But getting a toaster would be one more thing to sit on the counter. I do love the oven, however and almost never use the big oven anymore. You MIGHT want to think about the portable oven...Bed Bath & Beyond carries. The newest one, ours, has some interesting settings...bread proofing, air frying, etc. I've done neither so far. BUT TOAST I'VE DONE! Good luck finding your toaster. It's so fun to buy things for the kitchen, I think!! And Breville makes awesome apps. Let us know what you get. FUN!

America's test kitchen rated a dirt cheap one as #1....let me go look what ours is...
Proctor Silex. This was at least 9 years ago so maybe newer products out there; for the price, worth finding. If you care I can locate the model number tomorrow (if they still make it).

Thanks Wallycat but please don’t go to the trouble. I think I had a Proctor Silex years ago but don’t recall if I liked it or not. I’ll check them out though and read some reviews.

Following.
We're looking at a new house, and I'm not sure I want to take the toaster oven along. I'll have slightly limited counter space, and I think it would be more convenient to have a regular old toaster to pull out from time to time. We might keep the toaster oven in the basement as a back-up to the oven, but I also have a Nu-Wave oven, so it may be time to just part ways with the toaster oven.

Catbatty- I don’t really have room for a toaster oven. Years ago I had a DeLonghi toaster oven that I loved for everything but toast. I lived in an apartment that had a crappy oven so used it almost exclusively but I had to have a regular ol’ toaster for toast .

I have a Breville which for the most part I love everything about it, but.....one thing. Love the way it bakes, broils, toasts etc... Love that I can fit a pizza pan and a 9 x 13" pan in it as long as the pan does not have handles. That is especially great in the summer when I don't want to heat up the house with the big oven and also now that all 3 of my kids are in college, it is convenient since it is just DH and I most of the time. The ONLY thing that disappoints me about it is the on/off button. I think I may have gotten a defective one and probably should have taken it back when I got it years ago, but now it is too old to return. I sometimes have to push the button what seems like a gazillion times to start the toast cycle. And it is super sensitive it seems as if I hit it the wrong way or too long or who knows what, it turns on and off immediately so I have to try all over again. I have threatened for years to get a new one, but it is hard to rationalize as it works great in every other way and while this may be a nuisance, it is a minor one. It is difficult to shell out that kind of money for a toaster again unless it were really "broken" so my toast sometimes takes an extra 30 sec. as I battle to start the cycle!!

Didn't see this sooner and I am guessing McGee may have a new toaster already, but for those who may follow, I will go ahead and post with apologies for not seeing this sooner.
We have the Breville 4 slice toaster that has 2 long slots. We are on our second one -- the first lasted about 10 years. The newer one has a "Little bit more" feature that goes for an additional 30 seconds so you don't have to put down the toast for another full cycle and risk getting distracted or forgetting it. I really like that feature, and I have really liked both toasters. We use the bagel on one sided toasting a lot too. I was in Sur la Table and told a couple how much I liked the toaster. I even had a picture of an evenly toasted slice of bread I showed them -- something I had recently taken because of what I think was a toaster discussion on the CLBB. We laughed about how funny that was that someone actually had a photo of their toast on their phone -- but they bought the toaster. And the saleslady gave me her employee discount on a coffee maker. LOL
Seems so many things that serve a basic function have gotten so much more expensive if you want one to do the job well -- toasters, vacuums, blenders, etc. But if you need one, you want a good one.

LOL Beth - we still don’t have a new toaster. Our old one is still hanging in there. I’ll definitely go back and take a look at the Breville. Thanks

Thanks for the link. It is odd about the price difference. I better buy it now.

I would -- may get one for my son who just graduated from college and starts his in service training tomorrow. Toast or an English Muffin with a little peanut butter were about the only things I could get him to eat in the morning and that's a good price. I might have a $5-10 reward too.

To add another perspective---I have a toaster oven but have never liked the way it does toast. (I should probably get rid of it--about the only thing we use it for is to melt cheese on cheeseburgers, and the occasional cheese dream.) My husband was amused/annoyed when I announced I wanted to buy a separate toaster. I bought a 2 slice Dualit which I LOVE LOVE LOVE---it toasts beautifully evenly, has wide enough slots for fat bread (or for when you're doing BLTs and want to put 2 slices in one slot), you can do a second round immediately without waiting for it to cool down, and it looks great. But I am dismayed that they seem to have discontinued the model I bought (which ran around $75 iirc) in favor of one styled more akin to their bigger models, and which runs $200- $300!!! They do still have a less expensive model ($115) but I hate the look of it. Boo.
This is the one I have, only in black.
