I'd like to get a tote that will help keep foods cold after grocery shopping. I don't have a car and typically try to head right home (if not shopping at a place real close by) in the warmer months. A thermal tote isn't always needed but could come in handy on super hot days an/or when I would like to do another errand/stop after. Only an issue of course is when I have perishables (and you know, melted fro yo is not a good thing).
Americas Test Kitchen rated this the best, the Rachael Ray ChillOut Thermal Tote. When I do a search almost all of the places were out of stock/not avail any longer (Target, Jet.com, Amazon 3rd party only and out of stock and the red was $99). And other places were selling it for even more $. The bag prices I saw (but sold out ) ranged from about 15-25. ETA: best so far, on Ebay from 18 (or best offer plus 10 ish shipping), others priced $300! I'm thinking it is no longer being sold, perhaps just getting rid of old inventory. The "shop" section of the Rachael Ray site being worked on (did check the stores mentioned that sell her products).
I used google shopping and just a regular search, bizrate etc. Any more accurate ones that would show truer inventory? I've had the same issue when looking to buy other items. Do you have a favorite ways to search for items?
Before I buy one, I was wondering if you have a thermal bag that you like? I haven't been that pleased with the few I've had before and ended up not using often/donating etc. I used one today and it was just ok. I don't want something really big or bulky -- I don't think it keeps things as cool unless quite full, plus, I have to lug the food home.
Thx.

mcgee, Yes that's the one. Yesterday Amazon had some at a super high price, so I'm glad (and surprised) that they have restocked today at a more typical price. Too bad no black available, but no big deal. Thanks!

I love these bags. I got them when they first came out--living in WI in a summer swelter, even a car is marginal with a/c blasting and frozen food. I think I got Sam's club at the time since RR wasn't available. Costco has one now that is poly inside. We got that for hauling the fish we catch. Maybe I'll revisit RR products in the fall, when prices may come down. I think I paid $10.00 for mine. edit: this is what mine looks like but it wasn't RR. www.amazon.com/dp/B0074ZTSSY/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Wallycat -- Luckily Amazon had them back in stock and I ordered on for $15.99 (free after my visa reward points!). I saw it at a few other places for around 12- 24ish but they were sold out or they had only orange (ha). I decided to just grab it before it sells out again. Some of the prices on Ebay etc were completely bizarre.
The bag I bought is just like the one that you mentioned, but in a smaller version (more of a shopping bag size). The one that you linked is 23.99 in red and 99.99 in blue (third party). Huh.
I walk or take the train to do shopping, and like you said -- a thermal bag really comes in handy. It will be here on Thursday, maybe I need to try it out and buy some mocha chip fro you, just to see how it works.
Thx.

I have a growing collection of Whole Foods cooler bags. I don't do a lot of shopping at WF, but to me, these bags are worth a trip to WF. They are sold in the stores for about $8. Super sturdy. I've gone through tons of different grocery and cooler bags over the years and these are by far my favorite. I now use the WF cooler bags for all of my groceries since they are so sturdy. Tip: I attached a carabiner to the handles of one of the bags. I stuff the other bags inside that bag and then clip the carabiner on to the grocery cart handles. (These bags are also perfect size to use as a carry on bag for a motorcycle helmet. When we went to Italy last fall we packed our helmets in these bags.)

And, interesting use of thermal bags (nothing like a muliti tasker).
