I'm buying some cookbooks for a foodie. What are your 3 favorite cookbooks? I would love cookbooks with reliable, delicious recipes.
I would probably choose the Cook's Illustrated cookbook, Ina Garten Home, and The Smitten Kitchen cookbook.
Please share your cooking/baking books too!

Hi Sugarbetty! I'm going to move your thread to a part of the board where we talk about cookbooks quite often. I LOVE TALKING ABOUT COOKBOOKS!! Sounds to me like your choices are three of the most wanted books/authors out there! Tell us about your friend. What kind of cooking does she or he like most? (OR, is the person a foodie Eating person, or a foodie Cooking person. LOL) I know that Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day - the first one they published - works well because a friend and I have both used it with success. That might be a fun surprise cookbook...especially if the person has always been a bit afraid of bread. Or are they into healthy/healthier food? They might enjoy The King Arthur Whole Grain Cookbook. My husband has made several recipes from that book. He keeps going back to it.
It will be interesting to hear other ideas from members to cook or bake a lot...and more about your friend.

Two names come to mind, Mark Bittman and Dorie Greenspan. I have copied many of their recipes from websites and used them with great success. Because of limited shelf space I do not buy cookbooks. The few times temptation got the better of me the books were then given away or sold.

sugarbetty --- The first cookbooks that came to mine were already mentioned --- can't go wrong with ATK, Ina Garten or Smittenkitchen.
And I'm with swedishcook on Mark Bittman and Dorie Greenspan. I think Bittman's How to Cook Everything is a great resource.
A newish cookbook that I'm enjoying is Small Victories. I never heard about it until Sallyt mentioned it on the boards.
I haven't used it in awhile, but I do like Skinnytaste cookbook.
A cookbook that has been getting raves (here and elsewhere) is The Food Lab. It was the the New York Times bestselling winner of the 2016 James Beard Award for General Cooking and the IACP Cookbook of the Year Award.

Another book I refer to often that has not been mentioned esp. if your friend is/leans toward eating vegetable based meals is Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking For Everyone. Besides Cook's Illustrated which has already been mentioned, another basic resource/classic is Joy of Cooking. For baking, I also like any of the King Arthur Flour Books, esp. the whole grain book. For bread, I turn to Artisan Bread in Five books frequently. Another vegetarian book I love is Moosewood Favorites.

I like the French Le Cordon Bleu Series ( available also in English & Spanish) .. Another I am very fond of is: The Heritage Of Spanish Cooking .. I'll have to look these up! Thank you, Margaux, for resurrecting this thread. I *still* love cookbooks and *still* buy constantly...most from thrift stores and sometimes used from Amazon sellers. (Had great luck with those.) Rest I get from library (hard copies and also ebooks). I also find some free ebooks online and save those. (I use a free program called Calibre for saving and opening and viewing and for copying from ebooks.) I CANNOT GET ENOUGH BOOKS!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if these 2 have good recipes YET...but they sure intrigue me! Tomato season is almost here...and we grow em, so:Tomatomania! (Appears to have everything you ever might want to know about tomatoes, plus beautiful phones and artwork PLUS recipes!) www.amazon.com/Tomatomania-Approach-Celebrating-Tomatoes-Kitchen/dp/1250057280/ref=sr_1_1Tomatoes: A Country Garden Cookbookwww.amazon.com/Tomatoes-Cookbook-Jesse-Ziff-Cool/dp/0002553430/ref=sr_1_3I will share some recipes from these two soon.
