I plan on trying this next time we have steak. We don't have a smoker since we aren't huge meat people, but do like the taste of it from time to time. You place wet wood chips in a pack of foil, and dry wood chips in another pack of foil. Seems easy.
Has anyone used similar or other methods? I guess I could buy a smoker box, but this is a way to try it without purchasing anything else (besides chips).

I have a smoker box but this actually looks easier than using it, with less cleanup to boot. I like the idea of having a second package of chips ready to use for longer smoking items b/c adding chips to the smoker box is a pain

That's what I thought, looks easy and no mess. I plan to try this on the weekend, if it doesn't rain. I bought some chips already. Do you have a preference for wood chips?
