Does anyone have a T & T cutout sugar cookie recipe that can be used with a cookie cutter that has designs within the cutter (like eyes, mane - think my little pony)?
There are many recipes out there, but I need it fairly soon so I don't really have time to experiment with many recipes. It has to be one that will not puff up and will hold the shape fairly well and then be iced.
Thanks in advance.

I have one I've been making for years (every Christmas). It makes a large batch though, depending on size of your cutters, but well worth it. The cookies are flat and turn out great whether you make them thicker or thinner. larger or smaller. Instead of rolling them in flour, I roll them between sheets of parchment paper. I also line my baking sheets with parchment paper.

Sugar Cookies
Recipe By : Serving Size : 120 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories :
Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 5 cups Flour, All-purpose 2 tsp. baking powder 2 large eggs 2 tbsp. milk 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 cup Butter -- salted, at room temp. 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
Mix flour and baking powder. Beat eggs, milk and vanilla with a fork in a small bowl until well blended. In a larger mixer bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add sugar and beat at a high speed until fluffy. Add egg mixture one third at a time, mixing well after each addition. At a low speed, add flour mixture one fourth at a time, mixing until blended. Dough should be fairly stiff. Divide dough into 4 pieces. With palms, shape each piece of dough into a ball and flatten to an inch thick round. Wrap each round in wax paper and chill 2 to 3 hours.
Heat oven to 375 F. On a lightly floured board, roll out one piece of dough 1/4" thick. Place cookies 1" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 - 10 minutes. Makes about 10 dozen.
Yield: "10 Dz"

I got the recipe I use from another site, but this one sounds the same -- including the comments on rolling between parchment before chilling. It has worked great for me and hass a nice buttery flavor.
This recipe can make up to 5-dozen 3″ cookies.
No Fail Sugar Cookie – NFSC Ingredients
2 cups unsalted butter 2 cups sugar (white granulated) 2 eggs 1 Tbsp vanilla extract or desired flavoring 6 cups flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt Instructions
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees F (176 C) Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Mix dry ingredients and add a little at a time to butter mixture. Mix at low speed until flour is completely incorporated and the dough comes together. Chill for 1 to 2 hours (or see Hint below) Roll to desired thickness and cut into desired shapes. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 350 degrees F (176 C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until just beginning to turn brown around the edges. HINT: Rolling Out Dough Without the Mess Rather than wait for your cookie dough to chill, take the freshly made dough and place a glob between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll it out to the desired thickness then place the dough and paper on a cookie sheet and pop it into the refrigerator. Continue rolling out your dough between sheets of paper until you have used it all. By the time you are finished, the first batch will be completely chilled and ready to cut. Reroll leftover dough and repeat the process! An added bonus is that you are not adding any additional flour to your cookies.

Here is one that we have used for the last 40 years (or more)...it is good tasting, does not puff up and is easy to work with...and simple... Grandma Helen’s Butter Cookies
2 sticks butter
1 ¼ cup sugar
3 eggs beaten
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
Mix all ingredients until well blended. Chill. Roll out and cut out shapes, bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned. Remove from sheet and cool on rack.

Bump - such a good thread. who doesn't want a great sugar cookie recipe? i remember, as a kid, putting baking SODA instead of POWDER in mine one time. learned THAT lesson well. THANKS to the people here who have shared their favorites! And thanks to Keba for starting this thread.
