What presents did we receive for the holidays this year?? Eh?? I got a surprise birthday visit from my daughter, on the 21th. She brought presents! A bit of candy, some perfume, lotions, other lovely things. She was in Oregon for a few days, traveling around, then flew back to RI...a long ways away. My son brought his daughter (8) over for a morning visit and present openings. DH and I don't do presents for each other, but for my birthday we have a tradition that he breaks down and takes me out to eat and then tolerates a trip to the Goodwill. In fact, over two days, I got him to hit TWO Goodwills with me. Such bliss. And Powell's Bookstore!! I bought myself: The Messy Baker; More Than 75 Delicious Recipes From a Real Kitchen, by Chramian Christie which is a book I borrowed from the library, bought ebook of too, and just HAD to have my own hardcopy! Same situation happened to me over The Seasonal Baker, Easy Recipes From My Home Kitchen To Make Year-Round, by John Barricelli (owner of SoNo Baking Co)--a couple weeks before Christmas. YES, YES, I want to bake my way through BOTH of these drool-over cookbooks!!!!!!!! (drool-worthy?) SO, people: What did you get as holiday gifts? Any COOKBOOKS?? WHICH WHICH? Gifts or did you buy them yourselves?? Anything special happen? If so, we want to hear IF you care to share.

A surprise visit is the best present!
The only gift exchanging we do for Christmas is a family yankee swap. I got a great very fine mesh strainer.
A few days after Christmas we got a new dishwasher and on NYE I got a new car! Also yarn and needles for a few knitting projects.
Got the Heal Your Gut Cookbook (a GAPS diet cookbook) to help with a new client and the new Whole30 cookbook for me.

From DH, I got a new DSLR camera and tripod so that I can take pictures of baby girl who is already growing up way too fast. Now I just need to figure it out!
I bought myself the newest Skinnytaste cookbook and meal planner, along with the 5-blade spiralizer from Paderno. It should arrive by the end of the week.

I bought myself a goose-down-filled pillow and an all silk filled pillow. We bought a chromebook (costco) and LOVE it.
That's about it since we will have roof issues to contend with and my dental angst continues.
Happy New Year!

DH bought me a Sauce Master food strainer for making tomato sauce and applesauce. I've wanted one for ages, but could never bring myself to actually purchase it- just in case I end up using it once or twice and then disliking it. It will be a while before I can put it to use though.
I also received the All New Ball Book of Canning and Not Your Mama's Canning Book. I love home canning, but have been stuck in a rut. These two books have all new recipes, and even better, they have recipes for using your home-canned goodies.
Not food related, but I bought myself a brand new sewing machine Christmas week. I've been using an old one for years, and have gotten into making dance costumes for my kids (and sometimes their friends). I was working on my daughter's solo costume when my old machine suddenly stopped working. I did every troubleshooting thing I could think of to do and realized it needed to be serviced to fix the problem. So instead I ordered a new Brother Project Runway machine of Amazon. Holy wow, I had no idea what a newer sewing machine would be like to sew with. Unbelievable.

Mrswaz, wow, a sewer. Never got that skill. Your home-life sounds wonderful and warm/fuzzy! I forgot, I also got a silk pillowcase.

Well, on New Year's Day I broke down and bought myself the Cuisinart 13-cup food processor with spiralizer and dicer. Today I finally got up the courage to look at it closely-it has soooooo many parts it was pretty intimidating. Upon closer inspection it wasn't completely overwhelming and I'm going to try out the adjustable slicing blade and spiralizer on dinner veggies. We didn't exchange gifts really, just bought the DNA kits which we still haven't opened and returned. At this rate, we'll never find out our ancestry!

Update on food processor. While washing prior to use the large/medium/small feed tube assembly slipped out of my hands. It hit the floor and shattered like glass. Now I have to try to purchase replacement parts from Cuisinart. Major bummer. I hadn't even used it.

I would call Cuisinart and let them know as no pieces on itshould shatter like that. Also, if you made your purchase with a credit card, most have benefits that will cover anything that happens within 3 months to a year. I recently saw a segment on the news that reminded people to familiarize themselves with what benefits their cards offer (purchase protection, extended warranty, auto towing, trip insurance, etc). You might want to call them. I've made claims with Amex in the past on a computer with hard drive issues after the warranty ran out. They paid for the cost to repair. Also when DS's phone was stolen from his locker that was broken into at school years ago, I was able to get the cost of the phone back after I made a police report. Here's some basic info. www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/purchase-protection-benefit-survey-2016.phpwww.nerdwallet.com/blog/credit-card-benefits/purchase-protection-credit-cards-cover-belongings/

I planned to call Cuisinart today but today had other plans for me (1 hour meeting became 3, etc.) so I'll try again tomorrow. DH did point out in his aggravating logical engineer way that the large feed tube was still usable so I can actually use the processor pending new parts. I needed sympathy more than logic at that particular moment but you have to pick your battles.

Even if I've loudly sworn off cookbooks, there was still one that DH realized his wife needed. (Shared Amazon wish lists are a beautiful thing.) - Classic German Baking by Luisa Weiss. That book has "everything" I'll never let go of this treasure. I received more books to keep me turning pages for quite some time.

It might not be worth filing a claim for something that probably shouldn't cost a lot to replace (but probably does cost more than it should). I'd still call or email Cuisinart. Maybe they will send you one complimentary. Worth a try. I'm still baffled that it would break so easily, rather than just crack.

I called Cuisinart today and after 25 minutes on hold (they are really overloaded with the blade recall issue) the woman took my info and said someone would call me back in three business days (maybe next Thursday) with a price quote. At that point I can order with credit card. Unless it's a gazillion dollars, I'll just pay and wait for a month to receive. I agree that it's surprising that a part should shatter like that. Surely I'm not the only person with a stone or tile floor in the kitchen??? Oh well, all's well that ends well even if it costs a few $$$
