I have a LC dutch oven and a LC braiser and think they are great, they both have the cream interior. I don't have any Staub cookware. Yesterday on smittenkitchen, she posted about some of her favorite kitchen purchases this year and one was a Staub braiser. I clicked on the Williams Sonoma link just to see the pan in more detail and no surprise they had a bunch of different cookware. I've seen many of the pieces at the store, but never really considered them, largely because I really don't have the room regardless of brand. But in full disclosure I am tempted to get a LC skillet, I'll admit it. So if you have a Staub how do you like it, and if you have a LC too, do you prefer one over the other? How they cook, cleanup, sturdiness .... Any big difference with the different interiors? Or are Staub and LC basically the same, I'm thinking both good products, both made in France,LC just seems to get more attention. And does it boil down to preferences, preferences in terms of style, look, need, and maybe even color for some? I know some Staub pieces have those self-basting lids (with those bumps) that some prefer. I was just curious on what people thought of each brand. Here's one that looked interesting and at what seemed like a good price. It is a 4 qt for $112. Some might not like a glass lid. They have braisers that look similar but with the enameled lid. And here's the smittenkichen post. smittenkitchen.com/2016/12/chocolate-caramel-crunch-almonds-new-kitchen-favorites/thx.

I also only have LC. It was cheaper than Staub and basically the only difference I noticed eons ago when I was deciding was that Staub had little ribbon like ridges inside the lid. That was to help moisture drop into the pan when things were braising. The cast iron I got from Costco has them, so I don't know if it was commissioned by costco via Staub. In any event, between that pan and the LC, I see very little difference. The glass lid you are showing in your post is interesting. Would make the whole thing lighter. I think the other thing was that Staub had a dark interior coating while LC had the lighter one. Easier to know what is cleaned or how things are producing a fond with the cream colored interior.

CaffeLatte, thanks so much for the qvc info. Wallycat, I've heard good things regarding Costco's cast iron -- but my only access to Costco is when visiting family. I don't know about lugging them on the plane. Ha. That's not going to happen, but if I'm ever in a local Costco I'll keep a lookout. I'm going to see if one of my glass lids fits on top of my LC buffet dish, that could come in handy on cooking some dishes. Still 2 LC and no new adds. I'm going to pass by a LC outlet tomorrow -- willpower needed. Thanks!

Some things are not available in the store and I do check them whenever I am looking for something. Recently they had some overhead garage racks on sale and we ordered them, free delivery. I just checked and they have some cast iron on there. www.costco.com/CatalogSearch?keyword=cast+iron&pageSize=96You might be able to get someone who has a membership to order for you if there is something you want. In some cases, it might be worth getting membership for short term use since Costco says they will refund it if you aren't satisfied. Just a thought.

I'm going to pass by a LC outlet tomorrow -- willpower needed. You've definitely come to the wrong place. I have both Staub and Le Creuset, and despite the seemingly huge differences of interior (LC ivory & smooth; St black & a little rougher, with dimpled lids), I really don't care which one I grab at any given time--I pick based on what color I feel like using & what size I need, honestly. Saw a gorgeous Staub 4-quart in bright cherry red at W-S yesterday, but I resisted. Don't need it. Generally, I think the two brands are pretty interchangeable for whenever you want a super-heavy pot for longtime heat retention, instead of stainless steel. Go for the best value/price & best color & size, & don't worry too much about whether it's Staub vs. LC. Sure, you can see the bottom surface better in the LC, but that's really only an issue with very few recipes; it's not as if Staub is a black hole where you can't even see your onions. Post back w/ pics! (Notice my confidence that you'll fall down this rabbit-hole.)

cafelatte -- I could certainly use my parent's card info and order online (to get the better price, access to more things) -- that is something to keep in mind in general. Thanks!
testkitchen45 - That is what I was thinking, that they are both really good products. I have 2 LC pots, a 5 1/5 qt dutch oven and I think its called a buffet pan (about 12 inches). I wouldn't mind something smaller, but really could certainly do without it. Well i was near the outlet today, so temptation averted. Thanks for the feedback/comparison.

Well, applecrisp1, not to enable you or anything, but all cookware is 25% off today only at W-S--including small Staub in many lovely colors. Just sayin'.

Talk about enabling!... the Costco link I really didn't need to see. I have 2 dutch ovens but one is so old the handle isn't heat proof. I have an outlet mall nearby that I know has had LC . wish I could see and feel the Costco version. It looks nice and the price is good if the quality is. Never saw them in the warehouse.

My only complaint with the costco one I have is the handles are not big/wide/long enough. Harder to deal with (solid handles) with oven mitts. Otherwise, love the pan! Looking at the link, it shows the handles look more like the LC, which is great. The price for the one I got (6 quart) was about $59 in the warehouse.

Was it any time recent Costco had dutche ovens t in the warehouse? on line I believe it was $99. still not a bad price but $59 is better. they also show a grill pan and frypan. I need to outfit a new kitchen next year and I'm trying to be smart about it and picking up essentials when pricing is good.

I'll be going to one again this week and will check, but that doesn't mean all of them have it. I have 2 stores that I go to and see things at one that the other doesn't have. I tend to rotate which store I go to as they are about equal distances.

If you're not stuck on the Staub or Le Creuset brands, Sam's has Tramontina enameled cast-iron Dutch ovens in stock. They look like 5-quart ones, in lots of pretty colors. (ETA: Saw them at Walmart today also, which makes sense since it's the same corporation.)

Traildoggie, I got mine 2 or so years ago. I'll check next time I am there. Lodge also makes enamel clad now but not sure how prices compare.

wallycat, I've been in Costco several times recently and have not seen any cast iron. I know all warehouses don't carry everything, some are bigger than others. the dutch oven is currently $79 plus a few dollars shipping online. I think I will give it a try. this will be a vacation house but I still will need some decent equipment but probably will not get used as much as the LC one I already have.

After reading about enamel cast iron and Costco on this thread (and I remember many raving about it on the old CLBB) --- I just took a look at the costco website. You know, just for info. Ha. I have no idea what they have sold in the past, but on their website is a Fontignac 5.5 qt on sale for $79 ( that must be what traildoggie is referring to).
Oooh, I would be tempted to get that if I didn't already have a 5.5 LC pot. I think (don't quote me) that Fontignac is part of the Staub company. And the pot is made in France.
Wallycat, I've heard good things about Lodge enamel (and I'm a huge Lodge cast iron fan) -- but for me, unfortunately their enamel is made in China unlike their plain cast iron which is made in the US.
traildoggie, enjoy the new pot! Would love a review.
