So, what cooking-related gifts are you planning to give (or hoping to receive) for the upcoming holiday season (Christmas or otherwise)? I'm excited b/c we are looking ahead toward DS' wedding gift next year, so "foodie gifts" are on my mind. I have a really well-stocked kitchen so my own Christmas wish list is short to nonexistent (a few specific Bundt pans, that sort of thing), but DS and his fiancee will need everything so I've been shopping with a more attentive eye than usual. Williams-Sonoma is going to love me. What about you?

No giving our receiving here but you son and his fiancee are blessed to call you family' Aaaaww; thanks!! I think they'll register at W-S & BBB for the kitchen/home stuff; they might want me to go with them b/c while they are fully capable of picking out what they want, they might be sitting ducks for your average store employee. I don't want a bunch of useless gadgets pushed on them--if they want gadgets, that's their prerogative, but they should know what's likely to actually be helpful in their kitchen. (Such as, for example, those little stripper things that pull the leaves from rosemary sprigs. That's why God gave us fingernails.) Now the All-Clad D5 collection; well . . . that's another matter! I haven't been too excited by several of the W-S store brands, particularly table linens, but All-Clad is the best (IMO; YMMV).

If you get the one with a lot of different size holes it does work really well to prep collard/mustard/turnip greens/kale Since I get soooo many greens in my farm share, I use it a lot for prepping green things like basil, carrot tops, arugula, etc. for pesto. Nails works too but I don't polish mine so the green stain made me look a little weird, sort of like someone on the verge of becoming the Incredible Hulk

testkitchen, you are so considerate helping the young couple. I have heard superstitious talk that it's a bad thing to give a knife as a gift. However, top quality knives last a lifetime. Perhaps a gift certificate would enable the couple to buy themselves. And a good knife block for safe storage. One or two good quality cutting boards. Hefty kitchen shears. Thick oven mitts. Something to peel vegetables that fits well in the hand - can be a very individual preference. Strainer/colander, whisk, heat-tolerant spatula. Those are all items I use every day.

I'm over-saturated with kitchen stuff. Now, if someone wanted to send me wine or a nice bottle of single malt scotch, I'd be all over it! We don't exchange gifts really but I did recently give my neighbor a 1/2 sheet jelly roll pan with a cooling rack from Nordicware. Those pans are so useful, not just for desserts. I broil my side of salmon on an angle on that thing and it typically JUST fits. Great for roasting a whole head of cauli florets too.

tk45-- Sounds like you are having fun and congrats too! If they have a shower before the wedding -- they will get stuff then too. And, not everyone goes off the registry (which explains some of the real interesting gifts some get too, ha!). I know people rave about All-Clad -- they have so many different lines, it is confusing to me. I often see it on sale or in TJ Max, but then, never sure if it is a good deal or not. I was going to buy an All-Clad at Macys but didn't take the time to look into it. And, by then the super mega sale was over.
I love foodie gifts -- any time, small kitchen item/tools, food, restaurant gift card. I'm in.
A few months back a friend received a Zingermans basket with lots of good stuff.
I ordered from the Mustard Museum before (after first reading about it on the CLBB) and my friend loved the gift!
I have a list of food gift sites somewhere on my laptop.

I suspect the bride's friends will do a lingerie shower, & it's likely that another group might host a general shower. Showers of showers; ha! I've got my eye on the All-Clad D5 set for a wedding gift, & everyone needs a 5.5-quart Le Creuset, & oh yeah they'll need nonstick too & I've been happier with my humble Calphalon Contemporary nonstick than my All-Clad nonstick, & they haven't even registered yet so there'll be a slew of spatulas & measuring cups & spoons . . . right now, each of them just has cheapie stuff in the apartments, so they'll need pretty much everything so they can replace their just-starting-out purchases that are of middling quality.

I'll have to check out the All-Clad site -- to see their different pans.
Are they foodies/cooks?
I've bought all different price points of non-stick, and sometimes I love the pricier one, sometimes I hate that pricier ones. Kind of a crap shoot for me. I just tried a new brand, will be interested in how that one works. They always start off great. I had a Calphalon contemporary (and olllldddd one) that lasted a long time, just recently tossed. I still have my eye on a LC skillet -- I'm thinking of going to their outlet this weekend, you know, just to browse. ; )
Have fun with all celebrations and shopping too!

I'm a fan of Scanpan for nonstick. They can be pricey, but I find them worth the $$$. I have a 10" skillet for eggs and I use my Scanpan Pro IQ Chef's Pan almost every day.

TK, leave something for others to give them! LOL I laugh because I will be the same way. We just got back from visiting our son and attending his master's recital. His GF was there and we were both baking cookies for the reception. The stick blender whisk attachment just wasn't cutting it for stiff peak egg whites for meringues. We went to Target and got a very basic hand mixer that was marked down for clearance, but I really wanted to get him a KA mixer and just be done with it. I' told them they will get one when they are ready. And probably some All-Clad. Each of the boys have an All-Clad skillet I found at Home Goods (if you spot one for $29 on clearance, how can you not take it home?). He also has our retired espresso maker.
As for the holidays, I'm not really planning much in the way of foodie gifts. I will probably give some jams and other homemade goodies, but other than that, I have a cookbook and a pizzelle iron planned for my son's GF (her birthday falls over the holidays too), I might get a French press or some kind of pour over option for my younger son.

Grab gift? Stocking stuffer? Something extra? (about $10 bucks!!) I bought mine for $9.99 at our market. (I think I saw them at Amazon, too.) www.thekitchn.com/silicone-egg-po-17050 - EGG POACHER CUPS Might be a nice little gift for a foodie on your list. (I bought them because I read Christopher Kimball raving about a different brand of them in his new magazine.) I *love* them after only one try! They make perfect and supper-easy poached eggs. It goes like this: lightly coat each 'cup' with veg oil, break egg into, place in small pan that has 1-1/2 inches of water simmering away, put lid on pan...set timer 3 - 5 minutes. Result: lovely soft yolk at center and nicely solid whites. Wow. PS: That's how it's supposed to happen, but in truth, I did things my own way. I've only made them ONE TIME...but they were GREAT! I first removed strings on eggs after breaking them open into a spoonrest (I always do this with eggs), and *then* I put each egg into the silicon cup. I put the cups into the pan before water was simmering and put cover on. But oh well. They came out SO lovely -- I think I started the timer after the water got going and timed about 4 min, covered again and let cook a minute more. I'll never go back to making poached eggs without em!! Never!! These are so cool! Now, I want poached eggs on everything!! COULD NOT BE EASIER! (PPS: they can be hung, too...each corner flap has little hole for hanging or something.)

My daughter, on the other side of the country, recently mailed us a small box that contained: 2 kinds of her homemade cookies, coffee toffee drops (from market), and 2 pretty dish towels. Wonderful gift! We yummied down those cookies awfully quick. Made us smile.

My sister gave me a beautiful salad bowl with matching tongs with parrots on them and the Love & Lemons cookbook. My nephew's family got me Cooking for Jeffrey and a nice serving plate. I came back to work yesterday to some lovely home made toffee and peanut brittle from a coworker.

I also got Cooking for Jeffrey, plus Bittman's How to Bake Everything. My husband's company gives us a wonderful gift every year; this year it was a Nespresso machine. Hubs got me a sous vide and an 8-quart Instant Pot, so I'm excited to play with all of my new toys. Thanks to Beth's heads-up on the KAF shipping special, I just received a few things from them (KAF Cake Flour for certain KAF recipes, and a few mixes); will be fun to get some baking in today if possible.

I received a Madeline pan from the parents - I've been eager to give those tasty and addicting little cake/cookies a try, but haven't had the time yet! Hopefully this weekend. Husband received a nice bottle of scotch. Happiness all around.
