I have the same problem with emails. Hope someone posts a solution. These are things I do....I highlight what I want to print and when I hit print, I select the "selection" option. That sometimes works. I have also copied and pasted it into office works (Free) and printed from there.

I don't use my printer much so I don't really know. BUT I do have my print option set, right now, to make pdf out of whatever I want printed, so it worked for me, the Print button I mean.
I highlight the text, then right click and in the list that comes up is Print. I click that and it takes me to my print options screen. Using that worked for me just now.
So, when you say you 'hit print' do you mean you right clicked and selected Print? If not, you might wanta try that.
I hope that helps.

I got it to print, but seriously tiny. I also tried clicking on the little gear icon, then select then rt click and print but it ends up in a weird little vertical column. at no time do I have an option to increase the porint size. back to try again. maybe I need to enlarge it before I select it.

When I highlight the text, my print screen opens with various options. It lets me see all the printer types I have installed on my computer. I wish I could see what you are seeing on your side of things.
Do you have your printer installed and the software for it normally shows up in your printer window? In the past when you print, have you successfully printed using other programs? I wish I knew more about this kind of stuff. Sorry.
I so seldom print things out. Usually, I have copied things to my NoteTab program, and printed from there. I don't have much experience printing directly from other programs...but it sure looks like I can on my print screen that opens after I right-click on anything and select Print.
I'm gonna go test print on my husband's computer...back in a few.

Ok, I found an error in the template that caused the skinny column [what you called weird little vertical column] (I could see this while using Firefox browser but not Google Chrome). I will report that to the template author. I have patched the template so the skinny column problem should be gone. I just created a 'TIP: Printing' to help you with printing. See if things work better for you now. If you still have a problem, tell me what browser you are using and whether you are on a PC.

Bev (aka Wonder Woman) -- THANKS!!! PS: I use Chrome. I also have Foxfire or Firefox (I can never get it straight) installed but don't use often. How odd that it is so different!! Regarding enlarging print: I looked over my husband's print options when testing printing forum from his computer. I see no font mentioned there, anywhere. So, yeah, I think font options are native to each program being used...and aren't listed as options when we go to print from here. Interesting. I mean: it would seem so normal to have them on everything. Now, I'm curious to try to print from other programs so see if they offer the option.

I use IE. this is a fairly new printer for me an HP envy. I will look in the morning. so far I have not had choices. Mostly I'd like to increase the print size to "normal" size. I don't need super size stuff, but this is bottom of the eye chart. This is weird...doesn't anyone print anything anymore/ how do you cook from a recipe if it's not printed? no way do I have electronics on the kitchen counter getting slimed.

I used to make printouts but these days I often take laptop or Kindle to kitchen. When I find recipes of interest, I usually put them into my Mastercook program (where I can set reading font to any styles, sizes, colors, I want. BLISS for my eyesight problems.) Plus, when I used to print out recipes, I used Mastercook's print options (lots of designs, even a large font design). So, that's my excuse why I haven't attempted to print from here. I'm not much help. Sorry. I don't think this forum offers font size print options.

When you Print, there is a ProBoards process between the page you see on the screen and the printer. I don't have control over this process. What it does is take everything on the screen and make the linespacing 1 and the fontsize 100% (makes it "normal") so any enlarging you may have done to the view on the screen via the browser options are lost. It sounds like you are ok with 'normal', but not 'micro'. I think you will find your issues are with your printer properties where you have some shrinking going on. BTW, don't think of trying to use printer properties to "enlarge" above 100% to print your document-- you'll find that you'll just get an enlarged portion of the page and the rest spills over the edge and you can't see it.
As Brenda, wallycat and cookieee have said, sometimes you have more control over printing by copy/pasting to other applications. For example: a) If you copy/paste the items you want to a word processor, you can use the word processor font size and style options to change to a better font and then print from there (wallycat indicates Office Works is free; so is Open Office). This also has the benefit of allowing you to cut out the ads and other material you don't want. b) Copy/pasting to a recipe program has other benefits (in addition to changing fonts, deleting what you don't want, etc), as Brenda pointed out... you have it in a recipe database and you can print out a recipe, a cookbook or 3x5 recipe card (I use Mastercook for this, as does Brenda). c) cookieee, below, copy/pastes to her email program, where she can edit it to look the way she wants before printing.
One trick you can use for a "quick and dirty" print is to take a picture of the screen and paste it into a word processing document and print from there. This means you only get what you see-- what you paste is an image and no longer text. The command to do this in Windows is 'Alt-PrtScrn' on your keyboard. That takes a picture of the current window and puts it into the clipboard. Go to your word processor and either rt-click and choose Paste, or do Ctrl-V, or menu Edit > Paste. Be nice to your friends and don't send this document to them in order to share the recipe... it is a picture of the recipe. Yes, they can print it, too, but if they want to put it into their recipe program, they'll have to re-type it. But you can now just print the document with the picture in it and you have exactly what you saw on the screen.

Great work, Bev. Thank you very much. You sure make our computer and recipe lives easier. I love all this wonderful info you have shared with us!
Traildoggie - your kitchen prep sounds verrrry interesting. LOL
To avoid the slime (hehe) when I do use a printout, made long ago for favorite recipes -- I bought thick plastic sheet protectors...jewel colors. Love em. I can tack them to a bulletin board, they sit nicely in a book holder or using a magnet to hold them up...and I always know right where those recipes are because the sheet protectors stand out from other types I have. (I also have an easel recipe holder thingy that stands--holds sheet protectors filled with recipes...)

Thanks for the ideas. I have Word but don't use it much. I don't like the way my email program prints things. Mostly I thought I was missing something obvious! I had trouble with the old CL site printing things too small also. used to work fine, then the last year or two I got teeny print. I found a work around but that was with my old printer. It gave up working a couple months ago. so fairly new printer. I will work on this, thanks.
I tend to be a "splashy" cook. if I like a recipe , it goes into a sheet protector then into a hanging file. if my countertop isn't pristine, it can get slimed easily. no electronics in my kitchen.
