Since I cook for just the two of us, I got rid of my big food processor years ago. I have a mini chop type by Cuisinart but it doesn't work well for pesto which is the ONLY thing I make in any quantity. I currently use my blender which works OK but takes quite a bit of time and liquid to break things down to the right texture. I see some 8-cup food processors out there but don't want to spend the $$ or dedicate the storage space to something that won't work better than my blender. Any thoughts here?

www.consumersearch.com/food-processors/best-mini-food-processors A 2015 article about small food processors. I have the Ninja that it mentions. I think you can find Ninja's like that but that have only one or two parts...instead of the whole set. From what I can tell from quickly looking at the internet is that small food processors can be under $50. (Another thought is thrift stores. I love trying out appliances that cost very little AND that allow returns...like the Goodwill. My daughter bought a really nice big food processor there for cheap. She loves it.) I have two person (AND CAT) household too. But I opted for the Cuisinart 14 cup because, in my past, I've made bread in a food processor and I loved that. Plus, I've met people who make cookies (and rave about) using their food processors. I've yet to DO that... but I have used mine for pie crusts and pizza dough. The Ninja set I've used for grinding spices, pancakes and waffles, egg dishes, drinks. Fun, fun! I hope you find something that you like, Pat.

I have the largest Cuisinart (I think 14 cups) as well and it is just DH and I (and 3 cats ). I used to make bread (kneading) in the food processor as well. I also bought a Vitamix recently and I tend to go to the processor more often than the blender. If you wanted to get a workout, you could buy a big mortar and pestle and make it the old fashioned way ***ducking***

Thanks to all for the great input. I'm still pondering, but the big sales are happening soon

I bought a new food processor awhile back to replace my broken KA --- I got a Cuisinart 11 cup (and IMO didn't take up any more space than expected -- not real bulky) on a big sale for something like $85 from Macys. And, I have very little counter space and it doesn't irk me (and that is saying something). I do like that it has two lids -- one being a flat lid (with no bulky feed tube) so easy to clean. I use that one quote a bit when making hummus, pureeing etc.
I do pretty basic stuff with it, no bread making, and some food processor were too high to fit under my cabinet, or just took up way too much space.
I usually just cook for myself, but for some reason the 8-cup seemed small (but that was looking at the demo model a SLT), and I remember looking at the measurements (which I remember the footprint did vary quite a by model) and mine seemed a bit more compact. Hope you find something that best fits your needs, whatever you pick!

I have a cuisinart mini prep. I think that's what it's called. It holds about 3 cups. I've worn out 3-4 of them over the years, plus more bowls and lids. I use it a lot! sometimes it was cheaper to buy a whole new unit than to replace only a work bowl. never know what you will find available. I've made pesto in it many times.
I used to have a much larger one, but it finally died and I didn't replace. I don't do bread dough anymore. I cook for two so the smaller size is really a benefit. much easier to grate to chop small quantities in the smaller feed tube and bowl. It with a citrus juicer attachment that I love. once or twice a year I squeeze a whole Costco size bag of limes and freeze in cubes. the juicer attachment is a huge help. it also has a chute to shred large quantities directly into another bowl. never used it much.
ETA never mind. the unit I was describing has been discontinued so I need to find something else. I have a lot of assorted parts so I will be good for quite a while, but would not buy one at this point.

Do you have or have you used a stick blender? Some also have attachments so they work as small processors. My Cuisinart 11 cup has lost a piece onthe workbowl It still works as long as the lid goes on a certain way, but I was wondering if I should replace it. A new bowl adn lid would cost as much or nearly as much as a new one on a holiday sale.

The next time I get a huge batch of arugula or some other green thing I will try to use my immersion blender to make pesto. Although past experience says that white tile and grout aren't the best possible combo for oily green stuff. But then turmeric and cumin aren't my counter's friends either. Thanks for the ideas everyone.

I have the Cuisinart 11 cup food processor also. I agree with Beth those bowls are expensive to replace. Mine has hairline cracks in the back of it and I need to get it thru the 20-25 balls of pierogi dough next Friday. Every November since our kids were small we have made them. My husband's paternal side is Ukrainian. We usually end up with 300 or more pierogies. We freeze them for the year. I have all the attachments to the food processor so I hope I can find that same one but I thought that Amazon had a discontinued comment on it earlier this year. I love my food processor. Carrie
