Just wondering if there is a suggested place to buy your Le Creuset enameled cookware. Is there some amazing discount place that was endlessly mentioned on the CLBB but I somehow missed those threads because I was too busy reading a post on the best banana bread or something. Doubtful but you never know!
Sure I know all the usual stores/websites sell them ..... department stores, Willams Sonoma, Sur La Table, online places like Amazon. And often prices similar/see some sales like today received email that SLT having a one-day flash sale on some items. I know some see LC at TJMax etc, but I usually see just odds and ends and usually just bakeware, but I don't go there often so it might just be scooped up already.
I have two Le Creuset enameled cast iron ---- I think I picked one up at WS and the other at ChefsCatalog (out of business). And for the way too may stoneware pieces I bought at the usual places.
I am getting some LC as a group gift, and I was thinking of getting a pan for myself so wanted to ask so since it will be a couple of pieces.
Too bad they discontinued the color that I have (still really like the green color -- "fennel"!).
Thanks,

DH and I motorcycled through a lot of the US. If there was an outlet store, I was there! Yup, either had it shipped or packed it on the bike and schlepped it home. The colors keep changing and I got hooked on "having them all." Of course, that will never happen precisely because they change them! Mine are seconds and DH had a full set of "regular" and I cannot tell the difference in using them. The older ones had no enamel on the base; the new ones did. Not sure what they are doing now. I think they are adding back the wooden handled ones though!! Have fun shopping! My favorite piece is the all purpose pan....a cross between a low casserole/wok/skillet type.

See if there's a Le Creuset outlet near you. Or not so near you; they often have free-ship thresholds. Outlets carry first-quality goods plus seconds (your own outlet may vary); many LC seconds are just as good as firsts. For example, I got a 5-quart Signature pot that was supposedly a second; it has an insignificant air-bubble pop on the underside of one handle. Big deal. But it was marked as a second, plus it's a Signature so super-cool! (bigger handles), plus I got it in Flame, which at that time was on a color-of-the-month special. So what a deal! Most of my LC came from outlets; I'm at the point now where I ignore most outlet sales b/c I have what I need--but I still am aware that they offer color specials, free-ship specials, & others, frequently.
If an outlet is too far or not on your driving path somewhere, you can call and talk to a manager. Ask him/her to carefully inspect the piece you want, & describe any "second" issues. I've found that LC staff are usually pretty excited about the mdse & happy to help; if you don't call at a super-busy time, they'll be happy to select a piece for you if you can't be there to do it yourself. They might even have your discontinued green (which green is it?).
I also bought one pan on eBay once, from a seller who carefully inspected it & described it. It's one of my favorite pieces (a braiser in bright yellow Dijon). I have most of the colors; ask away!
ETA: Looks as if wallycat & I posted at the same time. Yay for outlets! But also, if you have a bigger W-S near you, they sometimes put LC pieces on their sale table when they're clearing stuff out as a new season begins. I was sorely tempted by a hunter-green pot once, but resisted (price was still not as good as an outlet, but it was sooooo pretty . . .). Sur La Table puts LC on sale occasionally also.

Definitely check on outlet locations (Le Creuset.com) near you and get on the LC mailing list/special customer list. We are lucky (VISA card says not so much ) to have one less than 10 miles away. I have become friends with the manager and I know they take a lot of calls and ship stuff directly from their store. Also the website takes orders and offers sales. I have also seen and bought pieces at Marshall's and Tuesday Morning locations. Check consignment stores, a local one last yr had a cast iron LC small pot in this lovely vintage green for $25!! Really well cared for. And I left it! Went back 2 days later and of course it was gone. I was proud of my self-restraint recently. LC outlet here came out with another run of Coastal Blue (aka Carolina Blue). My friend gave me the heads-up and i was there on the first day early. I bought some ceramic baking dishes (9x9 and a 9x13) for a Tar Heel fan's wedding next summer and a grill pan for our Carolina nephew for Christmas. For myself, I "only" got a saucepan and a 9x13 ceramic baker. They had a French press and awesome mugs and more in the lovely light blue, but I walked away. Don't French press and got tons of mugs. Happy Le Creuseting! Wallycat, your motorcycling adventures packing LC on a bike made me smile!!

Thanks for the great info and tips! And, thanks so much for the reminder about their outlet stores. I'll be sure to check out WS and SLT when out shopping etc.
Maybe I was just trying to block it out! Ha. But yes there is an outlet less than an hr away, right on the city train line. And shocking, I have only been there once! How is that for willpower! I called to get myself back on their mailing/email promo list since I haven't gotten anything from them in a long time. And the salesperson gave me the rundown..... coastal blue getting discontinued (I think she said it was 35%, I'm not familiar with that color), sale around halloween on the flame color, carry both first quality, some seconds, some discontinued colors etc.
I forgot that I ordered from outlets years back, mainly over the phone, and like you said they were super helpful. One item was a second (and like you said looked great), and the others were first quality. So if my local outlet doesn't have it ......
I tossed a few of my old nonstick and/or worn pans and looking to get a new pan or two. LC might be one of my picks.
Testkitchen, I have the green color (fennel). I still love the color, which is a good thing, since my dutch oven stays on my stove top. Hmm, now to decide what color to get (assuming a great price doesn't "influence" me) if I decide to buy something.
joanieb - I guess we were replying at same time. We've all been there -- you see something you like at a great price at a store, and then shockingly not there when you go back. Been there, done that.
Wallycat, I've never been on a motorcycle, but I've certainly carried my share of stuff home on buses, planes and trains.

Applecrisp, in trying to find you a true Coastal blue link, I found this, which is more true to color than a lot of photos: www.polyvore.com/le_creuset_quart_braiser_coastal/thing?id=45290240There is a fade to darker blue at the bottom on most of the pieces. If I knew how to post a photo here, I'd plop a few pieces on the deck in the sunshine and take a pic for you. In searching for the Coastal pics, I ran across some pics of fennel pieces. I believe that's the color of the piece I saw at the consignment store. Gorgeous!!

You know, I have a few Le Creuset pieces that I was planning to sell:
6-quart doufeu in Cactus green, which is very similar to Sonoma Green (and maybe Fennel?) 2-quart eggplant-shaped cast iron casserole, in purple Eggplant color 1.5- or 2-quart Cherry red cast iron pate terrine (it's about 13" long; need to check capacity)
It slipped my mind b/c once I washed & stored these three, I had all sorts of other distractions over the last few months (dishwasher leak & resulting remodeling; parental illness; lots of other things to do & think about).

joanieb -- Thanks for the picture! I might go the the LC outlet and see what they have. How ironic that the salesperson said she had "your" coastal blue color in a couple of pieces -- on a good discount since a discontinued color. Well I do love the color blue! : ) I so agree, I think that fennel green color is so pretty, and like how it shades darker to the bottom. I would buy that color again in a minute! But that color has been discontinued for awhile so if I get a LC, have to pick another color.
tk45 -- So sorry that you had so much going on, but those LC pieces will be popular at anytime -- if you decide to sell. Off to look up what a doufeu is.
Growing up we had a LC dutch oven (I'm thinking it was bigger than my 5 1/2 qt) in I think flame. I don't think it was ever used. No idea why/how we got it. So when my parents were moving, my dad sold it to a neighbor for less than $50 -- and for all I know much less than that. Eeeek. This happened before I got enlightened and knew about LC. If I knew about it then (I was right out of school) that would so have been in my parent's car headed my way!
Thanks everyone.

Life has settled down a bit! Still busy, but in a good way. I'm surprised to hear a larger LC oven wasn't used when you were growing up. I have a 9-quart in Cherry, & actually use it frequently for soups, roasts, & such--I may not need all 9 quarts (unless a big roast is sticking up), but I love the combination of plenty of surface area plus tall sides so you can stir. So for me, it's not just for a doubled recipe to feed a crowd; it's pretty useful. The 13-quart is the one that boggles my mind; how do people lift that when it's full? My outlet gal told me that she sells 13-quart ones to men, mostly, for use in a fireplace while camping. Outlet had a "goose pot" at one time: a ginormous oval that weighed as much as a Volkswagen. I wasn't surprised when it was d/c'd.

testkitchen45 -- So good to hear that things are better and good busy!
My mom wasn't really into doing big qty cooking (or small qty for that matter), just made basic things like roasted chicken, veggies, pasta, pot roast, salad and never made soup or anything. Soup came from my grandmother -- I guess no big pot needed for that. Yum. She must have received it as a gift or something, i doubt she bought it.
Do you have any of their enameled skillets? That is one I'm thinking about. Thanks.

Skillets? Nope. I'm not a big fan of long handles; I like short loop handles. So I have their braisers (also called buffet pans--two loop handles on a skillet-style pan). LOVE them. They come in 3-quart and 5-quart sizes & make gorgeous one-dish items & casseroles, plus they'll stay hotter on a buffet than will stainless steel (even my All-Clad).

testkitchen -- I'm also like short handles, especially for some pans, since I find it much easier to store in my kitchen, and maneuver on my stove top. I have the 3 1/2 qt braiser too and just like you said, it is great for when I need a large pan. But I often find it too big, unwieldy for much of my day to day cooking (ie cooking up 1-2 boneless chicken, or sauteeing some veggies). I usually just cook for one (sometimes two). I was thinking of the skillet (the one with the black interior is supposed to be even more nonstick than the white enamel interior but not a big deal since I find them easy to clean regardless), but more importantly, no chemical coating that eventually wears out like nonstick etc. I have a 10 inch Lodge that I LOVE but I was thinking of trying a LC, or I might just get another stainless steel pan. A LC or stainless would be good for when I make tomato based dishes/acidic dishes since I don't use my Lodge for certain dishes, and I could use a bit larger size pan. I might just make do with what I have (maybe it is more I think I need another pan, than I really do need). I love the extra space I gained by getting rid of some pans and lids. It sounds silly but it looks so much better when I pull out a pan and that drawer isn't so crowded. In a small kitchen, you don't often have just open space! I'm in a whole get rid of the clutter kick and just keep what you need and love. See maybe that's why I've been avoiding the LC outlet, the temptation. And can you imagine if they have my fennel green. Ha! Actually I have little space and really have all that I need..... so I wouldn't be coming home with random things. Or that is what I think right now.
