We are loving 2013 Joel Gott 815 Cabernet Sauvignon. You can actually taste the difference when it's put through the Vinturi aerator. We tried it with first, and without. Some wines I don't notice as much a difference, but this one becomes so smooth. I actually am not looking to try any new Cabs right now because we are loving this one so much. Average price seems to be about $16, but Costco carries it for $12.99 here in IN, but I've seen it as high as $20.99 at some stores. The 2014 is out too and I bought a bottle to try, but haven't yet. I'm looking to scoop up more 2013 when I get to Costco later this week just in case the 2014 is not as good. What wines are you raving about these days? ETA - does anyone read the Costco Wine Blog? It's independent of Costco, but I like to see what others are trying. costcowineblog.com/

I'm lousy at describing wines (I leave that to my husband) beyond saying when I like something and when I don't. And though we're basically out of the time of year when this wine seems to call people's names, I'm delighted to have found some of this online, since our favorite Greek restaurant changed labels. It's not costly, just hard to find-- and while I've found other moschofileros which are pleasant, invariably they don't hold a candle to this one. Light, fruity, and with very possibly the most delightfully floral aroma I have ever found in a wine, Nassiakos Moschofilero is a perfect partner with just about any Greek dish we've tried with it and is particularly refreshing with seafood. If it has any fault, it's that I'd almost rather sit with my nose in the glass, the bouquet is that enticing.

We are still pushing 90 here for the next week or more, so a white is just fine. I am about to have chili for dinner, but I have this craving for pizza and white wine now. This place is as bad as going to the grocery store when hungry.

I've been enjoying the 2013 Columbia Crest Grand Estates Cab. Inexpensive ($12-$14), bold and berry flavors. It is my go-to everyday table wine.

I find that Costco's vary from store to store and state to state with selections. I plan on trying some of the Kirkland wines next. Funny thing, I had been enjoying Pinot Noir's but lately I'm not liking them. Like Gail mentioned she isn't good at describing wines, I'm not either. My description of Pinot Noir's has been thin or watery. Maybe it's just some of the PN that I've had that don't cut it. I liked Cambria, but haven't had that in a while - maybe need to try it again to see if my tastes have changed.
For our 30th anniversary this summer, my boys bought us a bottle of 2006 Dom Perignon. We opened it up, because really, what would we save it for? I can say we enjoyed it (or I more than DH), but not at that price would I choose to drink it again (if I had to buy the bottle).

Just wondering if anyone has heard of or had Cameron Hughes wines? chwine.com
I heard about it recently advertised on the radio. They aren't a winery, but buy wines from wineries and bottle them under their own label. Their shipping prices seem reasonable - $10 a case of 12 I believe. Since I now live in a state with stupid wine shipping laws, it's one of the few places I would be able to order from.

BUMP
Anything new in wine? I still prefer red over white, but this time of year I do enjoy a nice Sauvignon Blanc or usually will make a white sangria. DH still prefers red when he decides he wants to join me in having a glass.
wallycat, I've looked for that wine at Costco here and still haven't seen it.
Love to Run - we recently tried the Columbia Crest you mentioned and we really liked it. I think it was about $10 at Costco.
We had a nice Pinot Noir recently from J Vineyards Russian river valley (estate grown). I swear I paid less than $25 for it and now I see it only for about $35. Will have to wait for a good sale or a mix and match case sale for 20% off a lot of store have from time to time.

Costco Shoppers...did you know?
If you see a wine price that ends in .97 and you like it...buy it up. That is what they use to indicate a wine is on sale...and...if there is also an * in the upper right corner of the sign it means it is on sale and is being discontinued, so, if you like it buy as much as you can because it won't be coming back.
This also applies to anything else in the store...I chat with people and one day there was a man in the wine section training another person and as I chatted with him he told me that...maybe it's not new info for others but it certainly was to me.
I buy most of my wine at Trader Joes but can't remember what I have been drinking lately...

Emptynest, yes, the "97" is talked about on costco-review type sites. When I find something I like, I do stock up. The tannat wine was a 1-1/2 case purchase, so I still have some in the rack. I am definitely getting old because I remember being able to buy amazing wine for 3.99 at the local grocery store in WI. Times, they are -a-changin'

wallycat, I've seen the Paxis, so I'll look for it the next time I am there (tomorrow).
emptynestmom, I knew about the .97 and the * so I look at that a lot. When I buy wine, I don't usually have it right away as we always have lots of bottles on hand. If the price looks good, I buy more than a bottle. The only bad thing about that is by the time I go about trying it, that vintage may no longer be available.
I look at costcowineblog.com (not affiliated with Costco, just someone who reviews their wines) but they are based in Atlanta, so not all the wines are local to me.

I live in stupid wine shipping law state too. Of course, my state is pretty stupid about a lot of laws >:( They just shot down a bill that would have closed the loophole allowing drive-thru alcoholic beverages. You read that right - a new daiquiri and margarita drive-thru is opening near me in a family neighborhood. What could possibly go wrong because no one would ever consume the drinks before arriving home.

I live in IN now where it used to be that you couldn't order wines from a winery for delivery unless you have visited them in person. That changed around the time we moved here, but a winery cannot ship direct if it already distributes wine in the state. No sales on Sunday either which sucks for people going to Costco on that day.

I haven't tried it - nor have I seen it in the store - but Trader Joe's is now selling canned wine that I guess is all the rage. The article says it's flying off the shelves and you have to get there early to grab some which might be why I have yet to see it: www.businessinsider.com/trader-joes-wine-cans-2017-6

I haven't been to TJ's in a couple of months, but I don't think I would want to buy canned wine. I've seen some canned wine spritzers in other stores ( I think Barefoot, but don't know for sure) but not interested. Now if I were at somebody's house and they had canned wine, I would say thank you and try it. BTW, my SIL was telling me about a red wine to try - The Whole Shebang. I gave up looking for it and couldn't source it in IN. Happened to come across it last week and bought a few bottles. It was a nice wine for about $14. It was in the NY times as 20 wines for under $20. www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2017/01/12/dining/20-for-under-20/s/18POUR-slide-0G44.html

I am a red drinker, but I am loving this frizzante Italian white called Fallegro by Gianni Gagliardo. Perfect for summer. I get it at my local shop for $14.99. Picture of bottle here: enotec.net/product/gianni-gagliardo-favorita-fallegro/I've tried Mancan at my store, too, despite not being its target audience! Available in 11 states, I think. The red was good; the fizzy OK; I've had better whites.

We don't have a Costco or a Trader Joes in Duluth, nearest is in Minneapolis/St. Paul - a 150 mile one way drive. Niner Estates (California) Husband bought me a club membership when he visited in 2011 and we've enjoyed them ever since. *We* find the Cab Sav a bit strong for our tastes, but the other reds and whites are quite enjoyable and consistently good. Primarius (Oregon) My sister and I visited here - I didn't consider myself a red wine drinker until I had their Pinot Noir. Now I have a new favorite red and I can buy it in Duluth! Sister Creek Vineyards (Texas) Best. Muscat Cannelli EVER! They don't ship out of Texas, so I have to wait until the Parents swing through when they snowbird. Barefoot wines - when I want a basic, tasty, inexpensive table wine or I'm looking for something to cook with.

Lately we're into the bourbon-barrel aged wines, especially the Zinfandels...1000 Stories is by far our favorite so far...at TJ for $16.99, Total Wine for $18.99, and also have seen it at Publix...high for what I like to spend...yeah I'm cheap because there are sooo many good ones under $10. but this one is well worth the price!! It coats the glass so well and you can definitely get a bourbon finish...just lovely

Cost Plus has 30% of a case (can be mixed) until Sept.5th I think. I like to check then out since they have some wines I haven't seen elsewhere. I found the Paxis Red wine that wallycat mentioned above. I picked up a couple of bottles since I haven't been able to find it at Costco. I think it was $7.99 with the sale.
As for Costco, they had a recent wine bottle signing at an Indy location by Daniel Cohn (not familiar with the wine) but I picked up a bottle since it was signed (Cabernet). It was 19.99. I find Costco's do vary -even the ones in Indy here carry some differences between the stores.
gabbyh - I have a bottle of 1000 Stories, but have yet to try it. I tend to buy wine and open them down the road, so not sure when I will try it. Good to hear you like it. I also found that one of my faves, 7 Deadly Zins, now has a 7 Deadly Red, which I also bought.
Actually, we've been picking up more red blends lately it seems. Must be a phase. My SIL wanted me to find The Whole Shebang (Cal red) and it took me a while, but I found it at one grocery store in Carmel, IN. The wine guy there said it flies off the shelf.

Just saw the review on Costco Wine Blog. Might be back in stores. He says it's $5.99, but it could be regional of course. costcowineblog.com/2013-paxis-red-blend-lisboa-portugal/I found it at Cost Plus, and tried it recently. A bit on the sweet side, but it was nice, especially after it sat out for a bit.

I just came back from another trip to the Portland/Corvallis area of Oregon (I-5 corridor in the Willamette Valley). The Sister took me to Benton Lane Winery - I have a new favorite winery! We did a tasting that included: 2014 Estate Pinot Noir First Class 2014 Pinot Noir 2015 Pinot Blanc 2016 Pinot Gris Both pinot noirs were very good, with the "First Class" really standing out (at $65/bottle it should!) We went back for a second class of the Pinot Gris - and my sister is not traditionally a white wine drinker and this wine was just that good (and in part because it was only $5/glass, not $18 like the First class) The hostess said they do distribute in MN, so when I have some time, I'll be checking out our local stores.

I recently had the pleasure of trying Mandalay Rum, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I opened the bottle, the rich aroma of aged rum filled the air, setting the stage for what was to come. What sets Mandalay Rum apart, in my opinion, is the dedication to craftsmanship. It's evident that the distillers have put their heart and soul into creating this rum, and it truly shows in every sip. The attention to detail in the aging process results in a rum that's not just a drink but an experience.I highly recommend giving Mandalay Rum a try. It's a testament to the art of rum-making, and it's bound to leave a lasting impression. I can't wait to explore more of their offerings in the future!
