I was just reading the soup thread and saw where Erin Elizabeth said she isn't a huge fan of soup. I love soup so that's hard for me to imagine but it got me wondering what some of the more common foods are that others don't like. I'm not talking organ meats or weird foods like that. For me it's: - Eggplant - I've had really well-prepared eggplant and enjoyed it but for the most part, I steer clear of it. Have had a LOT more bad eggplant than good
- Okra - only had it once (I made it) and it was nasty. Would like to try it prepared by someone that knows what they're doing
- Whole apples - I can eat them in a pie or other dessert but just not a whole apple - yuck, weird mouth feel and can't stand the skin.
- Grapefruit
- Black licorice - I was at the store the other day and ran into a stranger in the candy aisle who started going off on how delicious Australian black licorice is. Well, lo and behold, I found some at TJs (guess it's trendy right now so bought it. Not my cup of tea and was happy I could return it.
I'm sure there's more but this is all that's coming to mind right now. DH is much pickier than me and you can put shellfish, Chinese food, mushrooms, angel food cake, stuffing, and strawberries on his list just to name a few. Anxious to hear what you all have to say.

I absolutely hate bananas from the smell to the texture to the taste.
Nothing else brings up a reaction like that - I can take or leave green beans, but I can eat them. I can't choke a banana down.

Blue cheese is the first thing that comes to mind. I have tried it in different ways hoping that I might acquire a taste for it, but I really can't do it. It just tastes nasty to me.
I also don't like Dijon mustard on sandwiches. I don't mind it in recipes, but can't hack it on its own.

My mother hated bananas too. I like green beans as long as they're overcooked. I can't stand them cooked "just until tender." Blech.

I can't honestly think of a thing. I've eaten some pretty weird stuff and very few things turn me off.

Parsnips and Lentils. I kept a current supply of lentils in my pantry for over 20 years, always hoping the next recipe I tried would be THE one. After I made Lentil Hummus, I accepted the fact that I don't like the way they look, I don't like the way they smell while cooking, and I don't like the taste. Finally about a year ago I finally caught on and gave myself permission to never cook them again.

blueberries -- a texture thing, whereas I can eat my weight in other berries
black licorice -- yes, hate!
fennel
root beer
peas -- won't toss out a good chicken potpie, but not a fan/never buy -- again texture
olives -- hate, IMO can ruin a good pizza,I will pick them off, and I mean all of them!
pepperoni, sausage (might depend on flavors), salami, bologna, lamb pistachio ice cream
I'm sure there are others.

Don't like: cauliflower, liver (or, really, any offal), beets. That said, if I was served any of these things, I'd probably take a small bit and eat it. I've had my fair share of cauliflower and beets at supper club. My weird thing is eggs. I do like them, but I am really particular about them. I've been known to order huevos rancheros minus the eggs! As a kid I used to eat hurka (Hungarian organ-meat sausage), fried chicken livers, and over-easy eggs but I'd hesitate now! PS I just realized I do have a few more things with "rules"--bananas (only in baked goods), mustard (won't eat as a condiment except at McD's!).

Wow....I love love love soups and eggplant. Can't imagine not having those in my diet. Also love parsnips, fennel, lentils, apples and grapefruit. But what I can agree on and what I don't love include: many cheeses but esp. blue cheeses, gorgonzola etc.... Black licorice for me too but I do like fennel beets most olives except really mild ones most meat these days esp. steak/beef sushi-can't get past the texture Agree with applecrisp on the pistachio ice cream-yuck green peppers-I will tolerate in small amts. Sweets-just let me have some cookies and ice cream and you guys can have all the rest (cake, pie, pastry etc...) coconut
I am sure there are more for me too but I can't think of them at the moment

Caraway Seed
Rye Bread of any kind
Sauerbraten or any other kind of "pickled" meat.
Radishes, Arugula and other "spicy" greens like mustard greens. I grow radishes every year in my garden and this was the first year I gave myself permission to not eat one. I just don't like them, but DH loves them. So I harvested them for him and it felt so freeing knowing that I did not have to eat even one. I got two BIG bunches of arugula in my recent CSA boxes, and they went right into the compost pile.
I'm not a fan of beer, but I do like to use it in cooking. I won't drink it though.

I was an extremely picky eater as a child, and after being pigeonholed as a difficult eater ("You don't LIKE that? REALLY???") I worked hard to learn become otherwise. As a result, I swung to the complete opposite side of the spectrum and I'll basically eat anything. Certain styles of cooking and certain ingredients may not be my preferences, but if they're served to me, I'll eat 'em anyway. I actually don't like not liking foods (does that make sense?) and have been known to keep trying different preparations of things until I find one which works for me. It only took me about 62 years to finally become a fan of Brussels Sprouts.
