I was reading Saveur Magazine's MEET THE WINNERS OF 2016'S SAVEUR BLOG AWARDS article online -- which led to a bit of distractions.....clicking on some of the blogs. www.saveur.com/blog-awards-2016-winnersThis recipe caught my eye, Smoke Eggplant Dip with Yogurt and Za'atar (ETA: from Small Victories cookbook). And the pics of the dip and bread makes me want to walk, no run, to the farmers market today. Just to give you an idea, some of the ingredients: eggplant, tahini, lemon, greek yog, za'atar.... Here's a link. www.alexandracooks.com/2016/09/21/smoky-eggplant-dip-yogurt-zaatar/ (this blog was a finalist of the most inspired weeknight dinner categories). I'll post a review if I make the recipe, but wanted to mention it since I was just on that site.

Thanks Sallyt -- I've never heard of that cookbook before. The funny thing is that after you mentioned it, I went on Amazon, clicked on the "surprise me" feature for the book and te first recipe to pop up was that eggplant recipe, and the next was a chickpea recipe. Isn't that a sign? So between that and your recco .... off to see if the library has it. I did take a quick look and lots of great sounding recipes. And, trying to ignore the Amazon gift card I have. For now....
(I did update the post and noted the cookbook)

I wish it were a sign, but it's probably a cookie from your browser

Just in case you don't have Za'atar on your spice shelf you can make it at home...Bon Apetit had this recipe
Combine 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh oregano, 1 Tbsp. sumac, 1 Tbsp. ground cumin, and 1 Tbsp. sesame seeds. Stir in 1 tsp. kosher salt and 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper. DO AHEAD: Can be made 2 weeks ahead. Store airtight at room temperature.
The recipe looked good but I don't have Za'atar on my shelf...of course I don't have sumac either!

sallyt-
But a sign sounds so much better. I think the cookie might actually be a chickpea.
I've was looking online over the last few days since I was thinking of getting a new skillet. So no surprise I'm seeing tons of ads for carbon steel pans, and don't start me on how many ads for Le Creuset, with some ads for Kind bars thrown in for some variety.

I got a small jar of za'atar in a gift basket and I've used it in a few things (even beyond simple things like putting a bit of olive oil on pita, sprinkling with za'atar and heating up). Za'atar really gives some good flavor the few times I've used it.
