Lots of sweets this month, but we know that about me, right?
Make Again
3/30 Mocha Buttered-Walnut Cake (Snacking Cakes) Good! No cardamom. Served with Cocoa Whip.
3/27 Best Hot Fudge Sauce (SK) Easy and good!
3/27 Pierogi (CC) Easy to follow. Loved the extra cheese in the filling.
3/18 Brownie Mix (ATK Kids) Really good. Add vanilla or espresso powder? Added nuts. Maybe up the salt just a bit. Try with different chips? Different cocoa? Definite keeper, but want to try some adjustments.
3/7 Fruit & Nut Freezer Oatmeal Cups (BH&G 3/19) Was suspicious because a lot of liquid! But this meant that the oatmeal doesn’t have the crumbly texture that baked oatmeal does. Added almonds and frozen blueberries. No dried fruit. Round 2 with apples, dried cranberries, walnuts & no butter. Needs a bit of butter or salt or added sweetness on the reheat.
Good
3/22 Black-Bottom Coconut Cream Pie (Food52) Tasty. Maybe coconut is OK.
Eh
3/13 Dark Chocolate Marzipan Scone Loaf (Food52) Not quite sweet enough and I overbaked. Would like to try again as actual scones and more sugar.

I used ground turkey. -Pork Tenderloin with Fig Caper relish-Milk Street-DH liked it but I don't eat pork

karenw, how were the Ultimate Bagels? My dad and I made bagels and always said we'd try other recipes. He chose Montreal bagels because that is what the local Jewish deli said they made.

Erin-The KAF ultimate bagel is not Montreal style; they are New York Style which is what I usually make. I thought they were very good and worth repeating. I added a bit of finely chopped fresh rosemary to the dough and topped them with Asiago cheese, but the ones I kept plain were also quite tasty. Don't know if they are the "ultimate" ones out there but I will make them again. If you are interested in other good bagel recipes, my favorites include any of Peter Reinhert's, Claire Saffitz, and Zoe Nathan.
