WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP KITCHEN SINK (AND ESPECIALLY GARBAGE DISPOSAL) SMELLING NEUTRAL OR NICE?
Lately, I think my sink or garbage disposal is giving off putrid odors. Short of buying those little balls to put in disposal, what other things might help me? I have tried apple cider vinegar and baking soda, my usual for sweetening up kitchen drains, but those are failing me.
Anyone have ideas? I have not searched the internet yet. If I turn up anything, when given time to search, I'll post back. Meantime: anybody know what to do? THANKS

Once every week or two, I use some kind of soap or antibacterial, wear gloves, and scrub the rim of the drain, the inside of the drain, the rubber gaskets--sticking my hands in to rub top and underneath. I also try to scrub out the walls of the drain. If I am using antibacterial stuff, I let it sit at least 10 minutes. Run the disposal regularly. If I use lemon, I use a very small amount (we have septic) to grind in the drain/blades. You can also use ice cubes to "wash" the disposal blades.

Thank you so much, Wallycat. So, I am not alone about being a bit picky about these things. Nice to hear!! (OMG, I AM NORMAL??) I just got off phone with old friend who mentioned the ice cubes for cleaning the blades in disposal. I will try that. Wondered if: why couldn't we put PineSol or lemon juice in water...in ice cube tray and use THOSE for added smell goodness. Just a thought. You mention antibacterial. You might mean stuff I have used, the normal ...can't think of names right now. The stuff I often clean counters with? Gone brain dead. Oh well. You mention lemon...do you mean put lemon and it's peel in and grind? I can't wait for my clean pipes!!! OH btw: my friend said that her late husband mentioned to her at one time: IN SINK ITSELF - u-shaped trap is there to keep odors from backing up into sink...so slowly, very slowly, trickle some water into the tap, just enough to sit in that trap and block air. It's an idea. (He was Jack of all trades...no telling how he got the idea, but sounds easy if it works. AM I SO WRONG? I just want my kitchen to smell FRESH. LOL) Never had these issue come up in my last house of my 25 years or more. Thanks again, Wallycat, my dear!!
