RECIPE KEEPER (WINDOWS) If you have been searching for a good, free recipe grabber or recipe management tool (I guess you could say), I've found a really nice one...totally free...called Recipe Keeper. I've been using it, testing it out and I think several of you might like it. I believe you get it from MS store...or maybe just go online, search for it. Maybe both ways works. It lets you choose several methods for obtaining recipes you want to keep in it or download or share, etc. I'm going from memory: when I press New, it brings up a list...I am to select one of the items. One is, do I want it to SEARCH for a recipe for it to grab? Let's say, I type in Artichoke Dip...it will go searching and I will select the recipe I want and it will fill in all the fields (over to the right sits its window where all the data for the recipe goes. Even grabs photo! OR, I can paste in an URL and it will go grab whatever I point it to there, at that webpage, OR, I can make it manually insert data into it's recipe window to the right. OR, I can point it to some file in my own computer folder and it will convert that photo (or text? I've forgotten) into its recipe window. OR, it will take a recipe from a PDF, it says. Haven't done that yet. And it stores them online or you can download, mail (right from inside the program), or send a link to someone (so you can either send a link OR the entire recipe). Anyway, there are other things to learn about it that I haven't looked into yet I suppose. It's really a neat tool and....it's so free!! I don't know if this is a new program or ? It's totally new to me and I don't know of any of my MC or LC or Copy-Me-That buddies who use it. Must be new.

Thanks for this information. I have used Living Cookbook for years. Then a much needed replacement of my computer took place this month. It was then that I found out that Radium Technologies went out of business and left no way to update that program. I have been searching for something to use in its place - grab my recipes from my old computer that is on remote before it is too late. I am hopeful.

Keba - Yes, I hear ya. I have always used Mastercook, but for kicks I bought Living Cookbook back when it was alive. Bought the second version of it, too. It had some cool features but had one big problem: if one glitch by user or ?, the whole system broke. All gone. Lost. Friends and I made that info clear to the owner. Never heard back. It just DIED. I don't know why or if it had anything to do with him finding out there was a problem. Everything just stopped. He disappeared. No response when folks wrote to him. Just gone. PEOPLE WERE NOT HAPPY! You could not upgrade; could not even MOVE to a different computer. (The original deal was: you had to buy new copy for any computer you wanted to add it to.) I have a friend who makes a software that can convert the LC format to other kinds of formats, so all is not lost. And Pam at Mastercook, I believe, has helped folks get their recipes over into MC. Lots of folks are raving about Copy Me That. I can't remember if it costs or not. Mastercook is coming out with a 2022 version this month, last I heard. Will cost quite a bit, as the costs to make to make are huge (and most of the paid for kinds have gone out of biz or are priced thru the roof). To date, I have hundreds of 'cookbooks' in my Mastercook. Let me know if I can be off assist. Good luck. Thanks for this information. I have used Living Cookbook for years. Thanks Catbatty, To have lost all your recipes had to have been heart breaking. I've started investigating Recipe Keeper and Copy Me That. I feel spoiled by Living Cookbook because it seemed so easy and made a nice presentation of the recipe. What I have now is my recipe collection on a site called Home Cookin, but I'm not convinced that it is the best way to go. I made a quick choice as it was the first one I found where my computer expert (son) was able to just copy all the recipes into the program before the change over was made in case the remote computer failed. I did the free trial and chose to keep it while I took the time to make a more thoughtful choice.
It looks like Recipe Keeper offers a free trial period. Copy Me That is totally free if I understand correctly -although something that is given freely can also be taken away, maybe. I've also briefly looked at Master Cook, but it looks as though it has more than I need.
Thanks again, I now have direction to go research.

Another program--not recipe program---I adore it and use it daily is: TextAloud. It's been years. As I recall, I paid full price. It's on sale at Bits Du Jour until midnight tonight (I think) and is under $20 (I think).
I have been having so much fun today with it. It's stupid probably, but I've been having it read to me from a cookbook I just discovered and copied some from it's ebook into Text Aloud
-- book name is - FRENCH FOOD AT HOME by Laura Calder!! WOW. I am so impressed by her tone and her writing. Feels like a friend telling me.
Laura has other books and a webpage, too. I think I will be a lifetime follower. (I'll ignore the parts of her books that feature animal/sea/fowl cuts.)
SO, Text Aloud is worth EVERY DIME!!!! I don't own that biz and I get nothing at all for telling, I just love it and want all my friends to at least hear about it. (It not only talks..but it also stores without saving...anything you want it to hold for you...anything you copy or cut....whatever you tell it to...and keeps in a list at the left of the screen (or wherever)...you can leave em there OR save them, etc.) I use it CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY, CONSTANTLY!!!
So there...two birds with one stone. Author/book/software that I am in love with!!! (Anybody else have any loves of software or authors or books?) I am addicted to cookbooks/ok books, too/and many different PC softwares. (You probably already know this. LOL)

Well, yesterday I broke down and bought the upcoming release of Mastercook 2022. (Maybe it's called Mastercook 22?) Dunno. (Will be 'out' end of March.) It's fairly expensive these days (I bought on sale.) As always, I'm excited to see the newest features. One thing will be that Fonts can be made larger (these eyes need LARGE FONTS)...and recipes will show date entered/modified. And color schemes...several to choose from. I own THOUSANDS of 'cookbooks' already in Mastercook and knowing me, I will be making more of them...so I don't think any other program can do what I need to store and manage them. (Not that there are many recipe management systems (to buy) in biz anymore because the cost to make and update these sophisticated programs is huge huge huge and the profits are not.)
Not sure I mentioned anywhere: if any of you have 'cookbooks' or recipes that you need to change to another format, I have a friend who has made a free program that can convert many types of formats to a different format. SO, let me know what you have that you want changed and I will see what can be done with them (for free, of course). I know that Paprika, for instance, can be converted to some other formats. (And, of course, Living Cookbook can be converted so that you are not locked in with LC if you have some other program you want to moved them into.)

I just found a site called “Get Morsel” (getmorsel.com) to build a shareable cookbook with my mom and siblings. Has been great so far for deciding to make one of my mom’s recipes while in the grocery store.

Mastercook (newest version) is currently offering 40 percent off and way it reads to me is: that's for TWO copies of it. So, I think that is $105 for two (and both include a 1-year online account). That deal is for the CURRENT and LATEST version: Mastercook22 and it is offered as a download. Here is info about MC22 and a video: support.mastercook.com/hc/en-us/articles/5259822530068(I think you can still pick up way older version for free: MC14...but that might be closed now, not sure.) I don't mean to advertise for them, but I do love MC22 a whole bunch!! I have hundreds/thousands of recipes saved in mine. I also use it for other things besides recipes. I hope nobody minds when I tell the latest about it. It's been my hobby for several decades and I get so excited and would love for everybody to have it. Call me crazy. I did not create this group to push Mastercook, please know that. I am always happy to talk recipe software -- ANY BRAND. But I do have my bias, as you can see.

I'm a former MasterCook addict, but 5 years ago I switched over to Plan to Eat and have never looked back. I started using MC in the early 1990s and had a few thousand recipes in it. I started out using it for my personal recipes, but in 2003 I became a personal chef and used it for both personal and business recipes, menus, shopping lists. I switched to Plan to Eat because I needed better support for using my recipe software on multiple devices and at the time, the MasterCook support in that area was sorely lacking. It took a while to import all of my MC recipes into PTE, but I did it in a way that was not overwhelming. For a short time, I used both programs and every time I used a recipe, I moved it from MC to PTE. It also gave me the opportunity to review the thousands of recipes in MC and ditch the ones that no longer appealed to me. Plan to Eat is web-based. www.plantoeat.com. The regular price is $40/yr, but every year they do a Black Friday 50% off sale. They have a fully functional trial version. It used to be 30 days, I'm not sure if it still is. The support team is very responsive. I do most of my recipe and shopping list management on my MacBook, but I also do some on my iPad and iPhone. Printed shopping lists are a thing of the past. I shop off the shopping list on my phone. If I am traveling without my laptop, I can access everything on my iPad or phone. You can share recipes with friends who have PTE.

Patti, I'll go check it out. I love to be in the know about all of them and their advantages and disadvantages. I am biased, of course, about Mastercook (especially in these later years), but I love finding good ones that will work for people with varying needs and systems that require non-pc users to find alternatives. Mastercook: I started when it was at version 2 (or 3??) back in 1996. I think I've owned and used every version since. They are now up to version 22. The newer inventions that have come along have called for lots of changes. I know that lots of cooking schools and pros are now using Mastercook for many of the reasons you mentioned. Myself, I don't yet use all the features...like: I don't take my cell phone shopping, etc.., but I know others who do. Most all the other softwares have either gone out of biz OR have yearly fees and big $$. Mastercook is expensive now. It's ONLINE service (you get a year for free with this latest 2-fer deal) has huge huge operating costs (so the owner tells me). All around, their costs have gone up, hence the higher prices. On the other hand, one thing I love about MC is that all the versions can still be used. And the support staff is SUPERB. I'm so happy someone else is addicted to the same stuff as me!!! Let's hear it -- anyone else interested in SOMEHOW capturing and saving recipes? (We are INUNDATED--happily--with recipes from EVERYWHERE these days. It's a matter of corralling them.) BTW: speaking of capturing recipes...I still use Mastercook's grabber, but I also use CopyMeThat, just for variety. I put all captures then into my Mastercook 22. (One of the reasons I adore the newest MC is: enlargement of fonts. Oh boy, I can SEE my recipes better than ever when I am editing them. I think I can get the font up to 16 while in edit mode. It's wonderful.) I'm off to see this program that Patti has mentioned about. FUN FUN FUN!!! Catbatty s

I make 'cookbooks' for French Lessons, 'cookbooks' for my ART stuff, etc. I use daily!!! I am crazy, bonkers for Mastercook and version 22 is after over 20 years of user inputs and corrections and wants and etc. IT IS GREAT. (Windows only I am sad to say.) This is a very good deal, Martha. (I suppose, but I'm not sure, one could go get the free MC14 they have been offering and THEN upgrade at this sale price. The retail price normally for newest version of MC have been...rather astronomical, if you ask me (over $100, But owner tells me that his costs are huge and huger now, too...and his online storage service thingy is thru the roof for him. He has put huge monies into buying and modernizing Mastercook. SO anyway, this price is phenom!!) Catbatty
