Since it’s just DH and me I’m making the stovetop version of French Wine and Mustard Chicken. I would love to make it in the crockpot but I am not a fan of chicken cooked in one. It changes the texture and gives me a weird mouth feel. For dessert I’ll probably make French Apple Cake. Not sure if I’ll make an appetizer. Would love to hear what you’re all doing. www.halfbakedharvest.com/slow-cooker-french-wine-and-mustard-chicken/

I'm not making anything interesting but giving you a bump.
we are most likely traveling on turkey day, a very long taxing day. no guests so will make a turkey roast the next day, one of the ones that go direct to oven without defrost. that plus roasted sweet potatoes, green salad and pumpkin pie. I'm not a fan of most" regulars" like gravy or dressing.
french apple cake sounds lovely. I would like to make the Ina french apple tart but wont have a chance to shop before .

My assignment is apps and a brussels sprout side dish.
For apps I am making chicken, apple, and cheese empanadas (I recently took an empanada class at the King Arthur baking school. I'm using the dough recipe we used in the class, and the filling from the KA web site), deviled eggs, and lupini bean ceviche (from Joe Yonan's Cool Beans).
I've always done cooked b sprouts, but this year I am making a shredded b sprouts salad with apple, pecans, and maybe some bacon. I

It's just DH and I as well this year (for the 1st time ever!!). We never do turkey or a traditional Thanksgiving anyway so I will be making a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean dinner with a grilled Mahi with Zhoug, mujaddara, roasted butternut squash and chickpea medley with tahini sauce, and Turkish roasted vegetables with a cilantro yogurt. Dessert (mostly for DH) is homemade halvah and Greek galaktoboureko. (I just want cookies and ice cream!!! And I just made some yummy chocolate biscotti so I am good!)

We scored Mary's free range turkey thighs at the co-op yesterday so I will be making that tomorrow; mashed potatoes with wild mushroom gravy and green beans. For T-day, I will grill copper river salmon. Sides TBD.
I wish I could get some of Karen's dessert...drool.

It's the two of us this year, and I haven't been motivated to do a lot of holiday meal planning, which in past years I enjoyed. We decided to make some favorite appetizers as our meal and give thanks. The preliminary list is: Texas caviar (black-eyed pea and avocado dish), jalapeño poppers, sausage meatballs in marinara, pickled cold mushrooms, and a salad with endive, blue cheese, and walnuts. A wonky assortment of things we like. Karen's meal plan sounds wonderful, and I would love to crash that party.
Dessert - probably the ice cream and cookies route for us, too. I made a pear cake with brown butter icing yesterday, and that may have holiday'ed out my sweet tooth for now. Thanks for the link for the French apple cake. I'll file that away for another baking day.

Ive been making an apple Sharlotka for myself lately that has no butter and only a tiny bit of sugar. its my standby dessert while doing weight watchers. the french apple cake sounds like a way more decadent version of it. i will think about it if I have time to get some apples. thanks.

Thanks for the compliments all! And everyone is welcome but my one disclaimer is that many of these dishes are being made for the 1st time so no guarantees. Today I made the sugar syrup and custard filling for the galaktoboureko. I will assemble and bake it on Wednesday but it seemed to turn out as it was described so crossing fingers it all works! I am making some deep dish pizza for Wednesday night so if Thursday's meal is a flop, there is always leftover pizza!! But I think it will be good! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Headed to my aunt and uncle's and I will make a pecan pie tomorrow morning. They make a traditional meal.
Made a recipe of this and a vegan version to give to colleagues: Easy Sausage Meatball Soup. I make it pizza soup by adding veggies--this time peppers and mushrooms in with the onions. Serving suggestion: top with cheese (Parm or mozz) and eat with garlic bread.
Made a Dutch apple pie for last weekend's Friendsgiving. Completely make-ahead: crust, streusel, and filling all cooked separately and then combined and baked for only 10 minutes. Interesting method, good results.
I hope you all enjoy your meals!

I changed our meal to be Jalisco style lamb. This is a first attempt but it is just the two of us. On a reflective note, I am sad that I just read about National Day of Mourning vs. Thanksgiving. Hit me hard. Not to dampen festivities and family gatherings but it is a reminder.....

The recipe was just so-so (too spicy for DH). It is Jalisco style birria and I used this recipe (I think lamb makes it Jalisco-style otherwise usually goat or beef, but I could be wrong): patijinich.com/jalisco-style-birria/I lover her PBS programs and thought this recipe looked interesting enough. I used the leftovers (corn tortillas and the meat) and added yogurt (ran out of sour cream) to tamp down the heat for DH. Made "open" enchiladas/mexican "lasagna" of sorts. That added salsa and sharp cheddar which made it quite yummy.

Curiosity !!! Happy Thanksgiving to you. I haven't heard of those other varieties and its possible they're similar to this, which is an apple pie without the traditional pie crust. Peeled and sliced apples are tossed with some sugar and cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice and then topped with a flour/butter/sugar/egg batter and baked. I'm not sure why it is called this, but I got the recipe from my mom and not sure where she got it originally. Also, funny story: I make all the pies but I don't really like pie!

Curiosity !!! Happy Thanksgiving to you. I don't know anything about French Apple Pie from Normandy, Portuguese Apple Pie Or Swedish Apple Pie but the recipe I've linked to below is very similar to the French Apple Pie I grew up with - it was all about the streusel topping which I loved. www.thespruceeats.com/french-apple-pie-recipe-483222
