I'm trying to reign in my food costs a bit by really focusing on what I have on hand, and using up some odds and ends etc. And trying to not go into TJ's and WF as often. : ) And get back to the habit (consistency is the key) to menu planning since that not only saves time, but money too. Anyone want to join in, or have some food items that have been languishing too long in fridge or pantry and you would like to use up? Maybe that bag of farro that you never used, those things in the back of the freezer that you have no idea what it is. I'm not trying to use up everything I have, or just use what I have. And when I do go shopping, I want to stick to mainly fruits and veggies, greek yogurt, and other whole foods. And at the same time, some foodie goals for this year is to be even better on limiting or simply not buying things I don't need to eat --- crackers, chocolate (looking at you Hersheys kisses). Basically keep on eating as much "clean foods as possible -- fruits. veggies. legumes. whole grains, etc. And at the same time, I would like to add some quick meals to the freezer, like make some soup, chili etc. And eat more fish. And really watch added sugar (ah, that chocolate once again). So today, oatmeal for breakfast, with some frozen cherries. I was going to buy some fruit but thought I should use up the frozen cherries I have on hand. Varaile - thanks for joining in and love reading your mail plan. I will certainly be checking out that warm spinach salad recipe. paul10 -- sorry no ideas off hand. I made a favorite black bean quesadillas recipe and tossed some in the freezer for quick meals. Using up some cheese and whole wheat tortillas. Added some roasted veggies to the ones that I had last week. www.budgetbytes.com/hearty-black-bean-quesadillas/It is key for me to have some quick meals on hand --- since soooo less likely to pick up takeout on those nights that I don't want to even think about cooking. This used up some tortellini in the freezer, and some other ingredients I wanted to use. I did add some leftover chicken. I didn't follow completely, and got distracted while cooking --- so glad that it actually turned out. www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/lemon-broccoli-tortellini/From their website.

I needed to use up half a head of cabbage and some bacon so for dinner last night I made fried cabbage and it was delish: cafedelites.com/fried-cabbage/I had some sandwich rolls from Costco in the freezer so I took one out and made “garlic bread.” It was a great meal.

mcgee --- your dinner sounds delicious. I have a busy day on Thursday so might make a salad and a Naan "pizza". So that will use up the bread, some mozz in the freezer etc. I don't know why I bought it but have a box of frozen spinach. I might make a side of rice/spinach/garlic/feta recipe that I saw online. Spaghetti and some sauce in the freezer. Making one of my favorites, Mediterranean Farro Salad with Spiced Chickpeas. This will use up the tahini, plus I can eat this all the time.
