I've been doing lots of cleaning and organizing (you know for the things I haven't done since I've been basically in since 3/18). I have a lot of things from my family (mainly from my mom) that I really like --- some great pottery, wood carved boxes, some contemporary things, some favorite jewelry, some super random little things that have no value but to me etc. They have sentimental value (since I like using/displaying some of my mom's things). And then a few things that I'm fine with keeping that I might not use/display etc ... but I want to keep. But I have a few things that I will never use and has not a great amount of sentimental value so I'm dealing with the what to do with it. I don't have lots of storage space. And don't know anyone that would want it. Anyone dealing with a "what to do with" .... Like this is stored. A bud vase that must be 100 years old.

Lovely items! You are fortunate to have heirlooms. I'll spare you my sob story. So it is great you know what you love and have room for it to enjoy. Can you contact an auction house or see an appraiser and then try to sell the items? Not on your scale of valuable, but I have been thinking of downsizing ever since DH's diagnosis. My items focus on cookbooks and kitchen stuff and I had thoughts of selling or giving them away..even posting it here to see if anyone wanted it and would pay for shipping to take it. Maybe there are other estate sale/valuable type sites where you could list it and people would buy it? Etsy comes to mind. Or if you got an appraisal for it, could you donate it to a charity of your choice and see if they could sell it to get the proceeds... There was a great article in the NYTimes about these situations. Not sure how old the article was but it was comforting to read.

Hi Wallycat,
Thanks for the reply and ideas. Super appreciated. I hope you and your DH are good! Thinking of you. Light bulb moment for me ---- I'm going to continue focusing on looking through the things that I have (and bought over the years) and decide if I want to keep, donate, sell etc. I've been selling some items on Craigslist etc. Those items weren't anything expensive but great to not only get it out of the house, but get a bit of money for it. And I just meet them in front of a coffee place a few blocks away. This week some new ceramic flowerpots, a small Le Creuset baking dish (really I don't every size oval and rectangular, ha), an artificial plant that had to go especially given I'm back into real plants and that one fake, looked well real fake next to my new plants. etc etc.
I'm going to try not to get hung up on the few items from family/friends since that is just a super small amount compared to "my things". My shoes takes up more room than that bud vase. : )
Is there a used book store in your area? They don't pay much, but with your qty, it might be the easiest way for you to pare down. The store near me, pays in store credit or gives less if you want cash. I go for the cash. Or maybe post it on Craigslist etc -- and sell some as a bundle. Or donate to the library and take a tax credit or ....... Would you want to post some kitchen items on Craigslist type places?

I've donated a lot of my books to the library already...but with 800+, it's a work in progress, LOL.
I sold some stuff on Craig's list when we were moving from WI, so that is always a good idea. And there is ebay...
Appreciate your kind words for DH and I...we're hanging in there. I can't believe it's been a year since this fiasco started...and we were doubtful he'd get a year, much less the great "condition" he's in, back to gardening, going to the range, etc....

Wallycat --- So very happy that your DH is back to doing the things he enjoys. Best post I could read! Sending all the best to you both.
I've been posting on Craigslist, Offerup and Letgo. It is funny how some items sell super quick, and then some items have zero, and I mean zero interest.

I mentioned etsy because when I was looking for a specific wine glass shape, a LOT of heirloom type glassware popped up. And some were quite pricey!
Thanks again on the well wishes; we know things can change on a dime but I try to watch and learn from him incase my cancer ever comes back. He's my hero.

This is sure happy news, Wallycat! Wow! I'm so happy for both of you. As for getting rid: what's come over all of us, stuck at home, making changes, wanting less dust collectors and just less STUFF? It's fun! I've been hauling (several trips now) to the Goodwill. FEELS FANTASTIC! And, I do think I like the looks of my house more! I am down to stuff I do love...but some of IT is going, too. TOO MUCH STUFF THAT I LOVE. SO MANY TREASURES. DO NOT NEED SO MANY TREASURES. I am sharing the wealth! It actually feels right and good. I moved things on that I thought I would never part with ever. Things that are not replaceable ever. But so what? I'm freeing up my space! However, I am keeping cookbooks (I got rid of many before our move and now just maybe a hundred real keepers are left), magazines, art books and supplies. And most vases for flowers are staying. BUT, the other stuff, stuff that just sits around because it's pretty or unique or made well... GOING! GONE! Even platters. I love pure white platters of every kind. I have collected many. (And many are GOING. SO WHAT THAT I LOVE THEM? I"LL LET SOMEBODY ELSE LOVE THEM ....and clean and dust them.) hooo haw!!
