I thought that I saw, a month or so ago, that someone on these Boards offered dried sourdough starter to whomever wanted it. If that kind person reads this, could you please pm me???
We moved last December and I tossed my starter, too much to deal with and I hadn't been taking care of it anyway. I thought that I would get some from my Mom (hers is 40+ years old), but kept forgetting to and now we're not traveling... 🙄

Thanks so much, Patti. I was trying to make my own starter but both batches never did ferment, they just got yucky... 🙄

Vicci, I just put it out in the mailbox. It should be there in a few days! I'm happy to share.

Were either of you baking with sourdough back on CLBB? I shared starter then and have been again recently. It has been one of the brighter notes. I keep some starter dried for backup and sharing, so if another need arises I can also share somme.

Beth, I just started baking with sourdough at the beginning of this year. I started sharing my starter in February and have been drying and mailing starter all over the country in the past few months. It started life in NH, and is now in a multiple cities in TX, MA, and CA, and also in PA, GA, and OR. Probably some others too that I cannot remember. I agree with you that working with it and sharing it is one of the brighter notes.

Beth I was a recipient of your Starter...I really appreciated the two page sheet of encouragement and instruction as well as a couple of recipes...and I really enjoyed working/experimenting with it... Unfortunately things got hectic a few years ago and I neglected it too much...but it was fun while I used it... Thank you...

Emptynest, you are welcome and can always have some more if you want to try again. I have started drying it differently and I think it is easier on my end and the user's. It is more granular rather than the chunks that took so long to fully soften. I learned that from some other bakers and it is my go to method now. Mails easier too.
PattiA, your timing for starting was good. Have you noticed the flavor evolving? I remember being told or reading that the starter matures and changes flavor especially in the first month or few months but even over the first year. It is a bit subtle, but it is there. Back in the CLBB days I sent mine all over the country too -- some outside the country. Not as many recently. I seem to be around more people determined to start their own, and that's god too.
