I need to get rid of these grey.s I'm at the point that it is thoroughly bugging me. I do color my hair but I've always gone to a salon. I have medium brown hair, coarse, lots of grey. It's been so many weeks I think I need a bucket full. I've used Clairol Root Touch Up for years between appointments but nothing beyond that.
So, any tips. Any favorite brands? I did some searches on line about best at home hair color and their are so many choices. And picking a color -- not so simple. Anyone order from Madison & Reed?
My roots thank you.

There's a website (Hotandflashy) and she talks a ton about skin care/aging but did mention a hair color she buys and likes. I've gone gray from the beginning that it started. Super sensitive skin and just worried what it would do to my scalp. Sigh. I'd rather have gray hair than no hair. If I go to that site again and find out what she used I'll post back. Hope you get some replies.
Update:
and she mentioned esalon. Also had a promo code for it. I have no idea if it is any good.

I've colored my own hair for years until I moved and found a woman who would color and cut mine for $50. Fast forward 4 years, now e moved again and I am back to self-coloring.
There are tons of youtube videos about it. From my personal experience, however, I would recommend using an old glass measuring cup (the handle makes for easy holding) and color brush with a row of flat bristles and a long handle (have seen them on Amazon, but I bought mine at Sally Beauty Supply) instead of using the applicator bottle. You can get such better control over the product. Keep a few old towels nearby, and hydrogen peroxide helps to remove stains on your skin. I find that I have to retouch my roots every 2 weeks (a good amount of grey) but I can go an average of 5-6 weeks between full-head colorings.
I use Naturtint, and buy it by the case at Amazon. Costs about $14/box.
Hope that helps!

Don't hate me but this is one problem I don't have .... inherited that from my dad's side of the family who grayed very late. As a matter of fact my dad's sister died in her 80's with jet black hair and never colored it a day in her life. I am 55 y.o. and have a few stray grays but that is about it. Now the problem I do have is I usually keep it very short as I swim daily and have to shove it into a swim cap. Not swimming now obviously, but getting a bit shaggy!

I don't remember my dad not being gray and I was gifted with my first gray hairs while still in high school. Way back then I decided to embrace it. My unruly short hair is quite shaggy.

I still have some dark hair. My oncologist is genetically blessed, as is her mother, with dark hair---she's older than me!

Typically I do the Clairol Root Touch between getting my hair colored (I have lots of grey and it shows super fast). But since its been many weeks ..... I'm just going to go for it and color it. When I look at the color choices, it makes me think, what color? Like you can tell from a box, some of the names are like picking out a nail polish .... Medium brown cinnamon brown truffle. Yada yada.
Thanks everyone! Now to decide what brand. No surprise many people are coloring their hair --- hope it is not as hard to find my color as it is getting flour or TP.

I prefer using my salon but am set up to do this at home. I have a color I mix up but I'm not experienced enough to recommend anything except.... go lighter than you think you need. I'm a medium brown color and I mix together a brown and blond shade and it turns out natural looking.
"not dark enough" is WAY better than the shoe polish look. I only do roots, my regular color is too dark if its applied to the whole length of hair. I clip it into sections, use a brush to do roots. I have DH help me with the back. HTH.

Thx Traildoggie and wallycat. One thing I'm worried about is missing parts and and then realize, guess I didn't do that section. Or say the roots (that's where most of grey) covers differently than the rest. Let the fun begin!
