Mid-January I have to go to another company potluck and I need your help. I signed up to bring a salad but I think there are still openings for appetizers too. It needs to be very transportable as it's in our San Francisco office. I'll be driving about a half hour in the early morning to go to the Amtrak station. Amtrak will take me to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) which I'll take to San Francisco. Then I'll walk about 10 blocks to the office. All in all it will take me about 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get there. I HATE driving to San Francisco so this is the best way for me. Any suggestions on a dish that will transport well and won't go bad? There is no theme to this party - it's just bring whatever you want. THANKS!!

how about some sort of homemade bread, a sturdy quick bread or a hearty yeast bread.

how about some sort of homemade bread, a sturdy quick bread or a hearty yeast bread. That’s a great idea but bread is already taken. Last I looked available categories are main course (3 slots available) appetizer (2 slots available) or side dish (3 slots available) . Bread has its own category and two people have it covered. Dessert is covered too or else I’d take my churro cheesecake since it was such a hit. So far only one has signed up for the main and I she'll be bringing a ham or roast pork. I actually thought about Italian Beef since I could probably freeze it in a flavor seal bag but then I’d need to take a crockpot and that ain’t gonna happen.

If you did a cheesecake previously, you must have a way to keep something cool as you commute in? An ice pack in the bag maybe? Or a fridge you can use once you get there? Some appetizer suggestions: savory pinwheel rolls, a spread with crackers or bagel chips (I'm bringing this to a NYE potluck Easy Scallion-Salmon Dip ), apples or other fresh fruit with a fruit dip is always a hit at our office potlucks and you can slice the apples once you arrive, smoked fish with crackers.,...that's all that comes to mind right now.

Scrolling through my eyes caught the antipasto picks. The ingredients should hold up nicely for a couple of hours and all can be assembled the night before. www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a44684/antipasto-picks-recipe/I've served a similar appetizer that's been highly appreciated. Main difference mine included salami.

Since side and main dishes are open, how about a whole grain or bean salad? It could be something like tabouli or quinoa tabouli or a grain/vegetable/bean salad. I brought this to a family gathering recently and it was a big hit. iowagirleats.com/2017/06/19/italian-chickpea-salad/

One of the most popular apps we've done lately (and that I'm doing tomorrow evening, actually) is toasted rounds of baguette, topped with a thin slice of smoked salmon, a dollop of crème fraiche, and then a small dab of (black or red lumpfish) caviar. Looks elegant and tastes much more than the sum of its parts. And would be easy to transport and assemble there. Toast the baguette slices and bring in a bag. Bring package of smoked salmon, tub of crème fraiche, and small jar of caviar in a cooler bag, with a small spoon and a serving tray. Then just assemble on site.

Thanks everyone. I have narrowed it down to one of the following: Ramen Noodle Salad- barefeetinthekitchen.com/ramen-noodle-salad/or Blue Cheese and Spinach Salad www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/rachael-ray/blue-cheese-and-walnut-salad-with-maple-dressing-recipe-1913741 - remember this from the old CLBB? I think Bob posted it. I've always loved it but haven't made it in ages. or Italian Chickpea Salad that Patti posted: iowagirleats.com/2017/06/19/italian-chickpea-salad/ I will say this though about "Iowa Girl Eats" blog - I HATE it. Waayyyy too many pop-ups and advertisements. Has to be one of the worst I've ever seen. Too bad cuz I'm an Iowa girl myself but other than this recipe, I don't think I'll be going back to it again. @gilgamesh - those toasts sound wonderful but maybe too expensive for such a large group but I might give it a try for DH and me tomorrow night. Anyways, if anyone wants to vote on my three selections, feel free to do so .
